    You never realized the complexity of a plane until you get in one and then it hits you as your looking through it how overwhelming it can be. Enjoyed seeing both planes and I loved the paint job of the face on the first one. Thanks guys!!.......

    It's planes like that that has great history and a story that goes along with them on what they went through that should be saved in honor of the veterans that flew that... it's a shame if they didn't get saved... Great video thank you

    Shackeltons were used by coastal defence, and most likely finding of downed aircrew, hence the marker flares, and lots of windows.

      also search and rescue , airbourne early warning, and anti submarine warfare. they had an amazing engine sound with 8 props , I was runway controller once and had to abort one take off as there appeared to be smoke emitting from starboard side of one aircraft. turned out to be the galley vent , impatient crewmember had put kettle on early !! slap wrist...lol oh the joys of 8 sqn.

      @@terrymoore7293 The planes in the boneyard aren't abandoned, they are in different forms of storage. Some can be put back into service in 24 hours while others may take a week, others are simply cannibalised for spare parts for the active fleet. In most cases, by law the planes are not allowed to be sold to private owners.

    when they were still in the RAF. Just as a point of reference for others. While stationed
    in the U.K. (1968 - 72) I was able to travel around and visit several old and abandoned
    WW II airfields and talk to some of the locals about the units there, both RAF and American.

    It’s heartbreaking to see the planes in such derelict conditions, particularly the Shackleton as there are very few of them still in existence. I can see some 50 years hence, a group of enthusiasts will try to rebuild this one to flying condition as have a few Lancasters. Ie: we have one flying in Canada, & just recently, they have started on a second one in Victoria, BC. But it’s a long way to certification.

    First aircraft is the Percival Sea Prince Tmk1 - used by the royal Navy's Air Fleet Arm and ths Royal Air Force as a Multi engined training Aircraft.for Maritime Reconnaissance crews, light transport and currency proficiency for Multi Engined rated air crews
    Percival built other aircraft for the RAF such as the Pison Provost training Aircraft which was a forerunner of the Hunting/Percival/BAC Jet Provost.
    2nd aircraft is the Avro Shackleton AEW mk 2 used as a mobile early warning and control aircraft. Powered but the same Rolls Royce Griffin engine that powered late models of the Spitfire. The "Shack" as it was known to crews had contra rotating propellors and it was usual practice for 1 or two engines to be shut down during flight to save fuel and extend tome on task. It was replaced in 1991 by the Boeing E3D Sentry.
    3rd aircraft is the Gloster Meteor F mk 7
    The Meteor was the first Opperational Jet Fighter Aircraft in the World entering service with the RAF in 1944. The F mk 7 was the first Meteors to be powered by the Rolls Royce Derwent Axle Flow Turbojet which was also used in the DeHavilland Vampire and Venom Aircraft. This particular aircraft looks like it ended its days as a target facilities aircraft towing canvas sheets in flight to allow other aircrew to check the accuracy of their commons.

    • @ianhudson9398
      @ianhudson9398 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    For all those bemoaning the state of the aircraft in this presentation examples of all these types are preserved in a number of collections. The examples here are way beyond saving and will undoubtably end up as scrap

    • @BrassLock
      @BrassLock 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whaaat? No plane is beyond the skills of many old geezers (still kicking bits of aluminium scrap off their workshop floor) who love restoration, given the opportunity. This would never happen in New Zealand, where they restore old war birds better than anywhere.

Thanks for sharing & so thoroughly. Awesome. Except for the poo room :D & I liked the smaller plane too.

    This is NOT an AVRO Shackleton was a Sea Prince as used by the navy, or 'Percival' As used by the RAF. The amount of vandalism displayed shows the mentality of the idiots who have visited the machine since it was dumped.It would be a good idea if the producers got hold of a Library book on British Aircraft, they could better identify the airframe. as every one knows, a Shackleton had FOUR engines to start with.!!! AGh yes, The one at the end was a Shackleton. What a shame to see it in this condition

    The Shackleton was used for coastal reconnaissance in the 70s. Painted blue to stand out.

      @mckendrick4046 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also carried torpedoes. 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. It was painted blue for camoflage from shipping against a grey cloudy sky. It carried flares to make it stand out from the surface of the sea. The tops were white to camoflage against a shiny sea. Late variations became AEW aircraft - superceded by the Boeing AWACS in 1991.
