I think the look is stunning and the Roen quad is always a winner in the neutral sparkle department. I love both neutrals and color, but have been in a heavy neutral phase this winter. I also consider peach, pink, mauve, taupe, and some greens to be neutral. I would be so bored if it was just various shades of brown. yessss sometimes i have to be intentional about something i want to buy and trying to dupe it in action! it can help me not want it anymore, or sometimes it confirms i still want the thing!
I personally love your final look. I was recently telling Audra, my neutrals are grounded more in the pink and blusher color families. Warm tone browns are always too orange on me, "neutrals" are often too yellow, and taupe is too grey. I wouldn't say that neutrals are easier to use, but more forgiving, especially for people who are intimidated by color. Plus, playing with neutrals is a great way to practice different contours and shapes without being overly concerned with color placement, theory, and blending. Once the shape and depth are in place, I then love to use a mid-tone pinky brown, salmon or coral based multichromatic formula as a topper. Because my skin is essentially translucent like a corpse, I can get away with a turquoise to violet shift as a "natural" highlight. Translucent, silvery violet shimmers work well for me as well.
pink and blushy neutrals, yes!!! i just don't love orange-y tones on me and i forget that every time i grab for "neutrals". and my undertones are also why i love mustard-y and acidy green-based "neutrals" because they blend out into my skin in a way that feels both 'seamless' and complementary. it's also why i love green highlighters on me!!!
The look is super cute! I relate to your neutral musings. I'm also not an all brown eyeshadow person. If I want to go "neutral" I'd stick to grey, mauve, mustard or olive. I also agree that neutrals doesn't equal effortless, especially low-contrast very blown-out looks that are touted as effortless. I find with those looks can look odd very quickly if the (under-)tones of the products don't match perfectly. For me it's often more intuitive to mix my brights to create custom neutrals rather than working with neutrals straight out of the pan.
yeah i have to remind myself neutrals don't have to be brown, especially when i'm reaching for them! and you're so spot on about how undertones can really ruin "easy" looks.
