The fact that the gang at Genesis Apologetics can say with a straight face that it's weird that people can put so much faith into something they can't test with direct observation, without the slightest hint of irony or self-awareness...

This science should not be trusted because it's based on assumptions that may not be entirely justified if you believe our charitably deemed _inaccurate_ descriptions and anecdotes, and ignore the countless experiments testing and validating them -- but the bible, even if with or without active testing it appears to contradict reality and itself, is definitely the one true word of the one true god that is all 100% completely true and our personal minority interpretation the only correct one. Amazing.

er, that's not exactly how it works. projection is a psychological defense mechanism that the brain manufactures to PROTECT an underlying issue that needs to be dealt with. in this case, it is likely formed as a result OF cognitive dissonance, which can easily be caused when when what you were taught vastly disagrees with the reality you are actually experiencing. humans have a vast ability to compartmentalize... but constantly doing so can actually wear your brain out. It really IS, isn't it? I mean, these reality-deniers are so quick to pretend that science- and all its fruits- are bullshit, yet they will daily, revel in the joy of the products of modern science. For example, I'm a chemist. If the stuff I was taught in university was indeed bullshit, I'd have discovered this as soon as I graduated and started working (outside the university). So too would other people. We'd all find that in the real world, things work completely differently to the crap they teach in school/ university. However, to my knowledge, this has NEVER happened. In point of fact, it's never happened for ANY subject taught at (real) universities (trump university doesn't count, since it was never accredited).
So if the stuff we're taught is demonstrably revealed, continuously, to be reliable, accurate and objectively, verifiably real, then the opinion of two young people who have a vested interest in throwing shade over this reality, doesn't count for much. It's either deliberate obfuscation, in pursuit of their religious fantasy, or it's Dunning-Kruger-syndrome-meets-asteroid-of-ignorance. In either case, their opinion is worth less than the toilet paper I wipe it off with!!

And it ignores the simple fact that humans always live close to a water source, so most cultures will have seen a couple of floods, regardless if they are inlands, on the coast or on islands.
They now started doing the same thing with dragons (to "support" the idea that dinosaurs lived alongside humans (withoutg eradicating us with their big scary teeth... uhh yeah?)) again totally ignoring the multitude of DIFFERENT stories about dragons that these various cultures posit.

This boggles my mind. I understand that many christians do believe that so called white lies are fine and that basically everything that shields anyone from reality and lets someone have a (harmful) placebo is fine and encouraged even, so that would include lying to entire societies about what god wants them to do if group coherence benefits in the short term (for the lasting of the current generation, disregarding the immense costs to future generations and humanity as a whole).
It always seems selfish to me, as if they don't want to put in the effort to learn about and deal with reality and to push problems (with inevitable interest) to the next generations, just so they can pretend everything is honky dory and they don't have to change or give up anything.
I think that this selfish short term thinking is protected because it's so widely shared among theist communities, but I cannot for the life of me imagine how they can possibly square that with a loving god.
If it's just the biblical god, I can see why a narcissist doesn't give a shit how badly we treat each other as long as people are encouraged to worship him and that's exactly what's happening, so that makes sense, but christians say they believe in a loving god and that doesn't align with their behaviour at all.
Surely, many preachers are just lying sociopaths and narcissists, but most christians are definitely none of those things, yet many fully support the behaviour and encourage it. Mostly evangelicals and other fundamentalists, but still.

Hey Aron, I love your videos, but here I have an issue. When they speak about the decay rate could have alternated in the past. Here I am missing the heat problem in your example. When the earth is less than 10.000 years old, you can calculate the needed decay rate in the past. By doing it, you will get the earth like a hot lava melting pot. Live on this lava ball would not have been possible. So even if the decay rate changed, it could not confirm the young earth. It falsifies it again. I found it a pity, that you did not mention it at all ;)...
thx for your content, I like what you do and have learned many things from you in the past and please continue what your doing, it is soo important in this world today, to spread the scientific thinking!

But I did not mention it here, because they didn’t specifically imply that 4 billion years worth had to occur in the last 10 ka (like some YECs). Sure, that’s where their question would lead if pressed but it wasn’t in their video. They only ask vaguely “what if it differed enough for our dates to be unreliable?”

@@jacksonheathen2092 _"It's always a false 50/50 argument with these people."_
Yep. I made a friend of mine laugh about that when I talked about probability and how people see it when we don't know. Her parents say they're agnostic and she doesn't care for any label; she just doesn't think a god makes sense in a world with no evidence for it and plenty of evidence against one existing that is loving and worth her time. She rather spends her time on living instead of thinking about gods or philosophical questions.
I don't even remember what the conversation started over but I just gave a couple of examples where people just insert a 50/50 chance if they don't know what the probabilities are. "I don't know, it's a coin toss really."
What are the chances I have cancer and I'm not diagnosed and I die tomorrow?
      "I don't know, it's a coin toss really."
What's the odds that pixies fart unicorns that shit creator gods by the dozens.
      "I don't know, it's a coin toss really."
A god already exists or it doesn't. The chance is either 1 or 0 and there's no indication it's 1. Chance for loving god that requires faith and belief that can affect the universe to change outcomes is 0. No loving being would require or encourage faith, but would encourage evidence based reliability instead and would have no requirements for salvation and would advice against worship and would encourage studying the universe to increase the chances for safety and happiness. No god worth our time can exist because the only one that might be possible that might be worth our time would encourage us to not waste it on that god but on ourselves and each other instead.
