They absolutely are messy! Hahaha! But once you get them past that tough baby stage it gets better if you don't have to keep them contained. We have a pond so they go there once they are old enough. Our biggest issue is they DESTROYED our garden. We have moved our garden to a different location in hopes of them not finding it!

Congrats better early then late I had one hatch 4 days late caused it to be bow legged only lived 11 months even though I did splint tge leg and got it pretty straight
I also love ducks but keeping my duck flock under 10 they are easy to take care of but u they get hurt or sick harder then a chicken to take care of
Can you post a pic of the duck you talked about that took so long maybe I can help you with its problem
