Yes, James and I both had an A2000 at one time. We often wondered what three in a row would do on the same antenna! PS - I think max power would be around 5kW. Still a lot!
Hi Mr. Callum, I have never heard the term "Burner" over here.. I have heard "Afterburner"; "Linear"; "Amplifier"; "Footwarmer"; "Pill Box"(I hate the term Pill for a Transistor); "Kicker"; "Heater"; "Box" .. ♠W.G.
My god, that amp is beautiful. Shame it's the price of a fairly nice used car, but maybe I can get along with taking the bus to places for 10 years or so? Hahaha, maybe someday. Also, shame we don't have 240v as standard around here because I'd love to take such an amp on field days too! 73 de W8IJC.
I have owned 3 amplifiers. Heathkit SB-220, Heathkit SB-1000 and finally an AECOM 1000. The first two I had to rebuild. Why like the ACOM is that it slaps you upside the head when you do something stupid and saves itself.
@@charleswoods2996 I started with homebrew fan dipole in attic (80-6 meters) and then started using an 18.5ft vertical in yard (no ground plane or radials) with a manual tuner in shack. Definitely not the best way to do it, but the vertical does great for DX, compared with attic dipole.
Nice amp mate. Oh hang on.... I just kicked one under my desk, how did that get there? I blame you. They are great bits of kit. Expensive? Yes. I bought mine with money from my late Grandfather who was a WWII radar and radio operator. I think of him every time I turn it on. Great quality kit - buy once cry once. No regrets.
Is that mean that from now on wires for DX commander will be electrically cut to resonance? BTW How will you recognize which piece of wire was self-cut for Region 1 and which for Region 3? One will be cut in meters other in feet.
Dx.commander by any chance could you upload your videos on the intermediate exam. I watched all your videos on the foundation and passed. I found them very helpful. Greatly appreciated of you could :) 73 Mi7DGO
Cool piece of gear, but I would probably burn my house down, have all the automatic garage doors in a 10 mile radius opening, and have satellites accidentally falling out of the sky if I had one and used it.😁
Pricey. What is it about radio equipment and its cost? Wants and needs driving prices it seems. Was going to dive into this hobby but I would have to sell my motorcycle but it's my transport to work, holidays and burning around a track if I want to. Get me HAM stuff for £1k which will keep me going for 10 years minimum and after sell for a high price and I'm in.
Haha, yes OK.. We had a round-robin about this a while ago, (tried to find the video but I can't).. but our analysis showed that almost ANY hobby starts (doing it reasonably well) at about 1,000 notes (dollars or pounds!)

I'm still only 100 watts QRP. It is time to buy one of these!
I have the 1000 and 600s, waiting for the new version of the Acom 2000... Acom do make fantastic equipment..
Yes, I don't think they ever made the one in the picture with the new front panel? I don't know..
I just discovered you can get a splitter and run 3 of these at the same time. 6k watts is a 3db gain from my 100 watt Icom 7300

Ug, $7250 is a bit too rich for my blood, and I have an FTdx-101MP with all the options. Maybe one day.
Nice video. I’m going to have to stay with Ameritron 811H for $1400. My fan isn’t too loud. Maybe it’s not strong enough! I only run about 500 watts.
I'm sure it's fine!

Yes, I have taken mine out a lot.. Probably the most used Acom 2000 in the world!

I know. Amazing.
If I bought one I hope it would measure the size of casket I would need once the wife found out.

I'm not buying an amplifier until I can buy THAT amplifier brand new.

OUCH, that amp goes for $7,300 , neat but definitely out of my budget
For us "little pistols" who do a bunch of S&P it's the best
What antenna do you use this linear amp on. Your 12.3 DX Commander as I know it is not rated for that many watts? I have the 12.3 73s De KD4MAN
12.4 will handle 1.5kW SSB easily.
