      Thanks! Yep, that's on the list of things to try out. I've got some black plastidip for the mirrors to see what it'd look like. Just haven't made the time to do it. I also have the smaller sport mirrors that I'm considering using. Also will likely black plastidip the bumpers too.

      Thanks! batbat! No I don't have line-locks. I've considered a rear disc conversion, just havent decided yet. I'd like to do the LS1 rear brake but I need to make sure that my 15" Ralleys will fit over them.

    What makes this motor get to higher RPMS faster? The 5.3 in my 2015 silverado and other dynos I've seen using 5.3's has such a long drawn out power range. Im looking for a cheap 5.3 for my kit car.
    But I want quick power range like this... What makes it push power faster than everyone elses that takes 15 min to get up to 6k...

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +NoOneImportant556 Well, I never thought this one got up there that quick. There are quite a few things that can make that happen though. Rear gear ratio can help, a stall converter would make a HUGE difference in that too. Maybe its the cam and higher compression ratio of 10.6:1 that I have. I'm not sure. I never thought this one revved any quicker than another. I actually thought it was kinda slow because of the heavy 80e trans that I'm running. Its first gear ratio, low factory stall and weight usually slows a motor down and eats some power.
      I recently installed a 3200 stall converter and it'll get to high RPM's (where the power actually kicks in) five times as fast as what you see in this video.

    • @mrmidnight32
      @mrmidnight32 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like it gains RPMs a lot faster than some of the other videos I came across. I know it wont rev like a 4 cly motor but some V8's ususally can peak RPMS quick. The 5.3 just luls out a little in the power band it seems like.
      I figured it was related to cams, gearing, dig and weight. But I just wanted to ask. Seeing you actually built one. Where mine is all speculation lol
      I was set on a 2JZ with a double turbo set up.. But the 5.3 and LS line makes such easy cheap power.. It's so hard not to. Especially when you're building a tube car with no dimensions or motor mount restrictions.
      It's all still just a pipe dream. But as soon as I pay off my 2015 silverado I'm going to start the kit car. Just trying to get an idea where the hell I want to go with it and motor I'm going to build around.

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +NoOneImportant556 Yep, sounds like you've got the idea, there in your second paragraph. Yea, the LSs are too cheap, dependable and powerful to go another route.

      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got that one of punching it up and down the road a bunch, but I' need to get some on the freeway running some other cars. Yea, I was trying not to stall it since this is my mild build as a daily driver, but I'm itching pretty bad for a 3k stall right now. What ever stall i go with I have to make sure that it won't have a problem towing my Camaro across country when I have to move soon.

      +William Swanson hey hey! You can just put a certain year of Cadillac brakes on the rear. Someone makes a bracket to fit them to our axle housing. I believe the kit to do it is on ebay for about $300. It fits the factory wheel.

    So how did you wire your swap harness to the neutral safety switch in the truck? I looked at my truck and there's not one on the trans.LOL (should have been the first thing I checked) .. Feeling a little stupid now..

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't have to wire any neutral safety switch. Usually that's on the car itself and not part of the swap. All it does is stop the continuity from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid.

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      First, I'd verify that its a rod knock. Theres a few other things that can sound just like a rod knock, like lose flex plate blots.

    • @MrGOOFYLOC
      @MrGOOFYLOC 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      HEY WAT KIND OFF CAM U RECOMMEND ME FOR MY 5.7 VORTEC I DONT WAT NOTHING BIG SO

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      victor chavelas Gen 2 style block(non LS)? Well what is too big will be a measurement you can only make, but what I'd suggest either search around to see what others are running and if it does what you're looking for. The best thing to do would be to call you choice of cam shop, like Comp, and ask them what they recommend for you and what you're looking to do. They use to getting calls like that, that's what they do. It's been a while since I researched SBC cams and I dont have any in memory to recommend at this time.

    • @MrGOOFYLOC
      @MrGOOFYLOC 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I WAS THINKING LIKE A ZZ4

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      victor chavelas yea, that's an option. I've not used that cam before. Just make sure what cam you chose wont need a stall converter unless you plan to do that too. But that's usually going larger then normal and probably larger then you want.

  • @rickhatfat12567

  • @wiggymccrackin8240

    why didn't you go with the ls6 cam vs the TPS?

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wiggy McCrackin Because I had a little more money to invest on this build vs my last build and the TSP cam will not only perform better but sound better too. IT's a little smaller than what I want though. I'd prefer a 224r but will likely use the 228/230 that came out of the 5.3 Squirter project since I already have it.

    • @wiggymccrackin8240
      @wiggymccrackin8240 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +AGearhead4Life cool. I have an LM7 5.3 that's in my 99 gmc sierra (late model). I've been watching your videos for some time. I'm not gonna use the 4.8 pistons because I'm probably gonna turbo it and add some nitrous. but I'm probably gonna port my heads the way you did. but I need to research between the cam that you chose vs the ls6.

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wiggy McCrackin Yea, my cam would be the best for a boost build, especially with the 112lsa on it. The LS6 does great with boost. Boost will overcome the flow of the heads as well, so its not as need as it would be on a NA build. Just grab the LS6 cam and a turbo.

  • @BADAZZ93STANG
    @BADAZZ93STANG 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry to bother you again. So what did you do with the neutral safety switch wires from the swap harness? And how did you get the speedometer to work since the speed sensor wires into the swap harness?

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same answer I gave on your last post. I didnt have to wire a neutral safety switch and dont know why you do. Speedo is one wire on the LS harness. Run it to the one wire on the guage. LT1swap.com tells you wich wire it is on the LS harness.

      I think that I read about it somewhere, but it was risky because it'd make the walls so thin. Boing it out to 3.9" LS1 bore is common though. I've got one like that in my garage now.

    Need a bit a bit of advise. I have a 85 c10. 350 motor and trans. A guy told me not to do a pos. Track rear, but change the gears and put a locker on if I want both tires to turn but release when I make turns. What's the best set of gears and locker to get for my rear?

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what locker he's referring to. Most lockers that I know stay locked all the time and that really sucks when turning. I prefer to run an Eaton Detroit Truetrack limited slip unit. It's very nice and works great for a street driven vehicle.
      I've welded up my rear end before and that was not fun at all to daily drive.
      Best gear ratio is dependent on your tire size, purpose of the vehicle and transmission. You usually cant go wrong with a set of 3.73 gears though.

    • @AGearHead4Life

      Nothing that I could really type. Carbs arent my strong side, but I can rebuild one. Usually thats what they need. They get dirty and then don't work correctly and need a cleaning and rebuild. Nothing like the way an engine runs with a fresh carb on it.

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not yet, but my buddy does and has been trying to get me to do it also. I just havent had time yet. If I had though I would have saved the front tires on this truck. They were new and I ruined them driving to LS Fest last year without an alignment.

    How difficult is this swap ? I have an 81 I want to do this to

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      How difficult it is will be dependent on the judgment of the person doing it. It's similar to removing and replacing an engine, once you've gathered all of the needed parts to make it fit and work. I wouldn't call it easy, since many have had trouble doing it. Hints why I make these videos.

    has the truck been to the track what numbers did it run quarter mile or eighth

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rick Wilson Nah, it hasn't gotten a chance to get to the track yet. Too many projects going on and any free time that I get, I go to the garage and wrench. Since this video, I have installed a 3k stall. So, it should move off the line better now. This truck is just my daily cruiser and I don't aim for all out speed, just some. My '92 Camaro is the one being built for speed.

Love your vids man.

      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks wrecked! the options of what to turn off will be listed for you by the tuner and theyre all optional. So its up to you. Some ideas though would be to raise the rev limiter to ~6800, disable the speed limiter, bump up the timing and have them set the trans shift points for more performance if you'd like also.

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      wrecked1582 I use the stock fuel line thats on the truck. Then I use the EFI rubber hose by the foot from a parts store to connect it from the hard line to the rail. I don't remember the two sizes. 3/8" and 5/16" maybe? Also make sure to double high pressure hose clamp each end if you do it that way. I have pics of some of this stuff on my Facebook blog page.

    I took my truck to get the front end aligned, and the mechanic said that I needed new balljoints all the way around or he wouldn't be able to align it. After watching your front end swap vid, I'm starting to think that he meant I should buy tie rod ends... Any word of advice?

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MrBrennanCreeper Yea, what he said is very possible, especially on an old truck like these. Both the tie rods and the ball joint can cause a problem with keeping the alignment straight. I didn't show installing the ball joints onto the control arm yet. It's very possible that you may need to rebuild the whole front end. I expect it on old trucks like these. Some are in great shape and some need everything replaced. Very few wouldn't need anything replaced though.

    • @MrBrennanCreeper
      @MrBrennanCreeper 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AGearHead4Life Thanks man. I was given the truck by my grand dad, and the steering isn't exactly direct, it likes to wander. Know how I could change that? I have between 1/8-1/4 turn of play.

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MrBrennanCreeper Yea, that'll be part of that front end rebuild. The only way to know is to inspect all of the front end and then replace all that has play in it.

    • @MrBrennanCreeper
      @MrBrennanCreeper 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds expensive... Good thing it's a project for now.

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MrBrennanCreeper Yea, it's a couple hundred dollars for everything. Double that if you do the bushings too. Look up the parts kits for the front end on ebay to get a general idea of a cost for all of it.

      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @AGearHead4Life

      Damien Crouse Make sure the cam that is in it is compatibly with the TBI, if its a stock cam, I'd expect it to be ok. Make sure that you check timing. With the ECM timing advance wire unplugged, you set the timing to zero. Have you done this already?

    AGearhead4Life okay I'm looking to do a v8 swap into my 2002 trailblazer should I get the 4.8L or 5.3L I plan on trying to put Ls heads and intake on it which would you go for? I'm 16 and on a budget so I need the help. Love your work by the way

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Jacob! For a low budget build, I'd use which ever LS that I could find cheapest. A 4.8 can still be fun. I wouldn't put LS1 heads on it though. 4.8/5.3 heads flow the same as LS1 heads. I'd also keep the truck intake because it flows better than the LS1 intake and is pretty much free.

    • @AGearHead4Life
      @AGearHead4Life  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem Jacob. I'd just keep the project as low cost as possible and use stock manifolds. Unless you've got a larger budget, but you could always upgrader later after you get all the bugs worked out. That way you can drive it while you save for the other upgrades that you want. Headers are usually pretty expensive and for a stock motor, manifolds will do fine.
