Russia knew that Ukraine needs PR wins to secure more support from NATO. Of course Ukraine would overreact to a tiny Russian force in Vovchansk while the majority of Russian forces remain committed to the Donbass.
Kharkiv was never in danger of beeing conquered by the russians, not with the forces they are using on this attack.
BUT, if they advance the frontline enough, they can bombard Kharkiv (the second most important city of Ukraine) with field artillery (for wich they have plenty of cheap amunition), instead of having to use more expensive long range weapons, and drones, wich they don`t produce as quickly as conventional artillery amunition........
THAT`S why the launched this offensive, to put Ukraine in an impossible dilema: Let the russians reach the outskirts of Kharkiv and beeing able to flatten it piece by piece, OR move troops from other parts of the front to stop them, allowing the russians to launch new offensives in the weakened sectors........

Russia is spending 30% on its military and another 10% (for a total of 40%) on internal defence. So 40% of all the money Russia is spending this year (according to their budget), goes to the war effort directly. This is at the cost of healthcare, education, infrastructure, etc.

I dont care about Ukraines borders. It wont reconquer the lost territories. The war has become a stalemate with a russian advantage. Further escalation should never be allowed.
The killing and suffering must stop. And Ukraine needs to recover. Currently its a bottomless barrel for the tax payers of many countries which keep Ukraine on life support.
Russia won't allow it, if they aren't basically controlling it. Putins current demands are that Ukraine doesn't join Nato and that they get to keep the occupied land. If Ukraine gives into these demands (Which they won't) Then Russia has basically full control over Ukraine, and can gear up again for another invasion, in an already war-torn country.
First of all, almost no money at all is going to Ukraine. Trump's tax cuts for the rich cost America twice as much every year, as all aid sent to Ukraine so far by everyone.

I am not been arrogant, just curious. Why is Ukraine losing so much territory, I mean the US has sent billions in weapons and there is still no advance.
Because support is sent separately and stupidly. Abrams were delivered in December 2023, but F-16 only in July. For assaults, air superiority is needed, but Ukraine did not receive aviation for a long time and lost 10 of the 30 Abrams in 3 months. And most of the “billion-dollar aid” goes only to artillery and ammunition for HIMARS

What is the threshold at 6:14? None of this really means anything to me at least. "Heavy shelling" for example can mean many things. The Areas are far too big for it to mean anything too. I just never understand that section like i think i should.

Plus, even if they advance this much every single day, then they'll still not achieve their goal of taking all of Donbas by the end of the year. And considering their daily losses, by the time 2025 arrives, there won't be that much left to fight with for Russia. Provided North Korea or others don't send massive amounts of equipment, of course.

if you compare to last year's advance to this year, you can clearly see that the Russian advance continues to intensify, and the Ukrainian advance continues to decrease, this is because of the insufficient manpower, lacking western equipment, and not enough support. In the first two years, Ukraine got a lot of support from the west, and even pushed the Russians back in several fronts, such as Kharkiv Counteroffensive in September 2023, and the Kherson Offensive in the same year, everyone thought that Ukraine was gonna win the war, but that momentum soon turned around when the Ukrainian counteroffensive in June 2023, aimed at the Zaporizhia Oblast, the Ukrainian advance bogged down and achieve minor gains, it was the moment where the Ukrainian and western momentum lost, and Russia gained back its momentum. And as 2024 rolled around, the support dwindled because the US congress continues to block aids to Ukraine, and many Ukrainian citizens fleeing from the country to dodge military drafts. It made a pretty big impact on Ukraine's military even though their military improved significantly throughout the war. And since the Russians just launched a general attack (because of the big advances recently), this clearly indicates that the Ukrainian military is not doing well on the frontlines, they need more support, more manpower, and especially more western weapons. If this continues, Putin would win the war, and the west would lose. And who knows what comes next?
