I caught the NS SD40-2 and N&W that same day with Gavin, it was beautiful hearing that nice RS3L. These horns are my favorite, but K5LLA's are also cool to hear.
I’ve never gotten to hear a Leslie before. Sadly I’m in MN where there isn’t spots where you can sit there all day and watch the trains a lot only have 1 train a day. And a lot of quiet zones so you barely get any horn action here in MN
I got a chance to here 649’s RS3L last summer. It was sounding a bit raspy but yet it was still it’s one of the most soulful sounding horns I’ve ever heard and it was hauntingly nostalgic (especially at 4:30 AM).
Interesting that your thumbnail photo is actually a Prime 920, which is a copy of the Leslie S3L that has been retrofitted with Leslie RS back caps and diaphragms. It was quite common to do this as the original Prime parts wore out, retrofitting the horns with the RS parts gave them extra life. I have a former BN PM990 (the Prime equivalent of the Leslie S3K) similarly modified by the railroad and is an excellent sounding horn. I believe that such retrofits were just slightly more mellow than the original Leslie RS horns because of subtle differences in internal bell casting shape and how heavy the Prime castings are compared to the Leslie castings.
Ok, 1st, this is an Awesome video, and the RS3L's on Warbonnets are the best, 2nd I love the classic EMD sound, 3rd, Why are all BNSF GP's always leading really short trains?
Thanks. The Geeps are (mostly) leading local freights that travel at best 50-80 miles and do switching in industries and yards. They sometimes lead longer distance trains too if BNSF is short on power.

Leslie, the sound of the 90's.
8:07 that things engines are screaming
Amazing Warbonnet captures!
649’s and the NS SD40-2’s RS3L. The best RS3Ls I’ve heard in a very long time.
Excellent, nothing beats the Leslie KS3L airhorn blasting down the track with full freight and a nice fleet of freight diesels leading the pack.
Agreed, thanks
Great video! My favorite horn!
Thanks!

old horns are just cool, especially at a distance

There is SD30s with this horn some of them museum and short line running.
It's nice to see them in preservation
@@NorthlandTrains Can you go and find some NJ Transit Trains with RS3L?
We got some on the B&P
All of the Warbonnets, NS 6765.
All excellent!
I might be biased but my favorites where on the BNSF units.
I just don't understand why these horns have been replaced.
We got some on the B&P
Good job!
Thank you

I need some help. Can someone tell me what air horn type was used by Ontario Northland on their GP9 II diesel locomotives?
Nice
Thanks!
Keon's Trains you’re welcome man :)
NS 6775 is a really shitty RS5T
