    Oltre alla eccellenza assoluta degli interpreti questa performance delizia lo spettatore per la bellezza della coreografia che è trasfusa negli stessi corpi degli artisti che diventano musica e coreografia! Un miracolo!❤

    (presumably) no one else will care, but the straight neckline on olga's costume was an outstanding design choice to me: it gave me so much of a sense of the obstinacy of the character but also the modernity of the adaptation. obviously olga and semyon were both irradiant in their roles, but I just wanted to give some love to the costume designers

    I love this whole ballet so much. Choreographed by someone who understands psychology and romance in different forms. You can tell the dancers really "got" it.

    • @OreadNYC

      Definitely -- especially given the way in which the four couples (Bianca/Lucentio, Housekeeper/Gremio, Katharina/Petruchio, Widow/Hortensio) turned out in the end. One of the things which I find interesting about the choreography is the way in which Gremio and Hortensio appear to copy Petruchio's approach with Katharina in their courtship of Bianca only to fail spectacularly and be driven off and lured away by the two older and obviously more experienced women.
      Bianca throughout the ballet comes across as a delicate, innocent romantic. Lucentio wins her over because he's a gentle, sweet, unassuming man who treats her with respect. However, there are hints here and there in the choreography that Bianca is a bit of a tease -- and her happiness at the very end is spoiled somewhat when she sees how blissfully happy Katharina and Petruchio are! Katharina needs a man with a personality as passionate and strong as hers whom she can't intimidate and who's capable of matching wits with her (even beating her at her own game)...but someone who, deep down, is also capable of tenderness.

    Maillot brings out the best of these outstanding dancers. Smirnova and Chudin are just wonderful. And what a music! Shostakovich was a genious! With all this gifted people I wonder when will Russia have a proper goverment. Europe, with all it's culture still with wars. Incomprehensible.

    This wedding pas de deux is beautiful - a combination of Maillot’s choreography, Shostakovich’s music, and the chemistry between Chubin & Smirnova. Chubin’s dancing is expressive, revealing a different facet of him as a dancer.

      If you're referring to the earlier scene between Katharina and Petruchio, I disagree. Not only was that scene one of the sexiest things I've ever seen in a ballet -- and who says ballet can't be sexy? -- it makes sense from my perspective. Bianca and Katharina in terms of personality are virtually polar opposites so it's only natural that they will not only attract and marry very different men but also bond with those men in very different ways. Katharina is hot-headed, independent, and passionate -- she needs a man every bit as strong-willed as she is whom she can't intimidate and who's able to challenge and even beat her at her own game, and Petruchio fits the bill because he's a lot like her. Given how incredibly fiery and tempestuous these two are, one of the primary ways in which they're going to bond is sexually because it's a natural outlet for all the energy they generate together.

    This is a beautiful and wonderfully romantic pas de deux on the surface...but what I find most interesting about it is the way in which there are hints here and there throughout the choreography which make it clear that this relationship might not be entirely as blissful as it seems. Bianca over the course of the ballet comes across as a delicate and innocent young girl but there are moments when she displays her true colors and shows that she has the capacity to be manipulative and a bit of a tease. The relationship between Bianca and Lucentio is not entirely equal -- Bianca very much enjoys Lucentio's admiration and infatuation because he's such a gentle, sweet, and unassuming man but he has placed her on a pedestal. As long as Lucentio is willing to adore Bianca and be her acolyte, they will be fine...but what happens after Bianca falls from her pedestal (as she does at the very end of the ballet) or Lucentio is no longer content to be the giver in the relationship?

    Wonderful music & perfect ballet dancing, especially from Semyon, he has perfect grace.
    In this unabashed age it would be more credible if he had a male partner, you can act & look in love as much as you can, it looks rediculous to me.

    I hate the costume. It doesn't belong with this music nor the mood /period of story.
    I generally like Smirnova and Chudin very much so it's too bad.

    • @OreadNYC
      @OreadNYC ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In all fairness, if you watch the entire ballet, *none* of the costumes -- including those of the corps de ballet -- fit the period! This clearly was never intended to be a faithful interpretation of the Shakespeare play like the Cranko version -- especially since the ballet includes a character which doesn't even exist in the play -- but instead was intended to be a study of the dynamics and temperaments of the characters. I actually rather like the modern spin on the traditional Romantic tutu.
