Just saw them last night in LA. AMAZING SHOW! I think the girls were genuinely surprised by how enthusiastic the room was. They all came out with determined looks, and by halfway through the first song the looks had changed to surprise, and then smiles. Akane spent the whole time laughing her way through the drum parts. If you watch "Onset Live" you'll see what I mean when she does her little solo during it. That was her for the WHOLE show! The uniforms have changed a bit. Misa (the bassist) never exactly wore a maid outfit. It has evolved since this video. And the main vocalist has a much better outfit now than then.
so many good band-maid songs, I don't even know where to start. I'd reccomend checking out their live footage. Moratorium and Play are both really good performances.
I believe some fans of Babymetal discover Band-Maid through the recommended section of TH-cam. I ask some Babymetal fans how they found Band-Maid and they seem to confirm my assumption. Babymetal plays a huge role in serving as a Gateway to many Japanese bands like BandMaid, Aldious, Dollbox, etc.
Exactly how I found them. I'm not exactly big on Babymetal (I am sad I never got to see them live before Yui left), but I'd watch videos to get a giggle, and then 6 weeks ago Band-Maid showed up as a recommendation. DOWN the rabbit hole I've gone! Holy **** there are a lot of good J-rock/metal bands! Band-Maid is still my favorite (the drumming is just within reach if I can only find time to practice more than 20 minutes a day), but I am SO glad Babymetal got big enough to lead me to this!
Band-Maid has performed in Sapporo. A venue called Penny Lane 24. Outstanding live performers. They go all out. Their early stuff was apparently suggested by their label but their later stuff is composed by Kanami the lead guitarist with lyrics by Miku with contributions by Saiki. Lots of good suggestions in the other comments. I'd add the softer Daydreaming and Anemone. Presently they are touring Europe.
@@DecvsJapan thank you. What an absolute joy to have discovered this band. There is a strong element of cosplay in their presentation but l swear after listening to the music for five minutes your not thinking about their style of dress. @@DecvsJapan l think there is a huge difference between the two. Babymetal is very interesting and for me, very enjoyable. The difference is Babymetal is a manufacturered group wherein very talented studio musicians are fronted by three young girls who all have great stage presence. I consider BM as an act as compared to a band. Example: the Beatles were a band in every sense of the word. The Monkees were not. But the Monkees still managed to play a couple of tunes that were not bad for the times and written by Boyce and Hart. So, for me Babymetal are the Monkees and BM is the Beatles. In this instance there are many other favorable comparisons. Like writing your own music. Producing your own music. And playing your own instruments. Not to mention obvious chemistry. I am not saying Band-Maid is as good as the Beatles. I am saying there is no one in their league anywhere that l have seen since Guns and Roses Appetite for Destruction. And these beautiful ladies are more talented than GNR. One last point: many groups have a talented individual in that group that is a standout. Randy Rhodes for Ozzy or the band is built around the star like with Hendrix. But everyone of the members of Band-Maid brings something to the table. A band is only as good as their weakest link. There are no weak links to be found anywhere in Band-Maid in my opinion. Happy New Year.

Miku (second vocals, rhythm guitar) worked in a maid cafe, and she had this quirky idea that it would be cool to start a band of maids. Ha, cute. Well, she went about recruiting members, who recruited each other, and Band-Maid was formed. Miku was the lead singer, but she decided to hire a different singer (Saiki) and take up guitar (she's a relative novice at guitar). Basically she's the brains and the direction behind the group, as well as being the main lyricist. Smart cookie. Kanami (lead guitar) writes most of the music. She, Misa (bass), and Akane (drums) are all really gifted musicians, and Kanami comes up with hooks like they're just dangling in front of her. Makes for a great hard rock group verging on heavy metal at times that goes off on these occasional hardcore punk type tangents but with an amazing pop sensibility behind it all. Many people have noticed over the last couple of years that they don't really seem capable of writing a bad song. I mean, every band has the occasional turkey, but Band-Maid apparently aren't every band. I really like them a lot, and each album is better and a bit heavier than the previous one. Brilliant group. Choose Me is my favourite Band-Maid song so far and really shows off Kanami's guitar chops. Dice, which is heavier is great as well, and Domination's even heavier and is a scorcher. I highly recommend all three. It's funny how so many people found Band-Maid through Babymetal via youtube, but whatever works. I appreciate how you actually watch the thing instead of pausing every 10 seconds, or staring off somewhere else at another screen, or yapping through it, etc. Great reaction, very enjoyable.
Miku thought up the idea for the band when she worked in a Maid Cafe. It is a contrast and a work uniform as when they are not performing they change into regular clothes and no one knows who they are and they can go about being normal people. As Miku stated early on, we are not an idol band, judge us on our work. They are still around and growing in every way.
There was a rock group many years ago called the Busboys and they dressed like waiters in a restaurant. There are restaurants in Japan where the servers dress like maids. Check out Band-Maiko where they dress as Geishas. Amazing band.
