Great video Gary, a really good tip on having a dry run before the event. The amount of times I've set off and had to rejig the contents of my bag mid race. Really recommend the UTS if you don't get into the Lakeland 100 next year. I did the 50km and it was by far the hardest 50km event I've ran, the 165 is supposed to be brutal.
Great video Gary, always good to see other setups. I'm currently trying the Salomon 12 adv vest and still finding pockets all over it. It is handy knowing the cards in a small chia charge bar, I need ro get more ordered. I'm still trying to get the ratios right on the gel though. If I mix it the night before it ends up too thick, I need more water than their guidelines say. All the best.
Thank you for this. Doing my first ultra in May (The Lap) and useful info about packing the least used stuff low down! Obvious really, but I have been practicing my runs and vest packing based on comfort!
Hi Gary I’m just starting out on my trail running journey so watching things like this is super helpful for me, out of interest what waterproof trousers would you recommend?
Thanks for watching plus comment 👍🏻 I’ve got a some montane minimus and inov-8 trailpant. Both are fine and I don’t use them often, but I do prefer the inov-8 👍🏻
Thanks Gary, some top tips there! Like the look of the utility belt but I’m dead sensitive to stuff around my waist. Personal question but have you used it when not feeling so good gut wise, bloated? empty? churning? Etc TIA
Thanks Andy, luckily I’ve not suffered from bloating when using it. The large on me isn’t that tight, but I can imagine a smaller size not being much fun if you’re full of wind. Ultimate Direction are way off when sizing this so 100% try one first if possible.
Reinforced my current bag pack routine. The only difference is I sometimes just stick a water bladder in as some of the races I've entered stated must have 1.5ltr water capacity. Do you only need the one 500ml flask for Lakeland 100? Assuming you can fill up on the fells too? Cheers as usual for the class video 🙌🙌🙌
Good question. I don’t remember anything re more that 500ml. It’s all I carried, but I had two cups 😂 Yeah, so much water on route it was never a problem. Maybe next year I’ll pop a spare soft flask in the back of the pack. 1.5ltr! That is heavy!!
@@teaandtrails yeah I trained with 1.5ltr for lady Anne's way last year. Then on the day the pipe on my bag had an issue so ended up running with two flasks and a cup (1.5ltr) so felt allot lighter on the actual race. Quite the pleasant experience to train heavier race lighter. 🙌

Can’t believe you can fit all that gear in that little vest! 😀
Yeah, it was a squeeze, but it want in. Well, with little help from the utility belt and shorts!
