You only fail the run if you CAN still use the rules set to get through. which if you are solo in the party in this case then no you would not lose the run as you had to do this to progress.
@@feraldruidsftw01 Look even at those who play several hours in several games or who stays at home or works or studies. We can't stop walking to warm up and work out on the side. sedentary is something terrible in everyone, I myself once went to the hospital for not walking daily.
@@WaItenir WTF are you even talking about? my comment had nothing against physically running or anything. it had to do with the task aka the "run" of beating FF 13 with out dealing any damage as the character that the player is controlling. please use some insight into understand what is being commented on and how before putting your foot into your mouth.
Hey, FF13 speedrunner here! Great video, loved it! Here's a few little neat tips/tricks: - For the Ushu 2 fight with solo Hope, you can just let it kill you. - Having buffs applies during Eidolon fights certainly helps, because it increases your conditional chain modifiers (which are extremely important in Eidolon fights), but re-buffing them when already applies doesn't do anything! However, re-applying debuffs that you've already inflicted DOES increase gestalt (very good on Hecatoncheir), since infliction contributes to chain. AI SABs will not attempt to cast debuff spells on targets that they've already applied them to, however. - For the party setup question, I'd probably have gone with the standard speedrun party of Sazh/Snow/Vanille, as Vanille's Imperil and other debuffs are absolutely busted (especially when paired with Bravery/Faith/Enspell), Snow's damage output tends to be higher than Fang's (plus he has RAV as a primary role), and being able to manually control Sazh's SYN is great. For a challenge like this, I would also probably get Sazh's Cure (for the low price of 21000 CP...) and optionally Snow's SYN for access to Protect and Shell. Vanille's COM is also quite nice if you want to fork over the massive amount of CP to get her Ruin. - Fun fact about the Hecatoncheir fight - Vanille's Provoke (in SEN) actually builds gestalt. Yeah, that's a thing, it's also really slow, but it exists. Also, Eidolons don't actually have health per se, so things that just straight up increase your damage aren't much help. - When you got to the Wladislaus and Sanctum Templar fight, it could have been avoided by activating a secret elevator in the top-left corner of the room (the large square area) ;) - The first time Progenitorial Wrath is cast, it will always target a MED or a SEN. After that it's random. Fun mechanic Square, thanks! :) - The ATB refresh mechanic you discovered during Orphan 2 is awesome! The way it works is, the first paradigm shift of a fight grants the whole party a full ATB bar. After that, you can gain more refreshes by shifting paradigms 12 seconds (in-game time) or more after your last shift. This is why you may have seen in speedruns, we'll often have two of the same paradigm - the ability to ATB refresh into the same paradigm can give you crazy potential with damage, chaining, etc. All in all, fantastic video and I had a blast watching it. Thanks for making this!
A minor correction: recasting a synergist buff absolutely increases gestalt gauge in eidolon battles. The bar increases by 2% times the summon multiplier, which ranges from 0.6 for Brynhilder to 1.45 for Odin
Great comment to read! Is there a site or page that has all these small intricacies documented? FFXIII is one my favourites, and I'd love to read about these mechanics I'd never have found.
@@Rissole these mechanics can be found in the ultimania, or translated in the Game Mechanics faq on gamefaqs. The ultimania also has of cool story details such as the evolution of the lcie brands for all the characters in each chapter
@@Rissole The Game Mechanics Guide on GameFAQs honestly is probably your best bet, we use it for a lot of our testing in the speedrunning community. That being said, it has its fair share of things that are wrong or inaccurate...
True its the best in the series easily its nice to see that there's something everyone can praise about this game Its not exactly a hard thing to achieve tho since pretty much every battle theme besides like 4,6,15s kinda are not memorable.
Just found your videos and really enjoy your dry sense of humor. "A plate of forged iron or steel worn over a coat of mail to protect the shoulder. Oh well I suppose that makes sense."
Absolutely adore FFXIII. It was my first FF game, so a little biased, but I just absolutely adored the game so much and still do! I remember playing it on the Xbox 360, and the game was on 3 separate discs which was something I had never seen before and that blew my mind. I didn't really understand most of the mechanics in the game (as I was like, 12 at the time) and I never actually beat the final boss because of it, but I still had so much fun with it. It will always hold a special place in my heart, and this video actually got me to finally download it (and eventually the sequels) after having them sitting in my steam library for like a year, just so I can properly re-experience the game (and actually beat the final boss this time).
Everyone loves playing as Fang. I've never been bothered by the linearity. I agree with your thoughts on the story telling. So much good lore; so easy to miss!
@@overcross7669 they are not on PS4, LIKE SAID THEY DIDNT GET ONE FOR PS4 X1. If you mean the paid stream thing thats different from getting a rerelease
When XIII first came out I beat the game pretty much only using auto battle because I was young and dumb, and hated it. I tried it again last year after learning how to play it and loved the gameplay. It's so underrated. The ATB thing you were talking about at 57 minutes is ATB Refresh. The first time you switch paradigms and then every 16 seconds after (I think) everyone gets a full ATB. It's so powerful and makes the game a lot faster and easier.
Oh I didn't realise "ATB Refresh" had a name! 100% agree the game is underrated. I don't expect many people will actually watch this video, it's too niche haha.
Yeah, there was so much going on with "WAAAAAAAAAAA DA GAM PLAYS ITSELF WAAAAAAA GAME BAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDD" to make you go made several times over. If you actually engage with what the game gives you outside that, you can play the game better than the auto-battle, and have a lot of fun with it!
Yeah I dunno about auto battle the entire game. There are definitely points in the game where you would have either had to grind for hours or do a little more than auto battle.
I absolutely love FFXIII. Lost track of how many times I have played it. Once I can pick the leader, Hope is always the leader. His magic is superb and he is a powerhouse in late game. I have Snow for the high HP and Lightning cause I just adore her.
I feel the need to point out a couple things with the Eidolon fights: Generally speaking, doing damage isn't the intended way of raising the Gestalt meter. The gestalt meter is affected by the amount of stagger an attack has and another modifier unique to each fight, essentially relegating your effective roles to Ravager and [x] role depending on the fight. To that end the role that gives the most meter is actually based off of where the character is in their own arc within the story. - For Snow, he continues to charge ahead with no thought, so to impress the Shiva Sisters he has to use Sentinel to take a step back and defend instead of rushing in blindly like usual. - For Lightning, she's taking actions to reach her goal without regards for the people that her actions are hurting. As a result impressing Odin relies upon her taking up the role of Medic, healing Hope (who is ultimately the person most affected by her actions). Needless to say the others follow suit with similar circumstances.
Yee i loved that. Lightning strength is Raveger. Another thing i want to add to your comments is putting her on commander during her time with Hope. Aside from the gaming needing one, it also meant she had to get beat up and take the hits to protect Hope.
Wait.. so nobody else knew about the frustration animations? Oh wow, it was one of my favorite touches from the first game! I was so disappointed they didn't bring it back for the sequels.
I don't think i ever realized, i probably triggered once or twice but i played the whole way as lightning, and you know, lightning being grumpy is just how the world works
It works better if you rapidly rotate the analog stick as opposed to Left/Right. But yeah I found those Day 1 too lol -- always had this weird habit of trying to make characters spin around.
Was shocked to see you only have around 2k subs. Your vids are such good quality I thought you'd have way more. Keep up the great content 👏 MASSIVE DAMAGE
Thank you so much, I appreciate the encouragement! Comments like yours encourage me to keep uploading! :) I think if I ever passed 10k I'd fall off my chair in disbelief. The journey so far has been crazy!
I tried to play XIII again a while ago and I was wondering why I didn't enjoy it until I realized that my problem isn't the fact that the world is so linear, which would mean I'd have the same problem with X, but the fact that there's barely any npcs, the world doesn't feel nearly lively enough for my tastes.
That's understandable. But it kinda is meant for the party to be isolated and feared as LCie for story reasons. I think they tried to improve that or the story took a shift that meant theu could interact with NPCs in -2 and LR. It makes sense in XIII to have little intercation with civilian/npc tho.
I tried to replay it and my personal gripe with it was that the game forces you to run around with lass than a full party for the longest time. My problem is, that as in most Final Fantasy games, I didn't like most of the characters. I don't care what Sazh is up to, Hope annoys me. Just let me put together the party of characters I care for and enjoy the game.
That Bahamut fight getting to "0" doom, and still winning is incredibly impressive. Would love to see some kind of XIII-2 challenge run. (good luck with the PC version though)
@@RPGchallengeruns Cheers good sir! Looking forward to future content. Also Final Fantasy Tactics. Don't sleep on it ;) solo Ramza + no random encounters?
Delighted to find this video! XIII is my favorite FF despite its less than stellar story presentation (always felt that its character and gameplay made up for it). Cheers!
Appreciate the kind words! Growth has been kinda slow since we hit 1k, but I think that's because I only upload once a month. Shame RPGs are so damn long!! Haha. Cheers!
57:47 For anyone interested, how that hidden game mechanic there works is if you paradigm shift after using 2 full atb bars (your side characters don't have to use all of theirs afaik) you start with a full bar. The new full bar counts as the one of the two needed for the reset, so you basic only have to wait for the bar to recharge once, shift, reset. You can do this indefinitely to get double turns every other full atb gauge charge. It's an absolute game changer. Edit: almost forgot. The atb bars don't all have to be used in the same turn, but you have to use the total amount of 2 of your current max atb. The reason it's janky to time it on side characters is because sometimes they will not use 1 charge of their bar in a turn, so the requirement for the reset isn't met.
I love this game man. The story is IMPECCABLE. I adore the characters, the music is great, and the paradigm battle system makes for one of the most kinetic and exciting combat systems I've seen in an RPG. It's a truly unique and awesome experience.
HIGHLY interested in a remaster for this game. Or really anything that gets it on modern consoles Edit: the characters get mad when you go side to side because you’re only supposed to move forward in this game
This is an interesting challenge. I don’t like the story of FF13 like that but I do like the battle system and Saber’s Edge as a boss theme is Chef’s kiss
I love this game perhaps more than I "should," with the Eidolon bosses being some of my personal highlights due to the unique nature of the Gestalt meter rewarding smart play and timing. I think the game gets a lot of flak because people were expecting something they didn't get, and a lot of people didn't really try to meet the game where it was at. There are a lot of really fascinating games that suffer from the expectations of their assumed audience. I can't fault people for not wanting to invest time into something that doesn't immediately grab them: our time is limited and there's only so much we can invest it in. It's just unfortunate how some great stories and experiences can get lost in the shuffle because of that. Really cool video, genuinely surprised that you can finish the game with so little direct attacking. Also, about Sazh's age, just check out pictures of 40 year old black men and it becomes less surprising how young he looks.
That's a really good point about time investment. It's why a lot of people avoid MMORPGs sadly, because they don't want to have to wait 100s of hours for the game to tell its story.
Took me over a decade to realize, after searching for answers, but to no avail, that when Lightning is facing that specific door and asks to be let in, she wasn't talking to the door, she was speaking with Serah. This video is a lot of fun, thank you for keeping ffxiii fresh!🎉
You're a strong person. I'm still doing my first playthrough of this game several years later...granted I'm taking my time. Definitely a challenge but rewarding game imo. I'd love to see you do this with 13-2. I think it definitely is possible and fun.
I really like XIII, especially because of the battle system and the aesthetic. I'm into linear games so I really don't mind, it's kinda like watching a movie. My biggest criticism is the weapon upgrade system, it's really underwhelming
Yeah I think that's a fair criticism. There's just not enough upgrade materials unless you do all of the optional endgame content really. Maybe that's something they could fix in the Remaster (whenever that ends up happening!!). Thanks for watching! :)
These challenges are pretty interesting and I am very interested to see what else you'll manage to pull off in the future. I liked FF13 and Sazh is one of my favorite characters in the franchise. The music in this game is absolutely fantastic and it combined with your commentary made this video a joy to listen to.
I am a fellow FF13 enjoyer. I never once saw the linearity of the game as an issue. In fact, when I first played the game it was extremely refreshing to play something where the pacing of both story and gameplay challenge was so tightly controlled. As a completionist player I often actually dread things like towns in RPGs where the gameplay consists of running around extracting dialogue from NPCs for often far too long, even when I want to be jumping back into combat or progressing the main story over side-content that can often feel like filler. And then of course, because I've done all the optional content, I end up being overlevelled for the main story. (I know I don't HAVE to do optional content, but it genuinely feels like crap design if you're expecting the player to deliberately ignore content.) I feel like FF7R is a good example of something that really is still very linear and enjoyable while also feeling much less linear thanks to a handful of "sidequests" that most people won't skip and some more open areas. I can see why FF13 gets a knee-jerk reaction from its linearity but I can't wrap my head around how that makes it a game not well worth playing.
I liked this game, too. I mean initially, the auto battle seemed bad but further in, I came to see that the combat is more about paradigm shifts, stagger, buff timing, and debuffs. I came to really love the dance the combat became.
Finally finished! Absolute joy to watch, very entertaining nostalgia trip for a game I feel weird saying I have nostalgia for... And that choice to use dispelga in the final bossfight was clutch!
Congrats on surviving that super long video! I think it was the longest one so far. Thanks for the kind words - glad you enjoyed your nostalgia trip! :)
The fun thing about the Crystarium System, pointing it out whether or not we all noticed it, is that the CP you gained with ANY team during Part 2 is distributed to EVERYONE, even if they're doing their own Chapter. It's why Snow is always first to max his kit first.
Those loading screen story beats are all laid out in the Datalog story section BTW. If one opens up the datalog at the start of the game and dismisses all of the excaimation points for the gameplay and such, and check what's added to the datalog every time the little notification pops up saying "Datalog has been updated!" you can find all of those interesting story descriptions without having to reload the game. Not to mention when you're doing quests on Gran Pulse, there will be some interesting lore blurps just for the funsies. I'm glad seeing Hope get some love as your main party member. He's super useful with his fast casting speed, his elemental buffs and wards, and his ultimate move Last Resort is just straight up the Holy spell. His only downside is that his health is the lowest of all the party members - Max Crystarium stats have him at 18k compared to Snow at 30k. He's one of my favorite characters in terms of story too, as a kid who's understandably dealing with a lot of life-changing events and having to mature past his own biases into one of the calmest and smartest party members at 14 years old. The battle system in 13 is genuinely fun. The paradigms, the passive buffs, the accessories, the TP abilities, the ATB trick - it's all a careful game of setting up, prioritizing damage and buffing/debuffing, the staggering system of magic vs physical damage, switching on the fly to survive and make progress in the tougher optional fights. You can see how much can change in a battle just from getting the chance to change your paradigms and equipment when you have a forced party. The enemies do scale with you to an extent, even if you get OP, and if you just try spamming attacks without strategizing, the game is genuinely a lot harder. It's a relatively low-stakes game if you play it for fun, but it can be a great challenge and a strategic exercise if you go for a more difficult approach. My only problem is the whole money issue - why would battles not net me all the cash in the world? Thank goodness for Bhakti. In Orphan's cradle against that duo you had to dodge: that area has two paths up - one of which is an elevator at the far corner opposite of the ramp. There'll still be encounters, but it's arguably the easier path. The elevator is so well hidden because it's just one of the same tiles as the rest of the Cradle, with a few sparkly wisps to indicate it'll take you somewhere if you stand on it. In the Orphan 2.0 battle, you can prevent the Spactime Vorbal whatever nonsense by putting on fewer buffs/debuffs, since it's main trigger is to eliminate all the character buffs and Orphan's debuffs, and the stagger being reset is just insult to injury. It's real annoying if you're like me and used Syn/Sab to wreck enemies through the entire game. Not really relevant to the challenge, but the Havoc Skytank battle, Lightning is forced as your party leader, but she is actually capable of attacking the Skytank because she has a GUNblade. She will unleash a whole combo of 4 bullets in rapid succession if you force her to, despite the Auto-battle prioritizing Ruin even if your Attack is maxed out with accessories and Crystarium. I love 13 because I'm a lover of linear story-telling and I will defend the character development with my life. So long as you came here to have a good time, 13 is great fun and I'm glad to see a challenge run coming out of it.
Loving this challenge run! This is my favorite FF game, and I actually really enjoy the linearity pushing the story along. The paradigm system is fluid, fast, and gives all of the roles usefulness. I enjoy delving into that battlesystem. The music and locations create a stunning world, and I love the characters, especially Hope. One of my great joys in this game is putting my resources into Hope's Hawkeye as soon as possible. I think I had it up to like level 16 in Gapra Whitewood last time, and it brought his magic stat to 253. One of my fellow Hope and FF13 fans refers to Hope as a tactical nuke. She loves the challenge of maining him as party leader in the game whenever possible.
I personally love 13. My only issue with it is the fact that many of the boss fights are in situations where it's hard as hell to grind if you aren't already strong enough for them. When I was like 14 I made like seven different save files when I got soft locked on Bosses at different parts of it.
I'm pretty sure I've read about that Easter egg mentioned at 29:25. I had to boot up the game to confirm what I remembered about it. Rather than awkwardly jerking the characters back and forth, it's much more consistent if you spin the left analog stick in circles, and I believe the whole thing is sort of in reference to how people like to spin their characters while idling for one reason or another. Because of the way movement in FF13 doesn't let you turn on a dime, though, on video it appears as though your character is just sort of doing a weird confused motion. Also I'm seeing this video 13 days after it was posted. Nice
Brilliant video. Love the commentary. Thank you so much for all the hard work. I did like FF13. It was a pity it was linier for a long while, but the graphics are something else and the story and characters are nice. I liked FF12 more (absolutely love your video on that challenge as well!. Keep up the grand work, best of luck
Yoo this was a really fun video to watch! I bought ff13 a while back on steam because we don'thave a ps3 anymore and I tried doing a run where you manually choose the abilities. So much more fun! Cuz when lightning attacks once with her sword, she does a backflip, and timing that right to dodge an attack is reall satisfying. Also using 1 atb ruin to move backwards really far (blindside iirc). That helps protect you from aoe damages sometimes Maybe you could do a ff15 run where you have to only do a support role for noctis while the rest does the fighting? Orix it with a no healing items run since those are broken 💀
Lightning and Fang are two of my favorite women in gaming and absolute badass role models for me. Women who don't take anyone's nonsense and use their own physicality to do what they believe in. Biggest fan
Bruh, Lightning was inadvertently grooming a kid to stab her own brother-in-law (whom she also assaults frequently). Her whole character arc in 13 is realizing she is a *_shite_* role model for Hope to follow and then getting her act together at the end.
@@Princess_Ruto You're only listing positive things. Because she was in the position to take care of someone, she could relate to another person like she did the sister she raised from her teens on her own. She realized that letting people in improves her life. People like Lightning exist in the real world and they become so jaded and distant precisely for the same reasons she did. But if, even if through hardship, they see commonality between others and people they care about or even themselves, they can break free from the apathy they thought they needed to survive. When Lightning realized where her words and actions were leading Hope, she turned on a dime to correct her behavior. She saw the anger and need to lash out that she felt when her parents died, she saw the vulnerability her sister felt as a newly orphaned child. Once she could do that, she was able to do the same for Snow, who she disliked so much. That's pretty admirable to me.
@@FarronMoon It sounds like you get the message. I'm happy you're able to find something inspirational in Lightning's moral development. I just think "role model" is a _strong_ word to be using in the context of this particular character, and it's only when she _stops_ trying too hard to be a "no-nonsense hyperphysical badass" that she cultivates some redeeming qualities.
@Princess Ruto she never stops being a no nonsense badass. She just changes how she presents it somewhat. Also, role models aren't perfect and never should be considered such so no its not a strong word simply because you find reason to not see her as perfect. She's one of the more real characters in the franchise.
I would say that yes, your challenge run definitely ended early on. But your commentary was entertaining enough I decided to give the rest of the video a watch. :D
I came to watch your other videos after getting recommended your FF12 video and I really enjoy your editing style! It is sad to see FF13 get the short end of the stick by fans but I hope people change their minds in the future if it ever gets re-released.
This game is pretty cool, it has a lot of ideas and you can tell the developers cared a lot about it It would be nice if it got a remaster or remake I love the massive damage moments in the video
This was really fun to watch! Interestingly when this game came out, I fell off it right AFTER reaching Gran Pulse, even though I was happy the gameplay opened up so much. Did anyone else do that?
Support Player here Love seeing this run of FF13, game wise the linearity isnt much of an issue, the thing i hate is that we cant go back to previous places, e.g. Sunleth Waterscape, and changing leaders at so late at the game. Anyway, i myself use combo of Hope/Vanille/Snow and usually interchange leader between Hope and Vanille. Playing a support is hectic but I like using MED, SYN and SAB. I don't why the playthroughs I saw they almost never use MED or SYN, just letting the AI use it
Great video ^^ FFXIII is a great game!! Just came out at a bad time when everyone was expecting a big open world game since that was all the hype for RPGs back then. Then when XV comes out and it's open world, people still dislike it for that reason :P Now VII Remake came out and is just as linear as XIII yet it's pretty unanimously enjoyed so I guess we've come full circle. I call it the FFXII effect, where everyone says it sucks on release but after 10+ years and it (hopefully) releases again, people realize it's a great game, just different.
Haha yeah, some people just love to complain about anything! Maybe it's because FF is so varied now, that everyone has their own idea of what a FF game "should" be.
Oh sweet that's an interesting idea for a run. 13 is one of my favorite games to do challenge runs in. Another idea to try would be beating the game using only one paradigm at a time.
@@RPGchallengeruns I just thought of another one I'm going to try. Using only the party leader in combat by using a cheat table to remove party members from battle.
That early grind spot was actually mentioned in the strategy guide. So you finding it on your own is still impressive :) Also, I'm totally fine with the linear game. However, why ffx did it better is because a lot of the linear zones, especially early on, have life going on. People walking around. Colorful zones. And so on, so it "feels" not as linear. It's all about the illusion. FF13, unfortunately, hardly does any of that.
It's more because people fool themselves into it not being linear because they run back and forth on certain parts of the line, going backwards on the line doesn't make it less of a line but it's easier to trick ourselves if it doesn't get to repetitive. There are plenty of things that move around and can be seen or change in FF13. But it usually doesn't run you back and forth in the same spot much. Particularly in the first half of the game. Things are mostly moving forward and trying to convey a sense of urgency.
I dunno why everyone gives ff13 the most linear hate when ff10 is just as linear and has just the same “leveling” system in the form of spheres. But to each their own. Both are great games.
20:29 Last night, I go to sleep partway into this video. Today, I wake up and press play, perfectly timed to watch the thumbnail change into the same image of lightning in the video.
This was the fastest hour ever lol. I watched this randomly from seeing it in my recommended tab and bruh this is a great video I lost track of time watching the whole thing😂.
I'm loving these challenge runs. I enjoyed FFXIII but the feeling of being stuck on train tracks with no diverting the whole way and only really opening up to more variety with extra quests, world map, etc right at the end really caused it to suffer compared to the others. Its a gorgeous game, and the musical score was lovely. Not sure if this is an interesting run for you, or if its been done before, but FFVII with no materia? Or some other variation, FFVII was my first final fantasy game and I have a lot of love for it.
Thanks for the kind words. :) I think someone might have already done a no-materia run, but I'd be up for putting my own spin on it if people wanna see it!
Interestingly, all you had to do for Orphan P1 is let your AI teammate Vanille sabatour and cast Poison. This debuff single-handily murders Orphan, because it inflicts % max health damage. The boss' health bar literally can't stop going down while that debuff persists and you're home free to just do literally nothing. Meanwhile, if you wanted to cheese, Orphan P2 is surprisingly weak to the Death spell when it is staggered.
Great vid. I'll never fight Wladislaus again without imagining a cat walking across a keyboard. XIII is definitely my guilty pleasure. Can't wait for your next vid
I was quite ill while recording this, soooo... I'm sorry!

Melhoras irmão. Que você se recupere.
Thanks for replaying it for me.
Hey, FF13 speedrunner here! Great video, loved it! Here's a few little neat tips/tricks:
- For the Ushu 2 fight with solo Hope, you can just let it kill you.
- When you got to the Wladislaus and Sanctum Templar fight, it could have been avoided by activating a secret elevator in the top-left corner of the room (the large square area) ;)
- The first time Progenitorial Wrath is cast, it will always target a MED or a SEN. After that it's random. Fun mechanic Square, thanks! :)
- The ATB refresh mechanic you discovered during Orphan 2 is awesome!
Wow that's all super interesting. Thanks for your insights! I LOVE the speedrunning community, you guys are awesome people.
The battle theme slaps so hard
100% agree!!
Personally, it is my favorite out of all of them.
I love the music in this game, I just wish the combat was more challenging.
The XIII trilogy always had a god tier soundtrack.
True its the best in the series easily its nice to see that there's something everyone can praise about this game
Its not exactly a hard thing to achieve tho since pretty much every battle theme besides like 4,6,15s kinda are not memorable.
I'm about half way through, and Snow causing most of the fails is pretty on brand, honestly
Freakin' Snow, honestly! XD
He is the worst
The music in final fantasy 13 just makes me want to go out on an adventure with some friends especially serahs theme 😢
So true!!
I bought the soundtrack on vinyl record last month and it sounds even more gorgeous.
"We're using Deceptisols and pretending all the enemies have COVID." I laughed my ass off at that.
😆
The story and lore of this game (and trilogy) is so top notch! Overall i like 13 more than 15 or 16
Light: "I'll do whatever it takes to save Serah as non-violently as possible!"
Haha that's so true 😆
Just found your videos and really enjoy your dry sense of humor. "A plate of forged iron or steel worn over a coat of mail to protect the shoulder. Oh well I suppose that makes sense."
Glad to have you on board! 👍
I LOVE FF13 and I really enjoyed the trilogy! You rock with that challenge!
Thanks :) See you in the next one!
I love how Blinded By Light is the only fight theme outside bosses and and a few select other fights
I mean, it's a banging tune so I'm happy with that! 😀
Yeah Fang is awesome! Thanks for coming along for the ride! :)
I’ve always loved the FF13 games! I’m glad so many people are starting to appreciate them now.
Same! Judging by the comments here it seems like there's still a lot of love for the FF13 trilogy. :)
I love the game despite the linearity, I only wish the lore wasn't expressed mainly through datalogs
Yes! I hope they get a remaster! It was sad and odd they didnt get one for PS4/X1 considering X XII did and XIII holds up so well visually
@@SemekiIzuio they already have remasters (at least on pc, I think they’re also on ps4 at least tho)
I think it's actually 12 I time it by doing two full turns and usually it's ready by then
Yeah, there was so much going on with "WAAAAAAAAAAA DA GAM PLAYS ITSELF WAAAAAAA GAME BAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDD" to make you go made several times over. If you actually engage with what the game gives you outside that, you can play the game better than the auto-battle, and have a lot of fun with it!
Yeah I dunno about auto battle the entire game. There are definitely points in the game where you would have either had to grind for hours or do a little more than auto battle.
@Alexis Auld the complaints I always ran into was how linear it is. When it's not the first linear FF game and it does a lot more that's unique.
I absolutely love FFXIII. Lost track of how many times I have played it. Once I can pick the leader, Hope is always the leader. His magic is superb and he is a powerhouse in late game. I have Snow for the high HP and Lightning cause I just adore her.
Great team setup! It's nice to hear there are people who geneuinly enjoy this game - there's so much hate for the game online.
I feel the need to point out a couple things with the Eidolon fights:
Generally speaking, doing damage isn't the intended way of raising the Gestalt meter.
This a nice expanded version, thanks for sharing the extra info!
Wait.. so nobody else knew about the frustration animations? Oh wow, it was one of my favorite touches from the first game! I was so disappointed they didn't bring it back for the sequels.
Not according to that article I read, and TBH I didn't know about them either haha. They're certainly a fun addition though! :)
Yeah, thought the same! I found this out all the way back in the Grapa Whitewood, when the game came out, lol
Was shocked to see you only have around 2k subs. Your vids are such good quality I thought you'd have way more. Keep up the great content 👏 MASSIVE DAMAGE
Thank you so much, I appreciate the encouragement! Comments like yours encourage me to keep uploading! :)
I think if I ever passed 10k I'd fall off my chair in disbelief.
That's fair. At least you gave it a shot! :)
Yeah that Bahamut fight was super lucky!! :O
Yeah FFXIII-2 is amazing, definitely worth doing in the future! Cheers!

For anyone interested, how that hidden game mechanic there works is if you paradigm shift after using 2 full atb bars (your side characters don't have to use all of theirs afaik) you start with a full bar.
Great vid, you've earned a new subscriber. Loved the MASSIVE DAMAGE, so here is a MASSIVE like. Keep it up
I love this game man. The story is IMPECCABLE. I adore the characters, the music is great, and the paradigm battle system makes for one of the most kinetic and exciting combat systems I've seen in an RPG. It's a truly unique and awesome experience.
absolutelyy
"Wait, he's forty?!"
Black don't crack, man. Black don't crack.
😂😂
HIGHLY interested in a remaster for this game. Or really anything that gets it on modern consoles
Edit: the characters get mad when you go side to side because you’re only supposed to move forward in this game
This is an interesting challenge. I don’t like the story of FF13 like that but I do like the battle system and Saber’s Edge as a boss theme is Chef’s kiss
That's a fair summary. I wish more of the story was in the actual game and not locked behind read-only datalogs in the menu. Gameplay is great though!
Never thought I'd see a pacifist challenge on one of my favourite games, great job!!
Thanks for the kind words, hope you enjoyed it! ^^
Ahh that makes sense. Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate you coming along for the ride! :)
Lol that tutorial battle got me hella hard. And yes I agree with you. Ff13 is in my top 3 favorite FF of all time.
As someone that had tried this game and didn’t like it, I appreciate the Monty Python Holy Grail reference you made in the beginning. A job well done.
Thanks, you're very kind!
Absolutely love Monty Python!
You're a strong person. I'm still doing my first playthrough of this game several years later...granted I'm taking my time. Definitely a challenge but rewarding game imo. I'd love to see you do this with 13-2. I think it definitely is possible and fun.
Oops, sorry if I spoiled the bosses for you!! :(
@@RPGchallengeruns oh no u didn't at all hahah. Helped me mentally prepare for it
So glad you like this game one of my favourites! Although saying that i say that about every ff i play and have only played 7-10 and 13 😂
I'd definitely recommend FF12. Maybe I'm biased because it was the first JRPG I ever played, but I'd highly recommend it! 😀
Thanks for the kind words! Totally agree that the soundtrack to this game is INCREDIBLE! Can't wait to hear it on vinyl record.
(I know I don't HAVE to do optional content, but it genuinely feels like crap design if you're expecting the player to deliberately ignore content.)
I feel like FF7R is a good example of something that really is still very linear and enjoyable while also feeling much less linear thanks to a handful of "sidequests" that most people won't skip and some more open areas. I can see why FF13 gets a knee-jerk reaction from its linearity but I can't wrap my head around how that makes it a game not well worth playing.
I agree. It's a very focused experience without many distractions and with a very polished battle system.
You raise some good points - having too little linearity can sometimes be a problem too. Hope you check out our future runs! :)
I liked this game, too. I mean initially, the auto battle seemed bad but further in, I came to see that the combat is more about paradigm shifts, stagger, buff timing, and debuffs. I came to really love the dance the combat became.
That's actually a great comparison. Maybe people would have been happier if Auto Battle unlocked during the late-game as a time saver?
Very true! It's really handy.
Glad you mentioned the characters, they're so unique and interesting. I don't think I could pick a favourite!
Thanks for the kind words. :)
I personally love 13. My only issue with it is the fact that many of the boss fights are in situations where it's hard as hell to grind if you aren't already strong enough for them. When I was like 14 I made like seven different save files when I got soft locked on Bosses at different parts of it.
That's true, grinding is almost impossible in some areas.
I'm glad I'm not alone in my love for FF13. Brilliant video
It seems there are a lot more fans than I previously thought. So much love for this game in the comments here! :)

Thanks for the kind words. Hope to see you in the next one! :)
Nice
I messed around with it when I first played it, I don't see why anyone would report that it is "new"
Hope you don't suffer from triskaidekaphobia!!
Brilliant video. Love the commentary. Thank you so much for all the hard work.

That helps protect you from aoe damages sometimes
Maybe you could do a ff15 run where you have to only do a support role for noctis while the rest does the fighting? Orix it with a no healing items run since those are broken 💀
Thanks for the kind words! :)
Yep, FF15 is definitely on the to-do list!
I'm glad so many people are discovering a like for XIII and being open about ir.
Wow I haven't seen Orphan 2 use that many moves since my first playthrough years ago
Haha yeah he's normally quite a quick fight!
Lightning and Fang are two of my favorite women in gaming and absolute badass role models for me. Women who don't take anyone's nonsense and use their own physicality to do what they believe in. Biggest fan
Agreed, inspirational characters!
Thanks, I'm glad you stayed for the full experience! 😀
One thing that I always loved from FFXIII is the "sunleth waterscape" Ost, the slower version to be exact
Mhm also the portion before you reach Oerba and the Tower
Yes! One of the best gaming tracks of all time, in my opinion.

I was one of those persons that spoke to their screen
Love the content man, keep it up
USHUMGAL SUBJUGATOR!!!!!!!!! :D

I came to watch your other videos after getting recommended your FF12 video and I really enjoy your editing style! It is sad to see FF13 get the short end of the stick by fans but I hope people change their minds in the future if it ever gets re-released.
Thanks for the kind words! :)
Yep, same. I think a lot of people would really appreciate a remaster.
Confession heard, accepted, and loved. I like FFXIII too. Not as much as a few other games in the series, but it's still really good.
This game is pretty cool, it has a lot of ideas and you can tell the developers cared a lot about it
It would be nice if it got a remaster or remake
I love the massive damage moments in the video
**MASSIVE DAMAGE!!**
My favorite ff game to-date. It needs a remaster now fr
Totally agree!!
This was really fun to watch! Interestingly when this game came out, I fell off it right AFTER reaching Gran Pulse, even though I was happy the gameplay opened up so much. Did anyone else do that?
Interesting, yeah a few other people have been saying that in the comments. Gran Pulse can be overwhelming, I suppose.
I loved Gran Pulse. It felt like the game finally gets you off the training wheels and leaves you on your own.

Love seeing this run of FF13, game wise the linearity isnt much of an issue, the thing i hate is that we cant go back to previous places, e.g.
After FF12 the 13 series are my favorite FF Games FFT is my all time favorite though.
Great choices!
Oh sweet that's an interesting idea for a run. 13 is one of my favorite games to do challenge runs in. Another idea to try would be beating the game using only one paradigm at a time.
That's actually a really cool idea! I'll add it to the list!
@@RPGchallengeruns I just thought of another one I'm going to try. Using only the party leader in combat by using a cheat table to remove party members from battle.
My second time watching this run (considering trying it myself) and it just hit me I never even knew 13 had an easy mode…
I just found your chanel and i love your videos! Id love to see you take on some crazy FF8 Challenge! Cheers
Thanks, you're very kind!! 😀
Watching snow just sat there on his bike in palumpolum 🤣🤣🤣🤣
ive watched a few of your videos recently and the moment I subscribed was when you said "I actually like Final Fantasy XIII" LOL
A controversial opinion for sure! XD
Very enjoyable run to watch, man. But what was that awesome soundtrack used during the Ushumgal Subjugator fight?
Thank you! 😀 If you search for epic copyright-free music on TH-cam, it's one of the top results.
We need more final fantasy 13 content 🔥
Fighting a battle cruiser with a sword, staff, and boomerang beats suplexing a train.
Very true! 😆
Nice idea and well executed! Now I have a earworm of „jub dun!“
Thanks! Sorry about my Northern British accent, I hate it so much XD
Great vid! Ailette is basically “little wing” in French btw, word probably comes from the shoulder things looking like small wings.
Ahh thanks, that's really interesting!
I dunno why everyone gives ff13 the most linear hate when ff10 is just as linear and has just the same “leveling” system in the form of spheres. But to each their own. Both are great games.
Totally agree! Both are excellent games!
I also like FF13, actually more than like. The story was decent, and I loved every single one of the characters. Stand outs being Serah and Vanille.
Yeah I totally agree the characters really stand out in FF13. They're amazing.
20:29 Last night, I go to sleep partway into this video. Today, I wake up and press play, perfectly timed to watch the thumbnail change into the same image of lightning in the video.
Hahaha I love it!!!!
I really like your story telling and attitude!
And I really like your positivity! Thanks for being here! :)
This was the fastest hour ever lol. I watched this randomly from seeing it in my recommended tab and bruh this is a great video I lost track of time watching the whole thing😂.
Hahaha that's awesome, glad you enjoyed it! "Time flies when you're having fun" and all that! :P
Love your runs dude really
Thanks for the kind words - keeps me motivated!! :)
I think someone might have already done a no-materia run, but I'd be up for putting my own spin on it if people wanna see it!
Its great to see my favourite ff game getting some love with this cool challenge run, this was super fun to watch ^^
I appreciate your time! Glad you enjoyed it! 😀
Thank you - nice comments like yours really do keep me motivated. Genuinely appreciate it! :)
The answer was no. But I still watched the whole video because it’s interesting 😅
Spoilers! 😆
as someone whos first ever FF game was 13 and its my favourite, im excited to watch all of this!
Wooo, hope you enjoyed it! 😀
@@RPGchallengeruns I did! was amazing! Couldnt get enough of the "MASSIVE DAMAGE" haha, i look forward to more content in the future
Linearity was perfect for the story tbh. I loved this game, like 13-2, couldnt finish LR. 😅
That's basically where I'm at. XD
Cheers for checking out the video!
Sazh is definitely a young looking 40!
Thank you! I'm glad someone agrees! 😅
Finally, some FF XIII appreciation. WP.
Thanks, this game deserves more recognition!
