I was just looking at my overgrown watermelon vines. I still have small melons here and there. This video is just what I needed!!! Thank you for sharing ❤
We are changing things up for next spring's garden. Canned tomatoes this year and last year. Looking forward to watermelon next year. You have given me the confidence. Thank you GreenT.
Im in Toronto and trying watermelon for a 2nd year. About a week ago, the green full leaves are starting to look less healthy. The vines are all entwined on a vertical trellis, so I could only clip all the growing tips as I can tell what are useless shoots. Ive got 12 melons, but several seem to stop growing. Hopefully, some will get to ripen 🤞🏻 Love your pruning tips for Sx4 😂 short season small space gardens.
Sorry to hear that.. but yes I highly recommend pruning.. When it comes to watermelon too, they like to be healthy and stay healthy and hydrated.. Add a fertilizer rate of 1010 10 And you have to make sure you water on time. do not let the plant dry out.. I normally water every wanted to 2 days and I add fertilizer every 2 to 3 weeks and I kind of stick with the same routine and I have a really good growing production so far... Thanks for sharing and I appreciate it..thank Gardening 🌱
Thank you so much.. having a Farm a must be amazing 😍... One day we're hoping to have our own horse/garden farm. It's a big dream here... 🙏🏾🌱. Have a wonderful weekend 🌱
@Greentgarden yes it is . We have a strawberry farm, of course, we planted other crops next to it. It is expensive, hard and exhausting work, but it is enjoyable. Our strawberries have not yet borne fruit. Visit them if you wish🌹🌹👍👍👍🌹🌹🌹
Oh nice ! So carrots will normally takes a long time but a small one faster.. Normally when to harvest carrots. You're going to see the carrots above the soil at least half of an inch.. Once you see signs of carrots popping out, that's a clear indication. .. It's good to thin out the carrots To get a better air flow, a better growing faster production. But it does take time because basically what you're doing. You're cutting out some of the bigger carrot tops .. Bad fertilizer every 3 weeks and try to water. If you want to do this. Keep it moist but not too wet. ...
I only got one watermelon so far and it's growing very slowly it's nowhere near ready it's a black diamond I'm scared to prune because I'm afraid I'm going to cut the main stem but thank you for the advice I will be taking care of it today
Oh I totally understand if you're going to prune definitely take your time and follow all the stems separate This side shoots from the main stem so you don't cut off the main stem.. Pruning helps a lot though...
So those are fungus from Downey mildew. Plus I was getting attacked by squash bugs.. Plus the weather's getting colder in the night and then hotter in the day... I sprayed milk and water. I sprayed neem oil baking soda. I got rid of the squash bugs.. Now I'm just dealing with the fungus and the the mix confuse weather.. My main source right now is just to get the watermelon ripe before fall...
I apreciate it Bro I GOT my watermelons like tenis ball..running out of time with fall.coming and so Many leaves.I almost do It cause I Saw those Big leaves are only fucking energy off the plant and have no purpose at this point I have a Big yard for them to grow but Im in north Spain and fall IS coming..anything that can speed it Up and give me bigger size Im all in
So definitely pruning off some of the side shoots... Whichever side Vines Are running off the main stems doesn't have any watermelon on them. Pruned them off right away... Take your time and look , as you do not want to cut off one with a watermelon on it ( I did that many times lol ) Only leave the vines with watermelon on them and couple of the leaves on the main stem prune out any extra grow point around the main area of the plants and remove any unwanted side shoots that will speed up the growing process fast trust me.. Also increase the fertilizer ...
@@Greentgarden thank you. I am growing moon and stars this year and I got 2 watermelons (1per vine). I am struggling to know when to pick. The tendril next to the main stem has broken off but a bit left is still green but the one below and above are browning. I can’t tell with the sound for the life of me. Ugh!
Wow! That is a beautiful watermelon . Check the on the need of the watermelon. If it's white or yellow that's another sign. Also, what you could do is to knock on the watermelon. If it sounds hollow, it's a good sign it's ripe... Do enjoy and I hope you harvest at a great time 🌱🙏🏾
98 degrees in the day in Louisiana and very oddly...64 at night. We had 50s at night in July several times. It has been a strange summer and unusually cool until August when we finally hit 100 once here. The temperature record going back thousands of years shows we`re about to drop into another very cold period very rapidly and it`s beginning now on the graph. That isn`t what they`re telling us though.
My melons already died back. My soil is definetly not good enough. Everything is just now dying and winding down. Biggest melon was 8lbs. Tomatoes, peppers and veggies do well in my inground soil. Eggplants, beans and pretty much anything else. Just doesnt. I planted 15 watermelon plants and only got 10 watermelons. Some didnt even give me any fruit. Didnt get yellow melons this year unfortunatly. Last year i grew them in pots 16L pots and i got 1 melon per pot. Didnt go pass 5lbs. But better ratio to plant and space than what i did this year. Took about 62 square feets. Lots of them just refused to set fruit. Hand pollinated with a fruit and cut male flowers and they still aborted their fruit.
Sorry to hear.... You should definitely try getting into the compost , home compost is one of the best things you could do for your watermelon are bigger plants in your garden... UnFortunately here with the weather watermelon coming down to the end, I'm trying my best to get the rest to ripening So I don't lose any.. .. The one thing I do to my watermelon plants and see good progress is that is that I keep up with the fertilizer extra calcium and I try to water on time.. Also, I'm a big believer in pruning. The pruning does work pretty well... Thank you for sharing with us.. have a great day 🌱
@@Greentgarden got city compost a ton of it last year... even dumped my soil and replaced it by it and mixed it. Did that to my strawberry bed also.. soil turned into a rock and i had to dig them out. Tasteless berries. Now im fighting to get runners to save the patch. Never again it improved my inground soil a bit but for the effort i put on it. It wsnt worth it
If you blend fruit with your blender filter It with a nut milk bag you can throw the fiber to the plants Iget huge cucumbers bigger than storebought and my first year watermelons the eplantar look very healthy.a good way to improve your diet and grow organic
