Thanks Matthew! I should've taken your advice about not going there in September though. I had to cut the trip short after a couple of days. The weather can be fantastic one day and horrible the next couple of days. Hope to do Lofoten to Nordkapp during June-July this summer if they will let me in.
@@BikeTouringMike Well there is one benefit to cycling in September - you had it all to yourself! I think you did a great job of showing how quiet, peaceful and beautiful Senja is! I hope you get to go to Nordkapp this year!
What a great and simple idea to test the surface by lying down BEFORE you pitch the tent. I cant remember how many times I’ve had to move the tent around because the ground underneath was not flat or level enough. Also, when you said “see you on the other side” and started riding off, I wanted to shout “no wait, the camera!”.
I almost feel like I am there riding. Watching this for the second time. Wish I was. Your music and video are superb. Can’t wait to see your next adventure in Norway.
Fin film, ser fram emot nästa avsnitt. Cyklade själv på samma vägar sommaren 2019, Helsingfors-Tromsö. Tältplatsen vid Ersfjorden (med ”guld-toan”) var nog en av de bästa på turen. Mycket folk dock i juli, kring 30 tält...
You out did yourself with this video. The tunnels, fishing villages and a beautiful camp site. Music was great. Thanks for taking us along. Take care and stay safe, Al
Another great video. I don't remember hearing about Senja but it's unforgettable after watching this. Breathtaking views. Looking forward to the next instalment 👍
What a stimulating video. Norway is my second big love , after New Zealand where I live. Can‘t wait to get back to Norway . Your video definitely has awaken longing. Thank you!
Hello Mike, Very interesting vlog, Inspired me to Ride touring bike in Norway and Sweeden. I have watched most of your youtube videos. Very interesting. many useful tips. The thing i like is you cook "Penang Curry" using Kara coconut milk. I am also from Penang Malaysia. Maybe if you find coconut milk brand "Rasaku" you must buy, its batter taste from Kara, If you plan to come to Malaysia please contact me. By now since pandemic covid19, I am back to Malaysia. Before this I am staying at Granada Spain, doing tourism business. Take care and wait for a new video from you. Hasta Luego
Norway really is a special place ...beautifully captured Mike thanks for taking us along. ? Givin some of the steep climbs and the load that you must have to carry have you ever run out gears? Oh music was excellent...have ever thought to post a soundtrack from your adventures this one was particularly good set the mood beautifully...stay well look forward to next episode Mike👍

Another excellent video Mike. Your film making skills are excellent. That looks to be a very beautiful place. Thanks for sharing your trip with the rest of us.
It was actually rather warm during the day, around 10C. But there were very strong winds that made everything a lot colder. The night and day after was super cold though.
what a fantastic camping site, and the scenery is just stunning, thank you for sharing these with us, it makes me dreaming and hoping I will be riding my bike soon. Looking forward to watch your next video, ride safe.
Thank you Roger! It is a great country for bike touring. A lot of people dismiss it since they think it might be very expensive. But as I showed in this video there are a lot of free campsites around, so If you only have to pay for food you can keep the costs down. I see you have recently subscribed to the channel. Welcome, hope you will find a lot of inspiring videos to watch.
Thank you Wayne! Hopefully the world will get back to what it once was and that international bike touring will be a lot easier to do. Welcome to the channel, by the way!
Thanks Mikael...another great video. Curious what was going on in those shots of the water?? ...kinda looked like construction, but maybe commercial fishing? just curios. Thanks again, hope you and family are all well!
what a spectacular and beautiful video, Mike !! i’ve enjoyed your videos since your trip w/ Darren Alff, from prague to vienna... all of them are inspiring... and, Norway or sweden become my dream destination of my future bike touring now.... since norway/sweden accomodations are expensive, can you give me further info regarding cheap accomodation or available real safe campsite? since bears or wolfs are the first things that i really really want to avoid... many thanks before, Mike...
Thanks Brian! Actually I don't think they have any snow on the ground at the moment. We're enjoying a very mild autumn here in Scandinavia this year. We still don't have any snow where I live, and we typically get it before the Norwegian coastline. They have the Gulf Stream that keeps the coast pretty warm during the winter.
What an awesome watch that was. Stunning scenery, you captured it really well Mike, loved the drone shots of the fish nurseries, and harbours. Looking at the map you had quite a detour to visit Husoy. What a great place to camp as well. Keep well/safe.
Beautiful, It does remind me a bit of British Colombia. Except zero traffic. Did you see any side roads going up in the mountains...for future exploration, maybe bike packing....Thanks again for the escape Mike.
Mike, I just watched episode 2 of your tour and I have to say it was fantastic. The music and photography right from the start was lovely, the scenery remarkable and your skills as videographer have continued to improve. The editing is also great, of course. When you’re recording yourself speaking on the bike what camera do you use and do you have an attachment to hold it? How do you get such clear sound and images? One question I always wanted to ask you, are you ever lonely on the road? Do you miss traveling with companions? Mike, thanks so much for sharing your bike touring experience and taking us along with you. When I’m watching these videos I feel like I’m a friend of yours and you’ve just sent me your latest adventure. Take care, have fun and stay safe. Looking forward to the next video.
Thank you Rusty for your lovely comment. Really makes it all worthwile. I use a Canon G7X Mark II most of the time and sometimes when I speak for a longer period of time I use a Rode Smartlav+ hooked up to a Zoom H1N recorder. I have a windmuff on top of the camera to reduce windnoice, but during this trip it had a pretty tough job. It was super windy all the time, so a lot of work has to be done in post production. Hence the music. If it was up to me I would remove most of the music, but then it would be wind noice all the time. I don't really use any attachments to the camera when I'm riding around, but when I shoot the scenes of me riding by I use this huge tripod that I lug around all of the time. Some day, I promise to make a video about all of this. It's easier to explain in a video than in writing. Believe me, I get questions about this all the time ;-) Yeah, I do get lonely from time to time. Mostly that I miss my wife and kids rather than having a touring partner with me. But at the same time I really enjoy the solitude. Plus riding with a person that constantly has to stop a rig up a tripod isn't all that fun to begin with. Although the tours that I have done with a partner/group of people have probably been the most memorable. So I will definitely try to do more of those in the future.
Thank you Mark. You're making me blush. :-) I forgot to tell about those red markers in the video. They are there to mark out where the road ends for the snow plow. So that the snow plow doesn't drive off the road. If there is a blizzard everything just turns into a white mess and it can be difficult to see where the road ends.
Hi Mike. That's cool that they have a warning system in the long tunnels to warn motorists. The scenery in Norway is wonderful. How far is this from where you live in Sweden? I don't know if Peter Kalin of Sweden follows you but he contacted me through Instagram to tell me my latest video was banned in Sweden over a few seconds of a song I used. I'm trying to get that song taken off quickly. That was crazy. Anyway, thanks for sharing another great day of your tour in Norway. Atb, Tony
Hej, spectacular scenery. Loving the drone footage. Great camp site. Did you go for a swim in the sea? Take it easy, and remember, don't buy beer after 10 or I'll get you!!
Just too bad is was so damn windy. Otherwise there would have been a lot more drone footage. I almost lost the drone twice on that day. Probably a combination of inexperience and the windy conditions. No, it was proably around 5C in the water so I was not that enticed. Very pretty to look at though. Systembolaget's sales are going to go through the roof if the pubs are closed.
Thank you for this beautiful video. I'm curious about the bicycle warning lights in the tunnels. Do they turn off after a certain amount of time or do you turn it off after you are through? We have them on some tunnels in Washington State and Oregon, but I've only driven my car through the tunnels and there is no place to stop to check this out. Keep safe.
My guess is that they calculate how ong it would take for an average cyclist to get through and then base the time on the signal on that. There wwere no knob to turn it off after the tunnel, no. In the next video I will demonstrate a whole other "cyclist in the tunnel system" that they had on the island. Probably just as smart as this one.
@@BikeTouringMike Good to know. I guess tunnels are no place to dawdle. I'm thinking earplugs would be good to deaden the sound a bit while in a tunnel.
I really like it. It has served me well during the last three years. I had a pretty windy night between day two and three on this trip. But the tent stayed stable through the night. The only bad thing I can say about it is that if I could choose, I would have preferred to have the door on the side instead of the head end. But since I'm always by myself in the tent it's ok. Having to climb over another person to get out of the tent in the middle of the night is no fun. And the 1 man tent might be a little small. However it depends whether you want to have your panniers inside the tent or not. The two man fit both me, my panniers and I can spread out a bit, so I went for that model.
