Thank you for highlighting her. She is a gem but I haven't been following her that closely but because of this. I will definitely have her on my radar.
Before I even watch this, I have ties across the Caribbean and my maternal side comes from a country that is very closely linked to Dominica so when she wins, it feels like we've won because the talent is strong in the OECS but we don't reach the heights we should. I know we also had/have people of OECS heritage athletes running for other countries (born else where - Asha Phillip, Desiree Henry, Lansiquot, Rai Benjamin - and the likes of Miguel Francis, Sarah Proctor and Zharnel Hughes who transferred to Britain) is strong and the history of people like Kim Collins and Daniel Bailey great etc but it is great to see Julien Alfred and Thea LaFond going places from Saint Lucia and Dominica actually representing those countries. Saint Lucia had Lavern Spencer and Jeanelle Scheper make a world final in 2015 which was major but it's been a long time waiting for DA since Jérôme Romain. Thea LaFond is picking up where Jérôme Romain left off. Note worthy is Julien and Thea are both women and that is massive - we've always had social mobility in track but for women to be the main athletes is massive at this moment. Look out for Naomi London from Saint Lucia too, hopefully Julien Alfred help her remain humble. Also I've met Thea and her husband and they're good people. Shout out to the nature isle.
Thea LaFond is definitely on the rise. I look forward to seeing her have more battles with the likes of Yulimar Rojas, Shanieka Ricketts, Kimberley Williams and Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk.
Had to come back to this video! You nailed it perfectly! World indoors and Olympic champ when she jumped 15.02 I was actually thinking about this video
Sir, you said Dominica is yet to earn a medal of any colour when it comes to the world championships or Olympics then you've proceeded to include a video clip of Jérôme Romain, the bronze medallist of the Triple Jump at the 1995 World Championships.
Apologies! your correct I did mean women as Thea would be the first woman to win a World Championship or Olympic medal! And was also thinking about the Olympics as we lead into 2024. Thanks for the correction!
