A match between Sting and Muta would have been great. A match between Funk and Flair, would have been more than great. Why was there a need to have all four of them in the ring with an "electrified" cage?
5:40 that is 100% pure amazing Wrestling. A jacked up Terry Funk and Gary Hart standing next to him. I’m watching whatever match they’re going to be at, brotha.
If I'm not mistaken the cage was supposed to set off sparks but that had to be nixed once the decorations proved to be a fire hazard (before the match even began).
I'm shocked they didn't say that the fire damaged the device that was supposed to electrify the cage. If the fire was planned like some say it would be the perfect out.
The fire wasn't planned. There was supposed to be sparks and pyro coming from the cage during the match, but they were forced to nix that idea at the insistence of the fire marshals, who were not happy about the fire hazard. If Muta hadn't put that fire out, the pay per view may have been stopped completely.
They had Pillman in the hunt early with big matches against Flair and Luger but then after a couple years they kinda squandered his talent. He did a lot of great things but was capable of so much more, he had to basically take control of his career. My favorite all time wrestler, will never be another like him.

You're an underrated hype man, and that's rare among wrestling critics. Or any critics. Any chance of covering Great American Bash '89? Scott Keith called it his favorite PPV of all time. And I've been curious whether or not it lives up to the glowing review he gave it. Nobody else seems to ever talk about it. Or anything late 80's, in general. Halloween Havoc '89 was available on VHS dubbed in german by Williams and Brack. The tape was heavily cut and contained only three bouts.
@@Steuerknueppel I had/have a couple of VHS PPVs from 89-92 or even 94. I actually don't recall what language they are in. They are buried somewhere in the attic.
I think I only watched Catch Up a few times for some reason. Maybe that timeslot was bad for me.
I love that L.O.D/RW background. It reminds me of the NES game. My Friend and I's first introduction to WCW.
“Speaking of Ric flair, here’s the helicopter spin” 🤣🤣 golden
A match between Sting and Muta would have been great. A match between Funk and Flair, would have been more than great. Why was there a need to have all four of them in the ring with an "electrified" cage?
My god, the contempt in Brian's voice when he said 'The Dynamic Dudes' was so thick you could cut it with a steak knife.
Remember kids, like JR said, stay in school. Perhaps one day you'll speak as well as Michigan graduates the Steiner brothers!!
5:40 that is 100% pure amazing Wrestling. A jacked up Terry Funk and Gary Hart standing next to him. I’m watching whatever match they’re going to be at, brotha.
The main event in 1989 was awesome even when we were mad that it wasn't really electrified but sting made that fucking match.
Greatest impersonation of rick steiner ever
Got the Dynamic Dudes and the Skyscrapers on the same card huh? Jesus christ, thank god for the Steiners and Doom.
Thank you so much for this series Brian!
Phenomenal review Brian. You were hilarious with the rather wregretful material WCW had on offer.
Oh shit, that is a good Solie impression
Finally got around to this. It's always a trip seeing these past ppv's. Great review like always B!
If I'm not mistaken the cage was supposed to set off sparks but that had to be nixed once the decorations proved to be a fire hazard (before the match even began).
It's so good seeing cornett I wish he would make a comeback
I give you props for watching the first hour of this show without falling asleep. The most entertaining part was the Philly Audience.
Fan: Can we have Brian Zane?
WCW: We have Brian Zane at Home.
Brian Zane at home: The Z-Man!
They had Pillman in the hunt early with big matches against Flair and Luger but then after a couple years they kinda squandered his talent. He did a lot of great things but was capable of so much more, he had to basically take control of his career. My favorite all time wrestler, will never be another like him.
"Speaking of Flair, here's Sid with a helicopter", Gordon Solie sandbagging Luger, and The Steiners promo 😆😆😆😆
I love events in the unforgiving Philly. They honestly let you know how they feel about what they're witnessing in the ring.
I have been waiting for this review since this series started! I love this Thunderdome Cage Match!
Great job of covering the hits and misses of late 80's NWA/WCW - this was before I started watching, but you got me invested in it all, anyways.
Say what you will about the bad WWF rip-off that replaced the favorite show of the "smart marks", but at least it was memorable. The Thunderdome cage, Robocop, Black Scorpion, Shockmaster...it's all like satire.
