When clay forming, press 'f' to choose different options, you can have a larger placement and a repeat layer option. Very useful. Also, put a roof over your kilns rain will put them out.
Edit: sorry, this was supposed to be a response to Allisongleb's comment, the mobile TH-cam interface is a bit confusing! I think you might be thinking of TerraFirmaCraft, which was a big influence on Vintage Story and has a lot of similarities, but also some major differences. In Vintage Story, you cannot make a saw in a mold, it must be made on an anvil. So your first metal tools have to be a pickaxe and hammer, so that you can mine enough copper for the anvil.
You can tan hides with tannin, made from materials other than fat, like limestone or oak logs, inside a barrel with water. your next step in progression is making tool molds, so you can make better tools. the most important tool for starters is a saw, so you can make boards, so you can make chests. then, comes everything else.
Items dropped on the ground will despawn in about 10 minutes, unless the player is too far away. To clear inventory space, you can put some items on the ground, and you can lean tools against a wall, or put them on a tool rack (made with 6 sticks, attaches to a wall and holds 4 tools).
Alas, you cannot cook in a crock pot; they are only for storing cooked meals. You will need to make a cooking pot to cook in. You will probably only want one or maybe two cooking pots, so you can fill in the space in the kiln with your extra crock. The crucible is also a quarter-of-a-kiln item, and you will need one eventually, so that is another candidate to fill up the kiln. :)

If you break the leaves first the tree will chop faster and you will get more sticks. Sticks=life

bones also are good once you get a quirn and can grind them down for planting
