The plot is simple on purpose, it's the best adaptation of one of the oldest genres in all of cinema, the superhero film. The whole movie is one big crime thriller because the main idea isn't the plot. However, if you look more closely, there's attention to detail that elevates the seemingly simple plot, into something more subtle, as it fits very well as an entry into the very popular german expressionist genre as well. It has very good characterization with minimal dialogue, and of course, it's a wonderful production on all technical levels. What I'm trying to say is, The Dark Knight is the perfect film.
