New to the channel I currently work for Aviva doing an insurance assessments. if we find vehicles fitted with LED headlights, we remove them as they’re not always legal as evidence this is to ascertain if they are legal and could they have been part of the cause of an accident to hand to the insured party’s insurance coordinator. Also a lot of people don’t realise a lot of cars are not written off for cost of repairs that just is part of it. It’s also hirer vehicles which is the main reason most vehicles get written off with currently got a shortage of approved insurance body shops so the wait to get a slot can cause more time in Hire which can therefore mean it’s more beneficial to write the car off than repair. We would not consider the damage to the rear quarter structural but cosmetic hence it was been written off to a cat in although a lot of assessors would write that after a cat because it could be deemed as potential suspension damage which could cause structural due to the proximity of the wheel arch.
@@wrightfamily4373 some brilliant information here especially on the disappearance of the lights. Also I never thought about availability in repair shops and now you mention it I have seen a shortage in panel beaters etc in the industry just now. Thanks for the great input it's nice to hear it from an assessor 👍🏻👍🏻
Those copart scumbags ripped me off big time, I purchased a 2014 BMW 435D CAT N described as minor cosmetic damage, but after waiting for a while to get the damage repaired we discovered the 6 cylinder was running slightly off. After a bit of investigation I discovered a bent rod. When I went back to copart and complained about undisclosed damage they said it was my tough luck and said I should have checked the car better before bidding (even though we are not allowed to personally inspect vehicles) To repair the engine properly has cost £2500 in parts only.
when using the glue it's best to first clean the panel with brake cleaner then heat the panel up slightly prior to applying the glue then allow to fully cool down. this way it will create a stronger bond. Also depending on the size of the dent you can apply several or even more pullers at the same time and move from one to another this will help pull the dent out evenly and will save time.
Thanks for the tips 👍🏻 I used brake cleaner and cleaned the flue sticks as well. There was definitely a huge improvement in the glue I ordered online but think I bit off way more than I could chew for a complete novice. I'd like to have another go but best I start with dinks in panels than caved in quarter panels 😂
New to the channel and I really enjoyed the video. I’ve been flipping copart cars for a couple years and have had more good cars than bad. I’ve only once had a goodwill payment back from copart, so you’ve done pretty well. As for Autotrader pricing, it’s my understanding that the price you get on the created advert does not take into account the category status. First thing to do before worrying about the panel dents is to get it on a frame and pull that rear quater chassis panel back, that will take nearly all the tension out of the damage 🙂

I have had 3 cats from copart , the one I'm working on at moment was listed as a cat n , where it has structural damage (needed full airbag kit ,dash , and front end, but had the fitch bent in and bottom a pillar)and I got £400 back from them , but need to find a good body and spraypaint shop in motherwell , and some welding to be done
To update on my ongoing complaint they said final offer was the £50 or return the car. Since I'm almost finished it I'll need to accept and be more careful in the future 😅
The autotrader rough price is that with FSH or without? As far as I’m aware 90% of cars from copart don’t come with any service history, the car I got from them had nothing just the owners handbook 😂
Hey thanks for watching !! This one came with the full folder and service book. Think there is only 1 service stamp missing from the book so has good history. Recommended sale price on autotrader never changed when I updated to either full or no history. I've bought a really high end car from them before which hasn't been released on the channel yet and it came with absolutley zero documents. You wonder what the hell they do with them 🤷
I've had two cars from Copart, the first one was a 2011 Megane 1.6 petrol, only 61k. Found the service history in the glove box, which was full and up to date. It had light front-end damage to the bumper. Got a second-hand bumper and fitted it. Cleaned and polished it and sold it for £1800, made £800 profit. Second car was a 2011 fiat 500, turned up with more damage than i could see in the pictures. It had a bad oil leak from the crankshaft seal, ended up replacing it and putting a clutch in it too. Over spent massively and ended up giving it to my mum as she liked it. You win some, you lose some, can't win them all unfortunately 😂 as for the headlights, the Copart staff probably nicked them 😂
I know the megane 1.6 petrol all too well, my friend had one and the timing belt snapped. Myself and Darren rebuilt it with new valves etc and it's currently my daily driver. It's nice to hear your experiences and agree you win some you lose some.
Welcome !! I bought them from BLE Tools online. (high strength black glue stick - T249) Mega difference compaired to the ebay glue that came with the kit. But also a good tip was to monitor the ambient temp and panel temp to make sure it wasn't too cold.
Heat will bring out dents but not creases. As cant view in person at Copart since COVID they now do video walkrounds for £10 with a member of staff on WhatsApp so can see things properly if buying even for a few hundred quid worth doing. Think its supposed be 10 mins but generally they let them run so you can properly inspect the damage. Be warned though a lot of the yards dont have WIFI so video quality is gash. But can chat to the fella hands on with as many questions as want.

If you really know your stuff I'm sure there is profit in some well chosen cars but it's bloody risky, especially when you consider labour whether it's your own or paying professionals.😮 Probably a good way to get a project car you're not worried about selling on though.
Yeah I'm fortunate I have the workshop and the tools to eliminate some of the risk but like another viewer commented, the cost at the body shop cost more than the car.
The profit on this car looks ok but if you do this as a job you will soon be vat registered so between the £1500 paid and sale price £4600 you will pay vat on £3100 that's around £600 then on the £700 you have left as a sole trader you pay around £200 in tax/ national insurance, £500 into your pocket, but as you are selling car's for a living you're responsible for any faults for 6 months with the car, it will be up to you to fix it or prove that fault wasn't there at time of sale, I've done copart for years doing 80 to 100 car's a year and it's not easy with the prices and copart fees, good luck and enjoy giving it a go,
This is really good information because the high turn over figures will put you vat registered very easily and with the fees constantly going up I take it your profit margin will be taking the hit over the years of doing it ? 80 - 100 cars a year is some task 👏 I appreciate all advice and help so thanks very much for watching 👍
Tried this and got sent a car without a v5 and damage that wasnt on the images. The delivery drivers also scraped the front bumper on unloading it and just drove off saying not much they can do. Spoke to copart and they said they couldn't do much about it. Ended up selling the car making a very small profit of 50 quid.
This one came with a v5 but I've had one before (cat s) that came without one. I had to take photos from all angles and include pics of vin stamps on chassis to send to DVLA for them to authorise a new v5 ( bit of a pain ). Would you try again or was 1 experience enough?
@@identitycarcare477 The v5 process for me was relatively simple, just had to fill in a v62. To be honest wouldn't do it for making money as the risks are pretty high and copart hides small info about these cars. But if I wanted a car for myself then I'd 100% do it again.

No inspection required to go back on the road. Iv'e got a catagory s car being repaired just now as well for later in the year and its printed on the log book as cat s. This one has a clean log book but shows cat N on all hpi checks so I'm not sure about the removal side of things. But to answer original comment it doesn't need a special inspection as long as it has MOT and road worthy.
@@mehere3013 I stand corrected, you used to be able to. I did salvage cars some 30 years ago and have only just got back into them, but only do N, I used to do the old cat cars and take them for inspection at a designated depot to be inspected, if passed they would advise dvla and insurance companies the repairs were done to inspection level
Why could you not do the mot history check ?. You said you hadn’t lifted the bonnet , big mistake attempting to Start the car without checking the fluid. Levels . Read Copart. Agreements it informs you fuel will be removed, you’re very lucky if it comes with fuel.
I couldn't get the reg off the listing because they didn't have a vehicle report on this one which I normally see on the others. I was actually looking at another car and missed out and this one came up in the same auction so was a last minute gamble. NO.......unless you want the catagory removed........and there is the issue, 1 in 3 cars have a hidden history, that history could be a decent pro repair or a complete bodge!
@bornpompey2 you cant get a catagory removed
@@bornpompey2 can't happen that category stays with the car for the life of it,
No inspection required to go back on the road.
Driver that delivered said there was no fuel in it and it just keeps cutting out, I put fuel in it and tried to start and it's the eml faults that were the problem. I deffo shouldn't have turned the key with checking fluids You're 100% correct, impatient is the answer for that one 🙈
@ normally if you touch the part registration on the listing it shows the full identity, try it on another listing, The vehicle reports are not always accurate either but helpfull in other respects.
Wow I'm dumb haha VRN ( vehicle registration number ) is the section to click lol I always wondered what that was haha
I’ve got three cars I want to sell but he won’t reply🤣 I’ve got a 2017 3 series with 46k miles and a 2015 c220d with 55k miles and a 2010 Smart Fortwo with 51k miles. Anyone interested?
Don't think I've had any MSG's about buying cars bud 🤔 I've got 12 cars sitting just now though so definitely need to shift a couple before I've got space to buy more though
How much for the merc
@ £8000
Certain TH-camrs are in a privileged position, that is not real life, some of us try to make a living repairing salvage using our own money .. good luck for2025
I'm fortunate I have a full time job and use my expendable money on cars rather than clothes etc I've got 3 kids to provide for first so I certainly can't afford to lose money hand over fist. We appreciate all the support 👍🏻👍🏻
@@identitycarcare477 join the club mate, this is my living , so I will never be rich !!! ,
Never buy something without inspecting it? otherwise yoy WILL be Conned by Stich up Merchants end of, Plus i would never BUY anything that someone else had Bodge Up lol, its very easy to cover up Lash Ups lol
I've heard a few stories of people tarting them up to hide damage and sending them back through the auctions
Copart yard staff have taken the bulbs mate ...anything possible they can take them out parcel shelfs spare wheel kits even swap alloys with there own personal cars
Never thought of this 🤦 really poor if that's the case or is this just perks of the job you think ?? 🤔
@identitycarcare477 stealing is stealing 🤣 keep up the good work
@zahirahmed2498 thanks for the support we greatly appreciate it 👍🏻
Can anyone buy from them? Is it hard?
Relatively straightforward, I'm sure a basic account is free but if you want to bid on lots you have to upgrade which cost me £100 at the time.
Not hard for Dopey people lol
You got luck they offered you £50 they sold me a car as runs and drives came with an engine management lights on and the engine was lemon and they refused to take the car back and I lost £1500 on that they are doggy as f
Aw man 🤦 I think the feedback in the comments section is now weighing more to the negative side now experience wise now 😞. Was that your first experience with them?
Nah, that was after seven cars, and I averaged 7k per car. And when I told them I'm a customer who'd spent 50k total and this car was misadvertised, they didn't care. They charged me for parking i relieved that it was expensive car imagine if it was 20k or 30k car
Seems like it's their ball and they decides who plays judging by the feedback I'm getting
Copart cars are never as described,.
From some of the comments I've read there could be a theme emerging here 🤦🤦
Poss upgrade robbed for there new car
Oh my a3 got cat s for a Ding in rear quater nothing as bad as that corsa .
Yeah deffo should have been more than cat N and the auction photo showing the quarter damage had huge sun glare covering that side of the car. Hopefully we can get the issue resolved and we'll show the body shop repair in a part 2 style episode 😄
Overpriced 💩 Vauxhall never making a profit £4670 😂😂😂😂 never
I took the recommended add price from auto trader to try avoid this comment happening 😂😂😂. I don't think it will achieve that price personally especially since the prices on cars in general are coming down. When it goes I'll update everyone on exactly what it achieves 👍🏻
That needs a pull on jig before you try knocking dents out, insurance write offs worth 20% less than Coparts retail price
@@gw9568 I'll hopefully get a good video from the body shop of the final repair. I've viewed a few cars since buying this but trying to grab them 50% of the value Copart list on the add. I think that's what other people aim for but it's hard because it's very popular and so are the more performance based cars
over priced scrap ...
@@yanowski5645 it was always going to be a controversial car 🙈🙈🙈
