Can't wait to try it. I, too, am a gardener and have pressed many specimens, but this yields quicker results. I, too, have had to stop and rest because of back problems. My next project will be the accordion. book. Can't wait! Thank you for the demonstration and motivation!
I'd like to see how you made the book. Also, I totally love the keeping it real! My studio looks like this all the time and it's always bugged me that social media artists tend to present themselves and tidy and organized. We all know that creativity often involves chaos as the result!
Beautiful prints. I have watched lots of gelli printing. This technique is different than ones I've seen. I like it a lot and can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for reminding me that I have a gelli plate ! I went a bit bonkers with it when I first got it, then put it away as I was nearly buried in the amount of prints lol. Like you, my workspace gets interesting - I had the brilliant idea a couple of months ago to shift my 'studio' from the box room upstairs down to the unused dining room. Now I've finally shifted everything and just started painting again yesterday 😊 - can't find the little things! I know I'll get there, but I can tell already that I shall soon have a larger chaotic workspace. Maybe it's just me 🌝 thanks for sharing your lovely ideas, I must dig out my gelli plate - I know it's here somewhere..
It’s definitely not just you. I’m trying to get into the habit of tidying up at the end of the day - I don’t always manage it but I’m always pleased when I go in there again! So glad you’ve enjoying the content. Catherine x
Very nice, thank you! I've been avoiding buying a gelly plate for years, but I've got a feeling a can avoid no longer. I have the same situation. When I start making something I start pulling out so many supplies that my work space gets smaller and smaller!
Thank you so much for the awesome art lesson! Your works are beautiful. I am also doing some leaf prints on my gelli plate. I aspire to make some good ones too, following your examples.
Your prints and color combinations are so beautiful and inspiring! I was thinking about making some small journals with printed covers. I made a sheet pan sized gelly plate and thought how beautiful it would be to make some large prints with different leaves and frame them for Christmas gifts. Thanks for the inspo😁
Thank you! This was really great to see. I am familiar with all, but not plants and am anxious to do this. I love your choice of colors. And your studio is wonderful!
Wow, this is great! Thank you for showing the steps. The prints are gorgeous! How long does each of the two drying steps take (approximately)? I‘d love to see a tutorial on how to make the „accordion display“. Great video.
Thank you! If you’ve put a thin layer down the first layer dries in just a couple of minutes, you can touch it gently with your finger just to make sure. The top layer takes a bit longer and you really want to add some pressure. I often put a couple of books on the paper and do something else for 4 to 5 minutes. Once you’ve done a few you get more of a feel for it.
I'd love to know how to make the book - I love making books. Love gelli plating too; although I've never been successful with letting it dry - probably too impatient. I'll have to have another go. Thank you for sharing.
That was brilliant to watch, thank you sooo much, would love to see how you make the book too, I love geli prints especially the leaves, I do ‘Cynotype printing’ using very fine grasses on a blue background on my geli plate, they come out really well. 😊
I love the prints! Years ago I took a small folding table out intro the garden to gel print and it was wonderful! Picking the leaves as I went was fun and I was amazed at the results! Metallic paints mixed in was so fun! Now I want o do out in my studio but it is too full! Yours is completely functional I love this book, too. I love making books and wold love to see how you did yours! New subie, by the way..
@@acreativegarden I do love making books... I just need to paint and print more on a consistent size so I can bind them instead of having piles here and there! I've been using an inexpensive watercolor pad that is 7x10 inches and folding that in half is a great small sketchbook size to stick in my purse!
Thank you so much for the instruction and for sharing your studio!!! I just found you! Can't wait to try this! Beautiful examples and love your garden! Your zinnias were beautiful. My faves! I intermix zinnias with my veggies but am now tempted to designate one whole bed to flowers and put some foxglove in there. One question, do you let the paint dry on the gel plate before placing the paper and then do you let the paper dry to the gel plate before lifting?
Hi Paula - thank you for your kind words! Yes that’s right - let the first layer of paint dry, it’s such a thin layer that it doesn’t take long. And also yes you want the second layer to dry on the plate so it will pick up the first layer. If you have the patience it’s a good idea to leave it for a few minutes, I try and get on with something else in the meantime. If you peel one corner up carefully you can tell if it’s worked and replace it if there’s still some paint on the plate. Hope that clarifies - Catherine x
Just chanced upon this video and it's amazing! Do you have a tutorial on this, detailing the supplies required. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful art.
I'm seeing you do this. But when the bottom layer is applied with leaf print. Then the contrast paints placed. & rubbed in with brayer ?? How does it not erase the furrows of the leaves ??? What type of paper are you using ???
Hi. New subscriber here. Love this process. I’m in USA. Do you have a link for Geli mats? (I haven’t looked at all the info yet just thought if I was gonna buy one). Mainly wanted to say I love your scrap paper art too! Especially the black one, Chrysanthemum? Just beautiful. Look forward to binge watching all your videos
Hi Dawn - thank you so much for your kind words! The black & white print was a dahlia from a photo of one in my garden. Don’t worry - most of the scraps get used in other projects. Here’s a link to some gel plates: tinyurl.com/bdffvdeh Catherine x
Yes it is acrylic. You can use watercolour on a gel plate but it wouldn’t be great for this method as you won’t get as much detail but it always worth experimenting!

Been trying to sort my space out for 4 years, haha.❤🇦🇺
Thank you for both keeping it real and for such a wonderful demonstration! I’d also love to see how you made the book too.
Glad you enjoyed the messy studio! Planning a book video. Cx
Love your leaf prints and the use of orange, a colour I would never have chosen but so effective!
Thanks so much Julie. Cx
I believe the book is called a corsitina. Thenk- you for the demo.

Thank you so much!
I use childrens old cardboard books from the charity shop. Just rough the pages with very fine sandpaper. ❤🇦🇺
Ooh that’s a good idea!
I'd love to try this with a sunflower leaf after my flowers are done blooming.
I'll definitely try this! Have to go raid my brother's yard, but yes this looks fun!!
Let me know how you get on! Catherine
Some of those pages that you used to press down on, were quite interesting with the extra paint on them.
Thank you. I tend to keep everything and often use them as a base for something else.
Love it. You also live in a beautiful part of the world
Thank you and yes, I’m very lucky.
Absolutely fabulous!!!
Thank you so much!
that was a good show

Great activity. Could these leaves be printed onto canvas instead of paper?
Yes definitely but use something with a close weave so you get as much detail as possible.
