Al Murray has a doctorate in History from Oxford, he is a very intelligent guy, The Pub Landlord is his stage persona based on a stereotypical Publican.
Correct, and he used to have a regular TV series on saturday night, with guests, but still with a segment as the Pub Landlord, but thanks to PC and woke, he moved to live theatre, and has massive support
Bachelors degree ! Also much later - Murray was awarded an honorary degree (Hon MA) by the University of Bedfordshire in 2014, and an honorary doctorate of Social Science (Hon SScD) by the University of Wolverhampton in 2017.
Jess is fast becoming a TH-cam star, her laughter is fantastic & so pure. Al Murray’s persona as the ‘Pub Landlord’ is much loved by the UK public & those like yourselves. Best wishes from across the Pond
British humour is brutal at times and THAT is exactly what humour should be and that is to laugh in the face of life and DEATH and ALL the poop that life throws at us ALL. 😂👊
@@user-mn1vz5ew7oAsk any American military man, if he's served where there's British special forces, marines or Paras. I'll guarantee the 1st thing he'd say is about how humorous they are no matter how bad a situation they could be in. The British will laugh at themselves as much as laughing at others. We are talking about life or death situations. They never stop joking it's just the way we are over here. Our humour can be very brutal & the very best of our comedians don't give a single f**k who they upset. They're very appreciated for that over here. Woke BS & the vast majority of British people don't get along one bit.
He's playing a character, the Pub Landlord, and he drinks low- or no-alcohol beer on stage. The character is a fairly right-wing, overly patriotic man who has very strong opinions about things he knows very little about. Al Murray is a genius - one of the funniest and cleverest comedians out there. Watch his explanation of how the world's finance system works. You will hurt from laughing.
Yep, saw him back in '99 and a friend helped out back stage. He told me afterwards that it was all non-alcoholic beer, but he did such a great job of playing the role, especially as I don't think he'd been on the telly yet at that point.
I agree, but there’s still an element of truth behind it as well. He says things which are true but as if told by someone who doesn’t know much. - I think his beer was something like Fosters. In the UK, that basically translates to 4%ish a pint. Drink 4 like we do in half hour, You shouldn’t drive basically. Shouldn’t drive full stop after a drink but you know what I mean.
I've watched this probably 100 times. And every time I cry with laughter. "The point is this"... He is a comedy genius. It's wonderful you both find him funny.
He's a very intelligent guy got a degree in History from Oxford Universtiy. He takes no prisoners when on stage. You should see his performance about the worst job in the world.
Guys well done .AL Murray take the piss out of everyone!! no one cane be offended. But he's super bright and know load about history . bloody clever guy.
Al was a graduate from Oxford University and knows his history. He is playing the part of a know it all pub landlord so not showing his real persona." Al Murrey explains global finance " is a killer and will have you in tears .
The first part of his shows he interacts with the first few rows of the audience, finding out their names, jobs, hobbies etc. Then incorporates them into the show, Steve in the audience had told Al he had been the keyboard player in a quite well known punk band. Although his charecter is a blue collar pub landlord, he is actually from a very elevated family, and is related to former Prime Minister David Cameron and poet William Makepeace Thackeray. He has a degree in modern history from Oxford University, and filmed a documentary on WW2, "From D-Day to Berlin" He also had a quasi chat show where his guests included Astronaut Buzz Aldrin. He developed the pub landlord into a sit-com charecter running a dingy run-down pub in London, titled "Time Gentlemen Please" (the shout every drinker dreads hearing). But his best work is in stand-up. Try "How Global Finance really Works", where you'll hear his accents from arounf the world.
I know I’m not wrong having read a lot of these comments: I’ve watched a lot of Americans react to Al Murray and this clip which is far too short. Some don’t get him at all others are offended but NONE have laughed in the way that you two have! You get him and your response is not only genuine but uncontrollable… I’ve nothing to add to the other offerings suggested because every one’s a gem. I’ve so enjoyed your channel right from the off and hope to see much more.
The guy who he asked about God Save the Queen is a music teacher. The first part of his show is getting to know who is in the audience. You should also check out Al Murray on Nations of the World.
Al Murray, despite looking like a bar room brawler is as close to genius as most will come. He is an authority on historical matters. He appears to have a photographic memory and a marvellous method of delivering the English language in Murray like logic and a sense of the bizarre. Been to one of his shows - he's merciless should he focus his attention on you in the crowd. Can recommend anything he's presented as worthwhile listening if it's a serious documentary or if he's delivering a comedy show as the pub landlord.
Great reation guys👍Al's crowd work is awesome,he'll pick half a dozen people or so get their name and profession ond throughout the show will refer to them like 'Steve' in this one that Al found out played the piano, hence the can you play god save the Queen. I saw him in April and he did a 2hr set like this. Athor brilliant ones from him are- Countries of the world All jobs are terrible How global finance works The British have defeated every country at war There's loads with Al tbh you'll love him, cheers✌️
I managed to get to see Al Murray live and he’s hilarious. His character “the pub landlord” is based of a UK TV sitcom called “time gentleman please”. You guys should check that out 👍🏻🇬🇧
Look at "Black Adder goes forth". It isn't stand-up, but it's both hilarious British humour and the final episode ends in the most perfect way. You'll also recognise Hugh Lawrie in it too - playing a different character than you're used to see him as.
Love you both, I love your reactions to our comedians, We love American people, so don't ever feel offended, we take the piss out of everyone and mostly ourselves life's all about laughing best medicine ever invented...👍
As others have said, Al Murray is a great comedian, and is very intelligent with a degree in history. The Pub Landlord is his main character, and based on the average pub landlord who are generally very opinionated. If you can watch a few more of his videos, he is great. He always includes the audience in a very funny way in all his shows. Every Country the British have defeated is a good one too.....
Hm. TH-cam doesn't seem to allow links, even to one of it's own pages, it seems. It just detects a link and takes it down. However, another Al Murray video is Al Murray and the Nations of the World.
Thanks guys this is one of my favourites, his secretary & national anthems videos are good too, just for his take on the american flag. FYI you did get the right one, that's where that clip cuts out whatever one you go for usually
Great Channel Guys. 😂. One thing you need to understand about British humour is no one is safe. Especially ourselves. Al Murray is brilliant in the way he takes the Mickey out of everyone but he also making himself the joke. It’s not personal. It’s actually a compliment. 🙏

Al Murray sums up the self deprecating humour of the Brits, we mock others but we mock ourselves just as much
The whole point of the 'Pub Landlord' is to mock the persona.
It’s the correct video, you’ve found yourself a huge rabbit hole with Al Murray
There is one that goes on for much longer.

Al Murray (as his character The Pub Landlord) had his own sitcom called 'Time Gentlemen, Please!'.
Try Victoria Wood, especially Acorn Antiques, she and Julie Walters are excellent.
The mini bar in this stand-up show or another he rides the bar in, with him steering it (or looks like he's steering it with the pumps).
Have you tried reviewing Mis-heard lyrics by Peter Kay?
