Pottis are of two kinds: Malyalam speaking and Tulu speaking. In the case in hand, they are Malayalam-speaking Pottis, ie. Tulu Brahmins domiciled in Thiruvananthapuram for centuries, who forgot Tulu and accepted Malayalam as their mother tongue. Eagerly waiting for your response.
Pottis - Common assumption is that Pottis are of Tulu origin. However, they can be either Malayala brahmins or Tulu brahmins. Again, Malayala Pottis can be of two types based on their origin. The one who were immigrated from Tulunad centuries ago and accepted malayala brahmin customs. And the other one having origin in any of the thirty-two Namboothiri gramams, who are basically Namboothiri brahmins having title 'Potti', such as Pottis of Ettarayogam. In past, the generic surname used by Malayala brahmins south of Changanasseri or Kadamuri gramam was 'Potti'. Tulu brahmins who got domiciled south of Kottayam also used this title.
