    An alleged quote from a soviet WWII era document reads "One of the serious problems in planning against American doctrine is that the Americans do not read their manuals nor do they feel any obligations to follow their doctrine."
    An American quote from the same time goes "If we don't know what we are doing, the enemy certainly can't anticipate our future actions."

      There was an US Airborne unit that was made up of only men that had to be removed from other platoons because they couldn't control them. They were complete nutjobs that were basically like rabid dogs that could be let loose against the enemy. The Airborne unit leader had the mentality of ''Fuck it, i'm doing it anyway!''. There was the story of how the leader found 8 chicken eggs in a coop while in a warzone, put them all in his pocket and still fought against German troops along with his squad mates but sadly he broke 1 out of the 8 eggs. The man still had some hot eggs to eat as it was very rare that a soldier could have eggs to eat when away from the HQ, if at all so to him, finding the eggs was one in a million lol. They dont follow the rules but they still make it work.

  • @steeljawX
    @steeljawX 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Saw the video you're reacting to in the thumbnail. I already knew you were going to love it. It makes sense though. It's a case of the "raven paradox." That paradox basically states that "Ravens are birds. Ravens are black. Therefore all black birds are ravens." We all know that's not true, but the "truth" of the first two points are fairly accurate. It's the assumption at the end that makes it a weird paradox of it's not correct, but it's also not technically wrong either.
    And that's what this AI did. It was with the marines for 6 days and saw that "Humans are this shape. Humans move like this at this speed. Ergo all humans are that shape and only move at that speed and that way." It's surprising that such a human fallacy is like the first thing this AI gets wrong. But can you imagine if this did go out like it did on that day 7? US soldiers would be reporting, "Yeah, some ISIS F*cker came rolling down the mountain with an RPG and the stupid thing didn't warn us!!! No! I mean literally like a ball with an RPG sticking out of it!!!" And DARPA would be there like, "That's not possible! The Marines clearly were outsmarted by our 6 day dataset!!!"

    Computers are an extension of this.
    The Opera algorithms with inset parameters to achieve set goals.
    AI still operates on these principles even more so.
    From the beginning military training is designed to break down the rules of society and form a unit that is designed to go against most of the fundamental rules.
    Boundaries are broken in the military.
    AI recognition is designed to find all the boundaries.

    I had never even considered the use of AI in an optics system to detect enemies. Imagine setting up these cameras in your trench line covering different sectors, and then getting an early warning the moment they detect enemies. Like you said, if the technology is easy enough for boots on the ground that could be a game changer.

  • @CasualObserver68
    @CasualObserver68 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Apoint you brought up... distribution of weight... think about that for a second... this would not ONLY be an early warning system, but also a robotic pack mule... so you carry less, but have more ammo, food, gear and supplies available. Also, destruction of comms is vital to keep encryption software out of the hands of the enemy. This doesnt have to have encrypted 2 way comm hardware in it.

    • @steeljawX
      @steeljawX 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But think about it for another second. You'd need about 4 of them to be effective. 1 to be the early detection bait (because that's what an early detection system sometimes is....first thing shot,) 2 to carry the team's stuff, and then 1 to carry the stuff for the new engineers and spare parts required to keep those other 3 up and running. All an OpFor would need to do would be hit the 2 cargo bearing drones and that's basically the human element on a very short timer. It sounds like a good idea, but it's also a case of putting a lot of eggs in one basket. You're right that a couple of them could pack mule the ever living for a squad, but they lose one or both, that squad's lost basically all their stuff except for what's on them. So both a pro and a con. It'd be a lot more of a con if it's doing double duty of being an early warning system AND the pack mule because then there's much higher chance it's going to get shot up.

In my 1st annual training, my unit was supposed to just be a target for recon, infantry, and some air assets. After the first brief, when we learned our job was to be stupid, I heard several Viet Nam vets mumble, "Not on my watch." These vets grabbed every cook, driver, and supply guy (without clearing it), and gave them a crash course in tactics. By the end, we had shattered everything thrown at us. To be fair, the attackers were ALSO told we were their play thing, so they weren't exactly on their game. Nothing that followed in the next 20 years was that much fun.

    I'm honestly surprised that they didn't just say, "Okay, think of ways to fool this robot, and for every way you think of, you're gonna do several days of it to train the robot for this shit. Get multiple teams for it. Get 30 something teams and get them all to do a single day of training for each insane idea they come up with. After that if the enemy is clever enough to out-ridiculous 30 teams of Marines then they fucking deserve to win.

    If the robot sentry forces the enemy to advance in such a way that is either very visible to humans or very slow, then it actually have done an adequate job. No solution needs to be perfect, a mixture of multiple solution, however, can be far more effective. Combined arms is a thing for a reason.
    I think what the robot really need to be able to do is pick up traditional sneaking methods that humans might miss. Then the combination of human and robot would be great.
    The real question is the cost. As mentioned, additional responsibility in ensuring equipment don't fall into enemy hand is a thing. If the benefit does not outweigh this cost, then it's not worth it.

    Live commentary as I watch. It will seem a little choppy and messy, but i won't edit to keep it real:
    1) Boots on the ground with a high-tech piece of equipment? Yeah. I would probably be worried that it would be spotted. But, a drone is so loud. Is this not a better option? Are you saying the concern is your brain has the ENTIRE mission and you also have to think about this piece of tech you aren't allowed to leave behind in any functional state? Ok, I think I get what you're saying here. If I were moving on an urban target; 3 buildings deep, and 1 floor up. Yes, this would be a concern. But, maybe it can be silent? If you can hug a corner, keep the gears quiet (housing?) and still get images that help you? Ok, let's do it. Moving on...
    2) Is it really that important to get every single piece of comms? I ask because there are so many elements. I'm impressed by our soldiers that they can keep that priority top of mind aside from all the other stuff the mission demands. Are we asking too much of these soldiers? So, now we come to the hilarious AI training the Marines did. Sommersaults? Sure....
    3) Singleminded AI seems to be falling a bit short. For reference... the human brain is considerably more complex than the entire observable universe.

    The growth of AI and drone warfare is kind of terrifying! The sure fire way to defeat most modern weapons is an EMP. An easy way to create an EMP is a nuclear weapon, especially if a nuclear armed side is losing. Like honestly Ukraine is embarrassing Russia, they have sunk a third of the Russian Black Sea fleet and they don't have a Navy
