    The thoughtfulness you put into your practical tips & your pronunciation of how things are called/said in Medellin are 10/10. Best travel advice video for Colombia I’ve seen. Thank you!!

    Thank you for your insightful and positive video. I too am from California and went to Medellin in 2018. I stayed in Laureles for three weeks. I loved it. Never had a negative experience and yes, the people are very kind. I look forward to returning and exploring more of Colombia and S. America. Cheers.

    Medellín is one of my places to visit next time I go back to Colombia.
    My first trip to Colombia in February of this year was a bad experience.
    I brought someone who I thought was my friend back to her home country after 3 years of not seeing her family. Me, her and her daughter made the journey to Bogotá then to Bucaramanga and then a 4 bus ride to her hometown of Aguachica. We pretty much rushed to get there.
    Then the day after we arrived in Aguachica she ditched me at her mom's house and she went to Barranquilla 7 hours away to meet her online girlfriend for 4 days.
    I stayed at her mom's waiting for her to get back. Her family took me to a local festival and took me to play some billiards during those 4 days.
    When she returned it was nothing but dental appointments and recovery with her and I didn't get to do much. I regret taking her there after months of saving.
    I'm saving again to go in December

    • @WorldwideWu

      I totally understand. Most important thing you need to do is to keep your valuables out of sight in public. Only go out with things you can afford to lose that day. Ultimately the people that are trying to rob you are doing it because they need the money, not because they are trying to actually hurt you. You will be fine and I hope you fall in love with Medellin as much as I did!

    Thanks for sharing! Going to Medellin & Cartagena next week so your videos have been super helpful!
    Which restaurants were your favorite in both places? And any activities you would highly recommend? Thanks!

    • @WorldwideWu
      @WorldwideWu  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching!! 😊 my fav restaurant in Cartagena was Celele (pricey but worth the experience, and you have to reserve in advance) and my favorite one in Medellin was Alambique. I would definitely take free walking tours in both and I specifically loved the food tour and coffee tour I took in Medellin :) I put the links to those in the description box of my vlog. Also take a salsa dancing class if you haven’t taken one before!

    Thanks for your video! A few questions. 1) Did you use cash or credit card mostly? And if cash, are the currency exchange places easy to find / work with? 2) I know you talked about purchasing a "dummy" phone, but did your personal phone still work / get signal? (how does that all work?) 3) Is it necessary to carry your passport with you to most/all places?

    • @WorldwideWu
      @WorldwideWu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi!
      1) I used both, and yes there are ATMs around, especially in the city center. You will need cash on you for sure cause not every place accepts credit card
      2) yes I have free data that comes with my phone plan so I was able to use my cell phone. If you don’t have a free data plan, I recommend getting an e-Sim
      3) I personally don’t like to carry around my passport because I don’t like thinking about the risk of it getting stolen or lost. Whereas if you kept it in a safe in your hotel or Airbnb, it’s much more secure. But up to you!

    Thank you for posting this video! So helpful! I’m an asian female as well and I’m thinking about traveling solo to Medellin. It would be my first real solo trip. Would you say it’s unsafe to be walking aloe even in broad daylight? Thanks!

    • @WorldwideWu
      @WorldwideWu  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Aw thanks for watching! You’d wanna definitely be in safer areas during the day. I avoided the city center when I was there, but I’d say other main areas are safe during broad daylight, just make sure not to have anything flashy out!

    • @Schleifen

    Thanks for the info. I spend a lot of time in Mexico, but I'll be visiting Colombia for the first time at the end of the year. Definitely looking forward to good food and adventure! Though I've never been to South America, just by watching other videos it reminds me very much of Mexico. Does being in Colombia feel the same as being in Mexico? What are the similarities and differences?

    Hi hi! Are you able to shoot photography on the street? Is it safe to pull out my camera while on the street or should I just take shots while on a tour? If it's me and my boyfriend taking photos would we be ok?

    • @WorldwideWu
      @WorldwideWu  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Even though I didn’t experience anything dangerous during my time there, I would still recommend not pulling out your camera unless you’re on a tour. If you need to, I’d do it quickly and just make sure you’re aware of your surroundings. I couldn’t resist taking shots sometimes too but definitely be cautious!

    thanks for the helpful info! Going next month, we were going to bring an old iphone to use there (instead of our actual phones) to take pics and use uber - were you able to buy a sim card at the mall??

    • @WorldwideWu
      @WorldwideWu  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn’t able to! That’s because the specific Claro store we were at didn’t sell SIM cards. They directed us to another store but we didn’t have time to go, so we essentially never used the dummy phone. We just used our regular iPhones but never had it out if we didn’t need to!
