Great info.!! Should I use the ground on a new Centurion stretched canvas that has 1 coat of clear sealer and tripled primed w/acid free titanium acrylic primer??

Hi! Using an oil based primer like Gamblin Oil Ground is technically optional and a matter of personal preference for artists. While it would be fine for you to use Oil Ground on your surface that is already primed with acrylic primer, you are not required to.
Most canvases and panels primed with acrylic gesso are very absorbent. Oil paint layers on acrylic gesso can sink in and appear dull. Gamblin Oil Ground may be applied in 1-2 thin coats to an acrylic gesso primed canvas or panel to reduce absorbency and improve colour saturation.
Regarding ground application: Gamblin recommends their Ground and Gesso Blades for a perfect and even application with oil ground from edge-to-edge. Spread Oil Ground out thinly with your blade, keeping them thin for an adequate amount of tooth at the surface.
Allow the first coat to dry completely before applying the second coat. Dry time of Oil Ground will vary depending on temperature, humidity, and air flow. In general, the first coat should be touch dry in 2-4 days. A second coat may take a little longer to dry, about 3-5 days. Especially cool temperatures and high humidity may add several days’ dry time.
We hope this helps! If you have any follow-up questions, feel free to reach out to Mary directly by email at mary@gamblincolors.com.

Please Gamblin. There is NO replacement for real lead carbonate pw1 white paint for any serious artist. Please make a lead white so we can also buy our white from you. Thanks
