    Everyone commenting here about limiting 'this and that' is EXACTLY how to exclude people from the competition world. Everyone wants to create this handicap for better shooters. Guess what? None of the other shooters are going to beat the top 5, 10, etc anyway. Get over it.
    Limits on gun, ammo, etc. further pigeon hole shooters who are interested. Solution? No limits and no divisions, only carry/shoot what you bring. 24 lb rifle, go ahead. 12 lbs rifle, go ahead. 223, sure. 300 WM, why not?
    NRL Hunter is already dead before the end of the first season anyway. Numbers show that...
    And btw, half this stuff won't work at a hunter match... Bungee bag... Come on.

    Just went to an NRL hunter match. I carry an alps bino harness with Sig kilo 3000s that aren’t clipped in to the harness so I can carry them with the cover fixed then uncover to pull them out and range, then set to side so they aren’t in my way shooting prone. I keep a grease pen and a normal pen on the side of the bino harness. Grease pen for writing on my arm band. I then have my kestrel around my neck and I’ll take wind readings periodically to get rough wind speeds. I’ll also shoot then adjust the wind speed in the kestrel after the stage based on what I see when shooting to have info for the next stage. In my pack I carry my tripod with a plate, schemdium game changer, wiebad mini range cube, Ammo, spare mag, rags, spare writing utensils, lens cleaners, and tools. Also water and food for the day. This last match I mostly only used my tripod and schmedium game changer for shooting. I used my wiebad bag once as a rear support. I didn’t see the need for another bag only a more sturdy tripod and/or a triple pull ckye pod

    I agree with other commenters that more needs to be done to address equipment, specifically the rifle. I think there needs to be a maximum weight based on the caliber choice, larger calibers can have more weight. I don't think 6.5 CM should be banned as it is a legit hunting cartridge, but I think it should be the minimum caliber. Max rifle weight at this caliber should be 10-12 lbs as fired (optic, bipod, attachments, etc, no magazine). Only one support item should be allowed per stage (bipod, pack, tripod, sling, bag etc). I've used all these things in various hunting situations, but generally only 1 at a time. I think all matches should have at least 1 stage that is sling-only for support.
    If you want to make it ultra-realistic, wait until the shooter has to pee or poop and then start the stage, preferably with wet boots.

    • @WyitAlan
      @WyitAlan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Curious as to your reasoning on 6.5cm being the minimum allowed caliber. 243 has filled many a freezer over the years, mine included, and that is a 6mm. I've seen everything frome rabbits to elk taken with said cartridge and have personally put several old muley bucks in the freezer with it.

    • @vettepilot427
      @vettepilot427 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@WyitAlan The problem with 6mm/.243 is not with legitimacy as a hunting round (it's proven as you point out) but the fact that if you allow it, you have to allow the 6mm benchrest cartridges that dominate PRS (6mm BR, BRA, XC, Dasher, etc). I'd even be open to restricting NRL Hunter to 7mm and/or 150 gr bullet weight minimum for this reason. The last PRS match that I shot, the highest that a Tactical (.308 Win) competitor finished was 29th. That was a Pro shooter with a full competition gun that barely broke the top 30.
      With this Hunter series, if you want to grow the class and make it interesting and relevant, I think it's important to keep out the benchrest cartridges. Make recoil management and improvised, minimally supported positions the focus of the contest. If you wanted to REALLY level the field, approach the ammo manufacturers and see if they would offer a sealed box factory loading that was required for the match. No hand loads.

    I'd like to see an match or exercise with real world hunting rifles (cartridges more powerful than 6.5 Needmoore) that are a major power factor. An stock rifle competition would be interesting Also carrying a sandbag rest isn't realistic. A tripod could be carried but that's borderline unrealistic hunting. This is an fascinating exercise and far far more useful and of interest than PRS stages and flat ranges. The terrain makes it realistic and worthwhile but it needs an unsupported positional shooting stage incorporated into it.

      @natesavage-gcsports9464 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Travis Fox Tripods have come so far in the last few years, you don't have to carry a PRS tripod to shoot off of for hunting. Leupold Makes a fantastic tripod that is very light weight and small enough to fit in most packs yet ridged enough to put a 13 LB gun on and shoot off of.

    • @aaronwilcox6417
      @aaronwilcox6417 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Travis Fox That depends on location location location. You ain't hoofing around half that junk or an all up 10 pound rifle in backcountry areas like that around the North Cascades, or something like Central Idaho wilderness. That doesn't happen if your on foot and self propelled.
      You can hunt coyotes and agriculture deer in front country areas but size, weight, efficiency need to come together in rugged areas. Your precision skill exercises in these hunter type matches have definite benefits and it's why I find it at least interesting. Still I see in all these firearm games certain crutches that eliminate the human equation. There's an sweet spot where the skill, equipment, and capability component come together for that efficiency.

      With 40gn and 55gn projectile it would not be a great choice. With an 8 twist you can run 75s and 80s and it would be pretty good, But most matches have velocity cap that would limit the capabilities of even those lighter bullets.
      A seven twist would be best running 88s, 90s and 95s.
      Take a look at 22 creedmoor with a 1 in 7 twist. The performance is excellent the recoil is low, But the barrel life will be shorter.
