Been watching F-1 since 2003. Hamilton is tied with Schumacher for 7 championships. He's slightly ahead in most other stats. The difference is Schumacher is often mentioned as a great driver but Hamilton is often referenced as having the best car, best team, having more fuel, etc. Don't forget the racism he experienced in Spanish GP 2008.
It's clear you weren't watching F1 before 2003. Schumacher, back in 2003, already had driven some dominant (Ferrari) cars. However, he had to rebuild Ferrari from the ground-up as Ferrari weren't champions since 1979. When Schumacher joint (in 1996) it was the worst car in years (5th team on the grid), and he really made some incredible drives (Spain 1996 standing out the most). My point: Schumacher did not walk-in to a championship ready team and had to spent a lot of blood, sweat and tears (and had to overcome numerous disappointments) to become champion again. These are just facts. Just as it is a fact that is was a public secret that Mercedes had the best engine in the V6 Turbo Hybrid era which makes Hamiltons transfer to Mercedes by no means comparable to Schumachers 1996 Ferrari move. This is not hate to Hamilton but just to give some more historic background on why people are saying different things when it comes to the comparison of Schumacher vs Hamilton.
@basdollevoet2824 I already said since 2003...goodness me! McLaren had issues with the engines when Lewis got there. It further permeated since his departure. He did have a lot of input in Mercedes throughout. I've seen documentaries where the engineers and Toto talked about Lewis's recommendations. Let me track back to his early carting days when people will tell the organization they did not want a Black kid on the tracks -talk about overcoming staunch adversary on something he has no control over. I'm a huge Schumacher fan, but I can look at YOY historical data and draw clear inferences on their stats. Not everyone is illiterate.
