I dunno if purge reads these comments but I kinda think offlane nyx is just better. Mana boot Dagon Aghs. Can also go Aether lens or kaya in there somewhere and the greaves. I transition from an assassin to a front line. Oneshot any squishy and burrow in their face.
I don't think that he is, personally. Viper's strengths is that he's got pretty good damage and that not even BKB can really mess him up. Good wave clear and naturally resistant to magic damage output. He also transitions really well into the midgame. Nyx doesn't have these strengths. Mind Flare is only particularly strong against INT heroes, so that varies in impact. He's got a stun, so in some cases he survives better than Viper. But Nyx's initiation hinges on the enemy not buying sentries for Vendetta (limiting it to lower MMR games) or him buying Blink. Which is great, but there are better initiators that aren't as squishy. Burrow is cool, and gives damage reduction, but you can't move and dust/sentries will just murder you. Nyx is a great roamer and capable of burst, but he absolutely falls off and his wave clear isn't great. Burrow/Vendetta are easy to counter. BKB neuters both Impale and Mind Flare (and negates Carapace stun, which is doubly punishing if you go shard for Burrow). Viper has his weaknesses too, of course. Very low movement speed with no mobility means he's easy to pin down and murder (as Purge said on both of his Viper games recently) and he's not as high impact as some other offlanes can be (even if Viper Strike is pretty strong). They fill completely different roles and accomplish different things.
I love that Purge and Day 9 still play together after all these years.

I think if I couldn't get BoTs on Viper cause the game was hard, I'd just go mek and greaves. Treads just feel terrible
