Very interesting, such an important role, in maintaining a world leading legal system.

Hello, I’m 56 and stared my desire to be a barrister with my law degree at UKC back in ‘99. Personal and financial issues totally scuppered me but I did really enjoy a successful three years defending possession proceedings ( with permission) in the county court for a Housing Advice Charity and then went on to teach law. Do you think it’s too late for me now and would I need to be financially advantaged?

It’s never too late as cliche as that sounds. I know people who are older than you and are doing their LLBs! All you’ve to do is the BPC and apply for Pupillage. Do what you love because you’ll do your best at it. Don’t hold back - Good luck 😊

You can apply for scholarships / bursaries, but consider if you can make your application for these financial awards persuasive enough, i.e. showing you want to be a barrister. This will depend on what you have done since you did your court work. You've stayed in the legal sector by teaching law which shows your motivation is absolutely there. I would recommend applying for work experience opportunities at Chambers and perhaps court marshalling, to wiggle your way back into the legal profession. Taking the BPC is a big financial commitment.

Where is the Q&A session of this talk? I'd be very interested to watch it.
