Mine was the original The Blob I was six years old. Back then traumatizing your children was normal. I 5hink I was about 12 when I saw this. It was pretty gory for the early 1970s.

The movie fizzled with this advertising in 1974, but was re-released in 1977 with the claw coming out of the baby carriage ads that terrified us 70's kids and it was a solid hit.
i remember seeing that infamous shot of the claw gripping the side of that carriage/bassinet, i was 7 or 8, just that pic alone caused me to have nightmares for years lol and yes, i was born in the 70s...
That's so funny. I remember the claw pic but thought that was a promo pic for Rosemary's Baby. Totally didn't realize it was for this movie!
2024 and it's on Netflix. Yeah I remember watching the 77 improved trailer. This one was so cheesy😂

Apparently they didn't know how to make trailers in the 70s.
Some trailers can be good in the 70s like Star Wars or Jaws
Larry Cohen said that Warner Bros. didn't want anything to do with the movie when he finished it. They thought it was in bad taste and basically buried it. This trailer is bad because they were trying to hide the subject matter. A few years later a different executive re-released it with a better ad campaign.

@@MiguelCruz-oz7km Interesting. It is a really bad trailer, though a lot of them in the seventies were. I wonder if trailers back then were made by different people than now. It seems like trailers then were made by numbskull admen with only the most cynical conceptions of the intelligence of the movie-going public, as in "yeah, screams and gunshots and a basso profundo, but hysterical voice-over should do the trick!"

Yeah I remember this movie and the sequel. That baby was the ugliest thing I had ever seen. This movie scared the shit outta me. My mother used to call my baby brother "It's Alive" when he would cry. Cause he would make the same face.

LOL that's how Larry Cohen got the idea because he heard a baby on a plane crying and he said the kid sounded "angry". So he made a film about a baby with the power to act out it's angry cry

I was 11 when this came out. Even at that tender age I recognized schlock when I saw it. My buddy and I laughed all this silliness.
On the other hand, we watched the Exorcist on the very new and amazing thing called Showtime. The Exorcist viewed on a tiny black and white TV scared the bejeebers out of us while this movie was a joke by comparison. It still is.
It's great if you view it as schlock. I watched this recently and I was laughing all throughout it. Couldn't believe this was viewed as "scary" back in the 70's.
This movie is a cult classic. That terrible remake needs to be for gotten. This movie had one of the best line endings in history. "Another one was born in Seattle"

I was 7 when my mother took me to see this..I was petrified and was afraid to sleep alone..
i took two younger cuzs to see this (i just got my permit) in a station wagon. it was at a drive in theater - mistake! we stopped at least twice to make sure nothing was in the back haha - at the time, very horrific movie - very well done. 1975.
I watched this on HBO in the early 80s and I remember freaking out. Would love to watch it again 😜

This movie is really good the lead actor is honesty too good but also the ideas presented and commentary just overall it’s a really good movie with so many talking points which is so odd considering how and silly/dumb and over the top the movie could also be interpreted. Larry Cohen was a genius

When my mom was in high school they would watch horror movies for halloween and this was the film they saw and it terrified everyone.

I hounded my folks to let me go to movies a convenient babysitter as two theatres were a couple blocks away. My friends and I would stare at the posters and spin stories about them. I became obsessed with seeing Forbidden Planet but it was only showing at the drive in just outside of town. Naturally I manipulated them to take us. I was somewhat traumatized. In my six year old mind, the robot was suspicious and the poster with Robby carrying Anne Francis played into this perception.

In 1977 I worked with a guy who spontaneously went into an imitation of the radio ad for this film "There's only one thing wrong with the _________ baby... It's alive!" and then he'd cry like a baby and we'd all laugh.
LMAOO I saw this when it came out at the cinema in 1974 at Tottenham Court Road in London. I was 17. It was so bad it was good, scary but funny. I'd love to watch it again.

Yes "Its Alive" is repeated many times. This was the style and also saturation technique used at this time as there was limited exposure to the consumer and this may be the only one time they see the trailer.

It would be kind of brilliant if they made a movie where all the dialogue referenced some non-descript "thing", and all the action scenes were just cops firing guns off screen.
I named my fantasy football team after this movie. "Stop firing, stop firing!" Is the funniest line in this trailer..., you see the firepower necessary to slow mutant killer baby down! It's enough to make a baby feel insecure and unwanted. "Hi Dad.." "Bang!, bang!, pow! bang,!"

So the main theme of this movie is that It's Alive
not sure whether this is sarcastic, because the trailer is... err, weird (but many of them were back in the 70's). The whole point of the story is precisely the fact that this genetically mutated baby is alive, and it bothers everyone : police wants to kill it because it's a murderous monster, scientists want to kill it before anyone notices it was their chemical medication that provoked the mutation, the father wants to kill it because his ego is massively hurt by this oddity... and the mother becomes crazy because of her maternal instinct, she wants to keep it alive because it's her child. And despite the movie being a bit... bad, the end is enormous, with the angry macho wife-slapping rifle-wielding father coming face-to-face with it, and realizing that it is his child too, while crying every tear in his body... and that he wants it to be alive after all. Myself being the father of a somewhat "different" child, (autistic tendencies), i totally empathize

When I was a kid I was born in 69 but I remember this I think I seen that picture on a book of these claws that looked like a sloth and I was more horrified by this than anything else in the world!!!

Not trying to act like I'm a tough guy, but it takes a lot to scare me so I guess the only movies that sort of did were The Exorcist and The Ring. It's alive doesn't count because I was like 6. All I remember was the baby being born and all the nurses and doctors mangled up covered in blood and dead! Thanks Mom! 😂 LOLGuess it could have been worse if let's say George Thorogood made a movie to the first part of Bad to the bone! Now on the day I was born the nurses all gathered around they gazed in wild wonder at the joy they had found the head nurse spoke up said leave this one alone she could tell right away I was bad to the bone! Unreal!!!
