Pretty interesting stuff….My late Grandfather was a WW2 Merchant Marine and joined up at 16. He did North Atlantic convoys. He loved being at sea, being hunted by uboats not so much. I have his merchant seaman passport he carried during the war…..

Are you able to get shore leave on every port/stop or only some ports? Would be very helpful if you could make a short video to explaining the situation out on sea and the realities of what is currently going on. I heard there are difficulties swapping crews on certain ports and what usually takes place when a situation like that arises? Hopefully you’ll make a vid on this or just answer my questions here. I’m almost complete with my credentials and some insight of what’s going on will be greatly appreciated. ✌️

Is everyone an apprentice at entry? Cause I did a little digging and on the site it said the siu has three departments. Steward, engine and deck. My cousin does deck, my uncle cooks. My cousin recommended me engine. So I had to ask how the entry level work?
