Yeahhh I meant to say potential energy. Kinetic energy would be in motion. It's been a long time since physics class, but still no excuse.
Lets take a look at what would be a piece of crap, but for the functionality as a component, could make some quickly deployable armor and shields.
The automatic expandable baton may be cheap, but it saves me a ton of time in developing and manually machining a mechanism as such. *BANG BANG* You hear gun fire...**CUSHIIIINK* at the press of a button your shield is deployed. Yeahhhh, at least its suppose to work that way. This is still just a work in progress...

Make it so it shoots bb's then attach it to an umbrella and go. To an air soft field. Also but a little sight or something to aim with going threw the top

I would really enjoy watching you build things and how you do it, because even if your learning how to do something, that just means it's even better for someone like me. If an expert is showing how to build something he might pass over certain aspects because he thinks they are to simple, and everyone should know them. Where as if people learn with you, building steps might get skipped over, but that just creates a need to learn more on how to do better next time.
You should change your name to Mr_Wise or something. I seriously love that you're realizing this. We can all learn together! :D
that would be great! I really enjoy learning new things and your projects are a perfect way for me to do just that, so if you added you learning as you went, we could truly all learn together, which I think would create a very interesting community. And just be all around fun!

G3AR - 'GreekGadgetGuru' if you've ever been around mechanics, that happens a lot. it almost seems like runoff if creators and fixer's will and drive energy.
I think a good object to take the idea of a deployable shield from is probably an umbrella, just a mini version or maybe that could be another build as a 2 in 1 sorta thing, like it serves as an umbrella but is also secretly a shield, i think that'd be pretty cool to see just keep up the good work.
I feel like if you want to make a staff you shouldn't weld the to batons together. Instead you should try to find a way to make the detachable, one second you have a staff the next you have two batons. Like a Daredevil or Nightwing weapon (there you go now you have a way to connect it to a popular comic hero) :)
I think that spring would be perfect for either Robin's bowstaff (also mentioned by the worker) OR Corvo's Sword from Dishonored.

Sigh if you are going to use physics terms like, "Kinetic energy", make sure you are using the right terms. The springs in the baton don't store kinetic energy, they store potential energy. when you activate the baton the potential energy --> kinetic energy.

Well, its Elastic potential energy, but since it could be a spring or pretty much anything similar, its easier just to say Potential energy
Car windows are pretty blast resistant to blunt objects, put a steel spike on the end and you have a glass buster!

for a deploy-able shield, you could stack them end to end and have a tower shield.
If you could find a way to almost double it like a police baton so it springs out both ways and you hold it like in a pinch, when activated it would open to protect the forearm (someone tries to strike down on you, you got defence) but also springs outward so you can attack

Maybe if you attatch the two batons to the two shield pieces that are the furthest away from your arm and have the shield open in two places eg 1 baton opens half and and the other opens the other half. This would spring the shield open really quickly. It would be easier to show you but do you get what I am saying?
Is there any way to modify this thing. I've got one, and the locking mechanism on the handle causes it to not feel good in my hand. Just being able to press a button will be fine

if you used more of them you may be able to make robin/red Robin's extendable bowstaff
instead of having a spiral deployable shield, instead you should make it extend strait forward like more of a wide deployable bracer

This really helped for a vision on a project I was thinking on! Also I think the shield should be a deployable riot shield. Like I understand that it's supposed to be based on a Percy Jackson style of shield, but to keep it simple, I think a riot shield is the way to go with those.
I agree. I think it makes more sense for the armor plates to slide linear over each other.
idea! maybe use some sort of expanding material encased in a bladder that gets inflated when you puncture a co2 canister and inflate the material! just an idea, but it also could probably be improved by maintaining an internal pressure above 3 atmospheres than outside! like how a soda can stays hard! look up the engineer guy's video on soda cans!
and if you make a shield, Maybe if you add a small internal flywheel you could use the rotational energy to open it really fast!

so i was thinking you should do a square or rectangle shield instead of like your round on but keep the design with the sliding plates and such and have it go all the way down your forearm
there's this show on Netflix called RWBY and this one guy has a shield that expands horizontally. You could use 2 of those things and face them in opposite directions and so both sides expand from the middle
Why would you use a "vertical" spring and not a "circular" one. I dont know how to explain those springs better. It should be pretty self explanatory. I mean, you want to make a circular movement why hassle with that type of spring instead of one that is meant to do exactly that ?
Also it should be a no brainer that people would enjoy watching you go through the machining process lol.
The concept of it rotating doesn't really make sense. I think making something more like origami style that would open up would work better, or just have pieces slide over each other like the deployable shield in rainbow six

look at what I taught myself and im making a team because I haven't documented everything I've studied we need to talk amongst ourselves to see who else may be with us we are all out there creating things to help protect we just need to come together
What if you set it up so that if you hit something with your fist it comes out. It could be like another punch.
A staff/spear wouldn't be pretty awesome.
As for using as a shield, maybe like a gauntlet that has stacked plates on the firearm and knuckles on the end. It could fan out a bit to make a wide buckler style shield.
can you change system of Friction Loc Baton to collapsible Baton? like a ASP Talon Disc Loc Baton

I personally think you should try to recreate it with steel or if you can titanium because I'm pretty sure titanium is lighter ,but overall this is really cool
Fredrick Costantini titanium is extremely expensive. Like a piece the size of my Deployable shield would be like $2000 or so
the energy stored inside the baton is potential energy not kinetic energy. when you push the button and it starts to open up you can speak of kinetic energy
I wish someone would make a push button tent for camping lol. little cube or pyramid that just expands to a 2 person tent instantly.

Maybe a deployable shield that isn't round but rather rectangular and opens vertically, like a gauntlet at first then widens like those sliding doors. Hard to explain english isn't my first language

What about extending it so the mech will work like Gambit's bo staff. The hard part is how to extend it and have it lock yet be easy to collapse. I know you said it would be hard but I know you can do it

you could make a gaunlet/arm piece that opens both up and down at the same time making kind of an oval arm shield attached to your forearm??
something that fans out with a CO2 canister or even the springs. if it was a thicker metal I would say get a more powerful spring and add like a string to the end of both sides that fan out and through the system so you have an easy mechanical way to pull it back into a gauntlet

Maybe you can like get 2 of them and connect the the shield plating between the two and then beyond that maybe it can be wrist mounted but that would make for a pretty small shield so I don't know and maybe you have no clue what I'm talking about
You could show this to the government as well was the chain mail printed armor and deployable shield for riot gear

I think a layered shield might be possible here, but I'm not sure how... as for a staff, I think a Canary-style bo-staff would be feasible. maybe make the join magnetic (neodymium?) for easy use as eskrima sticks when broken apart.
Micah Tow a staff wouldn't work with escrima like segments of they were magnets! might seperate from too much force, Maybe he could do an grooved internal part where he could fit a section of the other half into and the turn on a electromagnet? would only work for two halves doh.

Micah Tow that was my first thought too! :) but I feel like it would take too long and be slightly cumbersome! when I said grooves I meant like a deeper version of rifling grooves! :) let's brainstorm more!
drex 2580 good idea with the riflings, but if you went to swing it in staff mode, it would fly apart if you didn't have a grip on both sides of the join... I imagined something like a NERF barrel attachment, where you slide and twist. thoughts?
or, what if we had an attachment like on an air hose? you know, slide and it separates, and just smack them together and they stay!
