So cool Kalani! Thanks so much. I’m making some to give to kids when I play my percussions... to encourage them to play. I liked the humor in the end. Lol
I have made several shakers from cigar tubes. They are different sizes and have various amounts of lead shot inside. You can use small sea shells also and add the innerds until you get get the sound you want. Then put some super glue in the cap and screw it back on. With the different sizes/sounds you can use them individually or hold two together for a more robust sound. They look kind of authentic too in Cuban cigar tubes 👍
mighty impressive - so much fun watching your tutorial. I am going to buy the yakult this coming week and make some for myself and my grandkids :) I look forward to watching more of your entertaining videos. Love the color of your wife's nail polish :)
This was awesome! I'm going to use what I learned in this video to make some shakers out of various domestic and exotic woods I have for my 2yo and 3yo daughter but I might try the bottle cork method too.
Very ya-cool-t! Love it. Great sense of humor! I have one metal Samba school shaker(ganzá) but it's too loud to practice at home....hehehe. I will make a more delicate one! Mostard seeds would sound great too I think.
Great tutorial, easy and fun to put into practice! For one of my newly built shakers, I used red lentils instead of rice, it gives a slightly darker, heavier sound.
Thanks Kalani - will be interesting to experiment with other materials like shot or BBs. Must be DIY Day - BlueBearFlutes just uploaded a video on making an ocarina from an empty TP tube!

I'm not an expert but I think in Brazil they use those huge shakers to play in Batucadas (those big percussion bands that perform on carnival parades). I guess the shakers need to be big in order to sound louder.
I wonder that a lot too. But at my church, I play the shaker in the band, I just listen to the song and feel the beat, I start moving the shaker to the beat, if it’s too slow of a tempo, and too hard to maintain a rhythm, I sit that song out. But I just tend to listen and feel the beat. It takes practice.
Do you have a lesson about playing shakers? I mean, it seems that playing them is super easy but in reality it's not. Just grabbing one and shaking one sounds messy.
The final product ends up looking like something from a factory. No one will notice this is diy if you make these and sell them on Amazon or something 😂😂
This is so true I have made three sets of these so far and I’m working on the fourth set. I have two that I use and I made one for a Hispanic pastor that comes to our church every now and then to fill in playing the drums. I showed him my shaker, and he said oh that’s really cool, Where did you get it? And I said I made it, and he said no way! And he said would you make me one? And I said I would be honored! So I made him one and I decorated it and gave it to him on Easter Sunday and then he asked me if I would make him another one, but he wanted specific colors, so I am working on the second one for him as we speak. He was so excited to get the first one, and mine I make the two and tie them together like he shows in the video because they’re louder and I play the shaker in my church band.

Great! It's also nice that it involves recycling and drinking something healthful.
No way! Never knew it was made from a yakult bottle. Ty for the tutorial.
Finally found some Yakult drinks, made some shakers today, waiting for epoxy to dry, then will decorate, these look and sound great!!

Thank you for recommending Yakult, it improved my digestion.
I left the whole cork in to avoid dampening the sound. Great project. My little one loved it!

Wow
You could 1st spray the shaker with gray primer. Then, the colored paint will have something to bond to and save the drudgery of sanding.
After the experiment at the end, do you have Yakult knowledge?
I certainly hope so.

😂 Don't ly to your wife, please. Well done shaker thank's from Germany.
By sheer coincidence I bought an 8 pack of yakult for the first time in my life yesterday, what’s the chances 😁
Thanks, Kalani! Great ending, too!
I do my best to entertain!
Filipinos can definitely make it
how to combine one shaker with another shaker, I want to make a double shaker please help🙏
Rubber Band
What would be the best alternative for the cork? I can't afford to buy bottle of wine.
Hello Can I ask what songs a I can perform with the shakers?
All my tears, jars of clay
I wonder that a lot too. Cool
What store can you get these bottles from?
👍

First view shout out
better using rice or sand?
Either one. Try different grains
Hi, thanks for the tutorial. I was curious if you've experinented with other grains or seeds for different sounds?
What can I use instead of a cork?
Wooden Dowel
Hi. What if i don't have a cork?
Try wooden stick or dowel
Can I use gluegun?
You can but be careful because the heat will melt the plastic.
The way he said yakult was deep
Sweeeeet

I am now slightly annoyed about all the Yakault pots I have grown away in the past!! Moreover that I nearly purchased the LP version a while ago!!
Im gonna buy all the probiotic yogurt drinks to make the biggest shaker
Oh and wine corks and rice
Send me a photo or vid and I'll post it.
won't the rice stink overtime
No, but your playing might if you don’t practice!
🤣
This could have been a 2 min video.
First
