The one song you guys should react to from Nirvana is: "Aneurysm" Live from the Paramount in Seattle in 1991.......that's even before they got really big!!!
YES! It's the best version of that amazing song. They were at their best, about to blow up in couple weeks!
@@HenritheHorse Indeed!!!
Yes! And Breed from the same concert
right now
...Scentless apprentice, Radio friendly, negative creep, paper cuts and more...
Fun Fact: There are four different videos for this song. The first was made by a film student in 1990 before the band was famous. The other three are different edits of the same footage. In one, the band is wearing suits, in another, they are wearing dresses, and in the one MTV usually played, they are wearing a suits in some shots and dresses in others. These three videos are parodies of the old variety shows like The Ed Sullivan Show. Just like the show, they were filmed in black and white, include footage of a crowd of screaming girls, and feature a host who mispronounces the name of the band.
-this song was on the first rock band game!
Crazy how they knew they were gonna Beatles size famous
The mispronounced name thing reminds me of Alice And Chain at the Moore 😂
Man its hard to believe Kurt has been gone 30 yrs now, died at 27 on my 27th birthday! Breed live from the Paramount 1991 is my favorite jam ✌💖☮
🕯️💜
This song rules. Nirvana rules. I will always be a fan of Nirvana.🤘🖤🔥😁💯💯💯💯
Hollywood asked 'why in bloom?'
The answer can be found in the lyric 'tender age in bloom'.
The song is a coming of age song and it fits with nirvana coming out of the underground alternative scene and into the mainstream. Smokey was largely right with the idea of this is how they see us but they don't see who we are, which is how a lot of kids feel when they reach adulthood. Kurts penmanship on these lyrics are top notch, he says just enough with each line to catch your attention but keeps it simple so that you can find your own meaning depending on how deep you want to look into them.
Actually Kurt himself said it was about loggers he detested for cutting the forests down being too dumb to know the song is about them hence the he likes to shoot his gun but don’t know what it means which u can find on google for the interview
@@metaphoria3 thank you, I hadn't seen or heard that interview and didn't know that. I guess it just goes to show how art can be interpreted differently depending on the viewer and as such highlights just how artistic kurts mind was.
@@warpspasm6652 absolutely he was way too smart for that small town he had a big picture mindset they couldn’t understand riparadise
You are correct, it’s a round about way of saying they have a lot of fans that aren’t into it for the music more the coolness. It’s something that’s always bugged Kurt not having true fans. He was very passionate about music and he thought everyone else should be also.
Whenever I hear this song now it reminds me of all the weird American right-wing millennial politicos who acted shocked when they found what out Rage Against the Machine was talking about
Actually Kurt himself said it was about loggers he detested for cutting the forests down being too dumb to know the song is about them hence the he likes to shoot his gun but don’t know what it means which u can find on google for the interview
@@Turnaboutexactly it was about the loggers in Aberdeen
One of my favorite bands. I was 18 years old when he died. Can't believe it's been 30 years.
One of the Nirvana covers I put in the book when I was teaching kids after school how to be in a band. Long-time fave. Great song, great vid. Three strong, distinct individuals, with so much to bring to the table. Rest In Peace, Kurt 💐 💔 🥹 🎶 ✨️ 🕊
"...And Justice For All" was most-directly after his passing
16:07 I think Smokey's got it 💯. You could say that in today's society of children liking things, they have no idea what it's about just because they think it's cool. Or because they want to be a follower.
Actually Kurt himself said it was about loggers he detested for cutting the forests down being too dumb to know the song is about them hence the he likes to shoot his gun but don’t know what it means which u can find on google for the interview
Bruce Willis had a blues band in the early 90s. He was a singer and harmonica player. Seriously.
They played gigs but not a big touring band. He did it for fun in Los Angeles.
here is Bruce playing with the late night band once on Letterman. th-cam.com/video/99A2KqvfBLI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YP8-oFvAArLN7m6F
@@mikefetterman6782Bruno and the Heaters
Goat!
What's Bruce Willis doing now? 😏
The brilliance of a song criticising the people who mindlessly sing along without understanding the song or the band and yet the song has an easy to sing along chorus.
Nirvana was my Beatles.😊😊😊😊❤❤
Nirvana is way better than the Beatles. The Beatles had only 1 decent song, and that was Helter Skelter. Nirvana>Beatles 😤
"Negative Creep"
YES 🤘👊
🎶"Daddy's little girl ain't girl no more."🎶
Nirvana has the the best anti guitar solo guitar solos.
@@mattiefee Breed is another great example
You might have a lot of fun with Graham Coxon.
Because he suck at playing solos
@@christopherking4932 Depends on one´s taste, really. But hey, whenever I want to hear something really masterful, I´ll get back to you.
They def were a badass band🤘❤️. Kurt is sorely missed😢
You should react to Nirvana “In Bloom” the first version of this video
I turned down an opportunity to be a zombie for the movie The Walking Dead. And it was a paid gig. I just was camera shy, but now I wish I hadn't turned it down. That could have been the start to my movie career.
NO ! The first album after Cliff died was And Justice for All . He only wrote one song on that partially .
That’s fact
That wasn't the question. It was which of the albums from among the "choices" given were after Cliff passed; the choices were Cliff's 3 albums plus "Metallica" (aka The Black Album) which sounds, to a non-Metallica fan, like it could be their first album. But, yes, ...And Justice was the first album with Newsted
@@joecarcione6636 True ! I wasn't looking at it like that , II thought it was whoever wrote the question made a mistake. Turns out it was me who made the mistake ! I own it. I'm a dummy sometimes lol !
Thought he asked which was written after Cliff, but apparently he wrote on that album. So even if it were an option it would incorrect, according to your information.
The key word is "written", not released.
I think the polarizing aspect of them is that a lot of people resent grunge for killing off a lot of boomers/gen-x most beloved bands. But I think it's more interesting to look past their mainstream success and the grunge label and look at them from the standpoint of punk, since they were heavily influenced by punk and had a punk ethos. In that respect, their sound changed punk and revolutionized what bands in many genres would do from there on out.
I embraced grunge since it was still rock music {except for Nickelback}
Seen a lot of people giving a lot of meanings for the song. Some are close. According to the official Nirvana biography, the song is about the "jocks and mainstream types" who made up a lot of their audience after they became mega popular. They were not there for the music, they were there because it was suddenly the cool place to be.
Bruce had a blues band for years.
Don't forget how much of a killer Dave is on the drums. I have fun with the trivia. Keep being awesome dudes.
You should listen to Radio Friendly Unit Shifter next (especially Live and Loud 1993)
When this album came out I walked around middle school for about a month with a hoodie on and a Walkman hidden inside the shirt.
Nirvanas best ever track. Love the channel guys.
the video is a parady of the 1950's/60's band shows
That Krist bassline is so heavy n the verse n bouncy in the chorus! absolute 🔥
Kurt was irreplaceable. He also wrote almost all of their songs
Hey Guys!!! Happy Tuesday Evening to you both!!!!! I have a little fun useless info for ya. In fact the most Amazing Bruce Willis actually sang as well as being a terrific actor. His band was called the Bruce Willis Blues Band. He always looked like he was having a blast when he was singing. He is one Hell of a sexy, yet funny, good time guy. He along with many many many men who got better with age. Such a star in the sky was Mr. Willis!!! Also back to this video you just reacted to... I am pretty positive the "Host" of the TV show in this video was supposed to be Ed Sullivan. He would always introduce his male guests as "Fine, thoroughly alright group of boys". Also as a matter of fact, when Elvis Presley was on the Ed Sullivan show, for the first time, that is how he spoke of him too. You should go and check out some of the old Ed Sullivan shows here on TH-cam. They are very entertaining. I love this video because the face that Kurt had throughout the entire video!!! Just watching his face was good enough for me. Such a good song. Such a great video. Thanks for doing this one.🤘🤘🤘❤❤❤😎😎😎
They actually filmed this video with vintage cameras and film to recreate the old effect. It is great. The audience is Beatles and Elvis audience reactions, if I remember right.
Nirvana is REVERED in Seattle .. Pearl Jam could be loved more (prob cuz Eddie’s still living and the others aren’t:/) I think just listened to Ten incredible album
Dave with the preppy blond wig and the innocent face cracks me up. Love it.
Nirvana stopped when Kurt KHS because he was the primary song writer. It was different with AIC because Cantrell wrote most of the music.
Shout out from Seattle fellaz! 🌲🤘🫡😎
If i remember rightly...the person they're referencing in the song is Kurt's friend Dylan Carlson from the drone metal band 'Earth' and is the same guy who bought Kurt the shotgun..."likes to shoot his gun" is a line referencing Dylan.
thats Come as you are’s chorus this is about dumb loggers in his hometown of Aberdeen that don’t know cutting down the old growth forest is stupid long term thus in bloom
Got the Earth part right wasn’t that Ozzys first and before Sabbath?
@@metaphoria3 yeah Black Sabbath used that name first for a very short while...also used the name Polka Tulk Blues band I think too.
Very good take on a song! Makes a lot of sense.
Never been a big Nirvana fan but I always liked this song. A band called Four Year Strong does a great cover of it!
As someone who is from Seattle, Nirvana is a birth rite and you must like them or else!
Everybody loved nirvana back in the day. Their longevity post-kurt has lead to revisionist history and people saying theyre over rated.
Thanks for gettin back on that seattle sauce salut ATL
Fun fact: I recently learned that Kurt Cobain was actually a roadie for a band called “Bam Bam”. They were fronted by a woman by the name of Tina Bell in the early to mid 80s. They practically pioneered grunge. Check out the video for “Ground Zero” by Bam Bam, and it will become obvious as to why Tina was virtually erased from the grunge scene.
I feel like In Bloom was instrumental in what inspired Weezer. In Bloom has its very own vibe, it's almost a genre in itself.
Only song writers make big money off success over years. Owning your music is the secret to not getting screwed by record companies and managers. 60s groups learned that the hard way - even Beatles and Stones
One of my favorite Nirvana songs. Also worth checking out is country artist Sturgill Simpson's cover on his album A Sailor's Guide to Earth.
My bad. Y'all just brought up the cover. I need to actually watch the whole video before I comment.
This video reminds me of 2 videos: Outkast's "Hey Ya!" and Weezer's "Buddy Holly."
Rip. Kurt great musicians
Hey guys, have to correct the Metallica question. Master of Puppets was the first album recorded after the death of Cliff, but some of the songs were already written for it prior to his death. Right. The lightning was the last full album written and performed by Cliff. Master of Puppets - ReLoad were all Jason.
I learned this song on bass, I am playing it together with the band I am in now. It's really sweet to play, dynamic. Only if our drummer didn't play with 50% higher BPM, it would be awesome. He breaks my left hand, I've got three different versions of the chorus that I do, depending on his mood.
Smokey is definitely on to something. I think was sort of the jocks vs outcast culture where "don't know what it means" refers to the "jock" who has no idea the lyrics talk about mental anguish, being an outsider and so forth instead of "yeeah! kicka*s!" attitudes.
I automatically start playing air drums
actually the first Metallica album after Cliffs death was “ AND JUSTICE FOR ALL” and there was no bass guitar released on the album when it came out, even though Jason Newstead played the songs as a tribute to Cliff they left it out. I remember buying this and thinking “ this is awesome!! but something sounds weird. “ later i heard there was no bass and it made sense.
If I remember correctly, this is the first song Dave G recorded with a click track.
It about jocks starting to come to his shows, the kind of guys that beat him up for listening to this type of music. It’s a finger up to them
Public Enemy -
"Harder Than You Think"
(lyric breakdown)
Michael Franti and Spearhead -
"Good To Be Alive Today"
(lyric breakdown)
American Graveyard -
"Common Ones"
Iconicism
Most modern/ relevant band ever
I would recommend The Mercy Seat from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
You know you’re right, Blew, School, Sappy, Paper Cuts, Serve the servants, Something in the way, I’m on a plain,
They wore red striped suits in the video.
A little tidbit, The Bible teaches that heaven is an actual place, while the term nirvana means "the blowing out" of existence. Great reaction fellas.
Shout out Jack Endino we workin with him he produced Bleach among Soundgardens first records n others 🫡
good reaction.
brilliant song, brilliant video, brilliant band. another case of Burn Bright, Burn Fast, Burn Out.
i wish i could truly convey why they made so many of us happy. after the unending boredom of mid to late 80s 'rock' bands, they gave us hope again. they wrote good songs. they had hooks. they rocked.
with the exception of a very few, most of what mainstream play liked to call 'hard rock' was actually just an overabundance of spandex wearing hair bands. every song sounded the same. every band looked the same. it was so boring. if they had any technical proficiency on an instrument it was buried under tuneless notes and mundane lyrics.
Nirvana was like breathing again, when you didn't realize you've been holding your breath.
btw - i think it was a Beatles crowd.
Come as you are NEXT!
Awesome video.
Bruce Willis released a song in the late 80's, having a mind blank what it was called bit it wasn't totally bad.
Great song, great band! Next, check out “Rape Me,” released in 93. ✌️
Bruce Willis actually released a few albums.
Wishin I coulda grab a beer with my bro tonight 🍻 was just at his place playing acoustic on the front steps even came up with some new tunes then the rest is a longggg story
Crazy how they knew they were gonna Beatles size famous
The problem with this music video is the constant scream sample which is NOT present on the album nor the alt video. I get the analogy, but they could have made the same 'artistic' point with the sample isolated to the beginning and end. Ex: The video of "Sweet '69" by Babes in Toyland. They are of the same period and knew Kurt. Give this song a try, it's fun!
You’re NirVANA gonna do that again! lol
Can you do Family by Badflower or Spotlight by Future Leaders of the World? The singer has some grunge type vocals.
This song makes me want to go to karaoke and sing Nirvana after I get drunk ass s***. Going to need some beers to get me on stage.😊
Fun video 😂
Weezer was like we can make a whole band off that vid lol
Ya'll should check out La Coka Nostra - Mind your business and Im an American feat. B-Real.
Changed my mind about the military in 95 because the president at the time had reduced enrollment so not many jobs were available even though I had an extremely high score. Made me quite upset
Have you guys done Bring the Noise - Public Enemy/Anthrax? That would be a cool reaction.
the lyrics are about a person who likes the music and likes to sing along, but he does not understand what the lyrics are saying and what the band stands for.
You guys should really check out some sturgill since you mentioned him. Turtles all the way down would be a good place to start.
According to their biography, it was about the narrow minded jocks that you to be at their gigs, thinking they were cool but never knew what Nirvana were about
Afaik the song is about the people who listen to your music, just because its popular atm, regardless of actually being into the music. It's like conservatives liking RATM and not getting the message. Cobain really struggled with being famous
9min intro is crazy
I'm mean,I always skip the intro 😂🤷🏻♀️. They are always so long.
If you ain’t heard Nirvana cover D-7 by The Wipers you ain’t heard Nirvana.
Cool analysis of the video Smoke dog. 😊😊😊
My friends, I'm sorry to say you were wrong... After the death of Cliff Burton, Metallica hired Jason Newsted and started to write "...And Justice for all" James and Lars lower the bass guitar volume so it couldn't be heard in the mix, all because the were still greaving Cliff's death. SO the answer wasn´t "metallica-Metallica" it's ...And Justice For All.
Salut les adorables que c'est bon j'aime tellement Nirvana dommage 😭💔🙏Kurt est toujours parmi nous sa musique est éternelle une de mes chansons préférés merci beaucoup pour vos réactions 👍🇫🇷🤩🎸
I swear Weezer is based entirely on this video.
That was the only album from Metallica that you listed that Cliff didn't do anything for. The first album he did not write any of the songs for was And Justice For All
Nirvana always were controversial and divisive, the way rock should be.
Next time you buy an apple or an orange or something like that, just remember that’s a plant’s kid.
@@0okamino and eggs are unborn fetuses...that taste great with some cheese and hot sauce
Who knew Nirvana pioneered the Weezer look makes me rethink Weezer from a meme to a copycat?? Lmao thought Kurt looks like Cuomo in this vid
It's "knows not what it means"... Just to clarify
Oh btw…. Y’all need The 7th Element in y’all’s life
This song encapsulates the breakdown the right had when they found out that Rage Against the Machine was preaching the opposite of their political beliefs. The same people loved this song. 🤦♂️
1:05 That's the Black Album
Nah its And Justice For All
Cliff died in '86, Black album came out in '91! And Justice For All came in '88, the 1st album after his death
Nirvana is great and there’s no doubt that they left their mark on the music scene. However, I have always preferred Alice in Chains.
@@Sunshineandhydrangeas I'm waiting for some Mudhoney or Meat Puppets on the channel
Is it wrong that I prefer listening to you guys bantering than the music?
You are almost right about the lyrics. But... Also completely wrong, but not your fault. Probably Kurt fault. The "kid" he's talking about is Dylan Carlson, Kurt best friend, in pop music history he's best know as the guy who gave Kurt the gun that he killed himself.
But... By music lovers he's know as much more than that. He's the man behind Earth, one of the most influential bands of all time from America. One of the best, more respected and most influential musicians from the last 30 or 40 years. To many people even the most influential and respected musician of America.
To Kurt, he was the guy who liked all the pretty songs bit don't know what they mean, but to everyone else, he's an God in alternative and underground music.
DEFINITELY THINK THAT MOST METAL HEADS DISAPPROVE NIRVANA BECAUSE THEY KILLED OFF 80S METAL AND THEY WEREN'T THE MOST TALENTED BAND AND STILL HAD ALOT OF SUCCESS.
