Really cool to see this thing coming together so nicely! Also, the PTsnoozer feels like an absolute fever dream at this point… I always forget you own it, and whenever it pops up on camera, my internal monologue goes, “aaaahhhh.”
Great job, Jake. That is a significant improvement indeed. I love that you are able to upgrade and keep an old car on the road where it belongs. Well done indeed. I haven't seen one of these on the road in a long time. Unfortunately Honda was not very good at corrosion resistance back then, so our wonderful weather condemned most, if not all, of them to an early death. Keep up the good work.
Dad had a first gen Civic Hybrid with a manual transmission. The IMA system was impressive and the car was super nice to operate. Not, however, a fast car ....
I have the GT4000 and it works fantastic I guess I got a deal I wasnt supposed to I paid $199 on Amazon as soon as they came out but right after I purchased it the listing disappeared on Amazon but I have used the crap out of it
Man if you get a chance can you take a video of how to swap the trunk/cargo light bulb. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the plastic cover off and I'm afraid I'm going to break it if I pull too hard. Really have loved this series!
I hope you can make this thing comfortable enough to actually use as a daily driver. Perhaps you could even add some more sound deadening or one day get a custom interior (but now I'm just thinking out loud).
Sweet! Looking forward to the updates. Curious to hear how it does once everything is buttoned up. Once upon a time I was considering putting del sol seats in my civic coupe…..until I sold the car.
Very cool! (Also I was so bummed when my GP4000 turned out to only support qc and not usb-pd. But it can spin a lawnmower engine darn fast. Maybe I'll get one of these new ones eventually.)
Great progress and a usable car once again....however, I would be looking now to lose the sub in the back and find a way to add 20 Nissan Leaf cell packs tied across cell for cell to your existing battery. Moving from rather less than 1kwh to about 11 kwh of battery would start to give JR's Chevy Volt a run for its money, cruising on little more than the 13 hp electric motor !
Jake could you help me out and tell me which wires on the harness need the Anderson connectors spliced on. It was the only reason I was watching this video. Lol and you skipped it. Or someone point me to Mudders vid I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.
I have two insights, but swapping one of them with litium for $2400 is way to expensive for me. I bought the car 15 years ago to save on gas which i still do today may be one day if i hit the lottery will do swap. Till then happy and safe driving. Love your videos keep up the good work.
So it is really that hard to replace the battery pack on the 1st gen insight? I want to buy one, but not if I can't just use some of my lithium cells or various types.

Cool, keeping a piece of history on the road. I felt the same way with my 1987 Volvo 740 GLE five speed stick. Then my patience became very thin and I said, two tears in a bucket, motherf--k it and I sold it! Lol.
Say for me the big deal is that pack of more electricity going to the motor . It's great that you got a new and reliable battery but those Motors are overbuilt for the amount of current that Honda sent them
$2400 for a new battery? Cheaper than $30k for a new Insight. I would have done that to my old 2001 Insight but have Lithophobia (fear of Lithium batteries) 😊😊
One of the ugliest cars ever made, I remember when these were new and thinking who the hell would buy one of these. Up there next to the Prius and aztek in ugliest cars ever made. But hey it's not my car so nobody cares what my opinion is. A guy my best buddy worked for has one of these same color among some other weird ass cars and they could have made these so much cooler looking. Honda made some damn good looking cars so seeing them make this was strange.
Very cool man. Oddly, I really dig this project, despite my distaste of hybrids or electric cars. It's just cool to hack stuff and make what you've got better! I am still today, as I was day one, really triggered by the drivers door of this car.... Love the exhaust note of your PT, it sounds really beefy and reminds me of the straight pipe 2006 Mazdaspeed6 I had back in 06-11. If that thing were the neon, I'd be banging on your front door to try and buy it for a project driver, but I just can't see myself in a stock PT cruiser, much less one with all the body mods yours has, unfortunately. Odd site note... think I have the exact same laptop you just showed with the jump box. Elitebook 1030g2, I think. Had this model as my work machine for 3 years, liked the hardware but absolutely hated our win10 image... so bought one for dirt off ebay and it's been a super solid machine for a couple years now. Spent the last 8 months running linux on it because I'm tired of windows. Ubuntu 20.04lts, which works really well for the most part, sans some of the touchpad gestures and no fingerprint reader.... booo.
19:22 - very unfortunate foreshadowing... great video man!
Such a cool series, the perfect intersection of Jake’s computer and car hobby
Really cool to see this thing coming together so nicely! Also, the PTsnoozer feels like an absolute fever dream at this point… I always forget you own it, and whenever it pops up on camera, my internal monologue goes, “aaaahhhh.”
My internal monologue on the pt cruiser is the same but with more exclamation points.
14:44 😆The flashlight cut was hilarious!😆

The chassis on these are entirely aluminum; there's very little to rust on them
@@100PercentJake I believe they can get a bit corroded in the places where there's steel mounted to aluminium.
Did they die the crumbly death of oxidized aluminum?
19:20 Bro called it 😭💀
I don't have to say this but I feel that I must: this video has given me a good deal of...insight.
19:02 from the look of all those warning lights on the dash hood struggle to know the difference between the BMW and the Honda!😜
Congratulations on the success of the battery pack. It is great to see the improvement to the Insight. Looking forward to your next video.
Congratulations on successfully completing the battery conversion. It was indeed an interesting video series.
Hi Jake greetings from uk 🇬🇧. Really enjoyed your Honda lithium swop series. Very interesting.
Best commercial for gooloo ever.
This series has been entertaining, informative, and thought provoking. Well done Jake! Some of your best work!
i can design up a frame to hold the little display if you want me too.
To pick a part Mercedes section for comfortable seats
GOOD JOB JAKE, for as shotty as the rest of the work you do,,,especially BMW stuff, this turned out ok, and was thinking outside the box
Dad had a first gen Civic Hybrid with a manual transmission. The IMA system was impressive and the car was super nice to operate. Not, however, a fast car ....
So cool that new Insight parts can be made to work with the old one.
I have the GT4000 and it works fantastic I guess I got a deal I wasnt supposed to I paid $199 on Amazon as soon as they came out but right after I purchased it the listing disappeared on Amazon but I have used the crap out of it
Hey a check engine light. What a shock :)
Congrats on getting your beater/science project up and running again!
Man if you get a chance can you take a video of how to swap the trunk/cargo light bulb. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the plastic cover off and I'm afraid I'm going to break it if I pull too hard. Really have loved this series!
Jake's 458 Italia. The Gunsight returns. Better than ever.
I hope you can make this thing comfortable enough to actually use as a daily driver.
Perhaps you could even add some more sound deadening or one day get a custom interior (but now I'm just thinking out loud).
Congratulations on having your car up and running. As always, I love your content... thanks for all your time and effort. God's blessings on you
Great series to watch for a old school mechanic like myself.
Jake for president of Auto Zone
Killer, man. Congrats on finishing this project. (as if projects are ever finished, but you know what I mean)
Glad to see the hard work come together! Keep us updated!
Great job Jake, good to see the Insight up and running!
Also I hope your eyes are fine
I am primarily entertained! Please continue.
personally i love the seats from a Nissan altima they are very comfy
It's ALIVE.....so awesome to see you save this very cool Honda, predecessor to my PHEV Honda Clarity :)
Great investment and daily driver.
I really liked your old intro, the new one is still good though !
Great videos man. Reminds me of old skool TH-cam videos
I always come when Jake says he's gonna put it in. The battery...the battery.
I'm looking forward to that in one of mine. I'll need to go get a job first.
Very nice mod and up grade to honda insight . It would be nice to see if someone has done a kit for Honda civic hybrid 2004 .
This made me happy! Good work, and I hope it keeps running well.
I really should have bought the Insight for sale I had sent you.....damn.
Now,.thats a hell of a result Jake. We can actually see the performance diference.
Wow this is so cool it shows that really we can do anything with the body of a car well done
Do they make this for the 2nd gen civic hybrid?
Great progress and a usable car once again....however, I would be looking now to lose the sub in the back and find a way to add 20 Nissan Leaf cell packs tied across cell for cell to your existing battery. Happy Honda days are here again! congrats on the, so far _(knocks on wood),_ successful swap!
Bumblebee batteries sells these plug and play. Great video though!
the most anticipated video of 2022
Jake could you help me out and tell me which wires on the harness need the Anderson connectors spliced on. It was the only reason I was watching this video. Lol and you skipped it. Or someone point me to Mudders vid I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.
Is this still in beta? Kinda nervous to swap until it's finished and warranteed..
Wow, I actually enjoyed the Insight. Have you ever showed it like that?
Anyways, could we pleeeease get a garage update? Thx
Brilliant video as always Jake 👍🙂👍🇬🇧🇺🇲🇬🇧🇺🇲

Does the insight have a brake by wire system that bypasses the physical brakes until your brake input is too much for only regenerative?
Yup!
Jake!!!! Love you man
Yayyyy Insight powahhh

Worth it
Remind me again, why is the door a different color and why does it say Supreme?
Any better MPG's???
Cool, keeping a piece of history on the road. I felt the same way with my 1987 Volvo 740 GLE five speed stick. Then my patience became very thin and I said, two tears in a bucket, motherf--k it and I sold it! Lol.
As I watch around the 5 minute mark, I start to think... this guy resembles someone
trying to develop a ghostbuster proton pack in his garage.
Say for me the big deal is that pack of more electricity going to the motor . It's great that you got a new and reliable battery but those Motors are overbuilt for the amount of current that Honda sent them
Glad I bought into that click bait or I wouldn't've found your channel! Amazing shit you do
Oh an Insight only has two seats
Cool video thanks
Well you've built a rocket ship😂.What's next i wonder.
well done.
So why didn't you wanna play for a hooptie Mercedes?
$2400 for a new battery? Cheaper than $30k for a new Insight. I would have done that to my old 2001 Insight but have Lithophobia (fear of Lithium batteries) 😊😊
PT Cruiser: The Fidget Spinner of automobiles.🙄
Great build! The mustache is questionable.
Psychic @ 19:20.....Hmmmm, I might get rear ended doing that...(Brake Regen)
11:56 wanna sell it?
Hey Jake, something died on your face. Upper lip area. (Good job on the car though!)
I preferred the old intro personally…. 😊
Bro don't drive it around too much, someone will crash into the back of you! You've been warned ⚠️
I see what you did there - rather what you SAID there.
..... followed by the obligatory, "That's what she said"
Don't spend your $1000 insurance settlement all at one place...
👀
I don’t know about this car they didn’t last that long
It’s sad to watch this before it gets totaled. 🙁 All that work for nothing.

is that a turbo'd pt cruiser LOL
