      I've done about 5000km on this bike now, 95% commuting to work. Great bike but derailleur hanger bends if it falls over in the wind.

    Nice riding. I'm looking forward to taking my Surly Straggler up there, it'll be a change from my full squish.

    Nice vid. Interesting how the CX rider is faster on the fast sections than the MTB rider but loses ground as soon as it gets rough. To be expected I suppose.

    I usually ride my non suspension hybrid with 37c tires down a few trails here in sweden, it's more fun than you'd expect. Yes you can't ride really rough DH terrain and yes it's not as comfortable as a full fledged DH suspension bike, but it's fun and really challenging which open your senses for certain obstacles that you woould otherwise just roll over on a MTB.
    The bike takes a lot more abuse than you would think like hitting an obstacle and the wheel goes a little untrue and other things so the bike often needs more care to prolong it's lifetime but I don't mind it. And also it doubles as a commuter bike which is a nice plus, though I would probably buy a specific road bike and MTB if I had the money cause then commuting and riding trails just gets more fun.

      Southern Yank no, try it, definitely. just dont forget flat bars. I know that dropper bars would b much more 'adventurous', but its safer.

      300pzl the tyres on a cx r surprisingly robust enough to endure a short dh trail

    I once rode my cx bike(with flat bars) down a dh trail.... damn it was sooooooo fun. definitely was a totally different experience from riding a mtb. The bike literally rattled underneath me, and I have no idea how me and my bike both survived. I think its something everyone should try, at least once. AND IF YOU'RE GOING TO ACTUALLY TRY IT, put flat bars on. seriously, it could save ur life.

      Google User When my brother was younger and he bought a Kona Shred MTB, my dad went to the bike trails with him once and rode around MTB trails on some cheap ass road bike. Now I'm wondering whether my fixed gear would survive it if I put thicker tyres on it and switch fixed to a single speed with lower ratio.

      yo, go for it man. Just survive and tell me how it went XD

    My dad doesnt want to buy another mtb, and he says he wants to use my old cx bike with flat bars on mtb trails. Can any1 tell me what I should do? Should I help him fix up the cx bike? Should I lend him my bike? Or should I convince him to buy a mtb?

      Creed Rickard first part is the traverse track from rapaki to Vic park, the second part is the flying nun at the top of Worsley's road.

    Why?
    Too many people buying Cyclocross bikes thinking they're a good all-round bike for road and off-road use. Truth is, you get a worse result for both disciplines.
    I didn't think a fellow Kiwi would ever fall to the anti-cultural incorrectness that is America...

      Not all people can always afford N+1 bikes. Cross bikes aren't great for anything, but it's versatile enough to be chosen by many as an n+0 bike. However, some might argue that a hardtail does better in that field.

    • @Metal-Possum
      @Metal-Possum 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Danial Arif Any mtb would be better. If I don't have a bike suitable for the mountains, I don't go up the mountains, simple as that. If you can't afford a second bike, then you can't afford the abuse you'd be giving a cross bike.

    • @danial_s
      @danial_s 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alex Paulsen you just have to deal with the fact that there's a great many people who are more adventurous than you. I ride mtb trails with a cross bike all the time. They're tougher than you might think. The people who founded mtb rode rigid bikes. With a mtb you will just feel out of place in a road group ride.

    • @Metal-Possum
      @Metal-Possum 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Danial Arif I still ride a rigid bike myself, single speed too. I also own a late '40's CCM from Canada, similar in style to the balloon tyre bikes people like Gary Fisher repopularised...

      I have 3 mountain bikes (trail, AM and DH), single speed road bike, and a monstercross/touring bike as well. No one needs your permission to take a CX bike for a blat around the hills. Enjoyment is what it is all about, not conforming to what you think the bike should be used for in a certain country.
