I remember a billboard on the north end of the river bridge that touted the B&LE as a link of Pittsburgh and the great lakes. In 1980 we replaced some ties near Stanton Steel.

Great job!!! As someone who lives near the abandoned lot of the old US Steel property in Saxonburg, I love the history of the B&LE. Thanks for going more in depth about the railroad on several occasions, as I have learned a lot from it.

All that work just to see it rust away. Here in the Milwaukee area MILW ROAD & CNW both had industrial parks and one is cut off and the other three are shells of their original selves. In fact saw the New Berlin ex CNW line roll in last night with 2 GP60s bracketing one empty plastic Pelley car. Down to 3 customers at one time had 12. Had a B&LE SD38 on the ex MILW run up to Belgium's WI earlier this year. A little dirty and battered but looked good on 21 cars of scrap metal and 4 plastic pellets.

The former C&NW's Elk Gove, IL industrial park still does a fair amount of rail business with the industries and warehouses that were built there back in the early 1960s.

Device at 5:58 is a Flange Lubricator.

Yes! Exactly! Its purpose is to provide a lubricant, a miniscule amount, so to help reduce rail wear and friction around curves.

I live in west deer, and really enjoy the B&LE history in the area. Thank you for this video! If you would like to search for remnants of the sidings that serviced the mines, I would be more than happy to go along and help!

Beginning at the 8:50 mark what is that dip in the track all about? Is it simply settling roadbed, or was it intentionally put there?

Do you have any more information on this line? I checked out the Penn Pilot program for an aerial view of the development, and as of 1967, the only buildings constructed were GMC and Stanton. The other customers must have been built later.

Stover hasn't had a car in over 5 years. There is actually a large air conditioning unit sitting on the rails next to the building. 8:30 that's is the Bennett supply siding, the only active customer in the AID

I did not realize it has been that long since Stover & Co was served. Any idea of what year they last saw service? I thought it was after CN.

I enjoy all your videos. I worked at Action Ind. till the closing. The company moved to Ohio to rid them of having a union workforce.

Having lived just a few mile from the area you have in the opening picture, I find it very confusing that North is not oriented to the top of the page. North is always supposed to be at the top in maps so the picture should be oriented likewise. As far as I can ascertain, the top of the page is East in the opening sequence of your video.
