I just stumbled across this video after doing a number of different engine swaps in different chassis. I just went and bought three Hanes manuals from my local parts store at paid a grand total of $6. The diagrams in the back are worth every penny

Awesome video, teach us how instead of doing a full how-to video. Lots of respect, thank you for making this video. I learned how to do wiring out of the manual in high school auto shop, this was a good refresher, and good to see that the ALH isn't that daunting, I've got a parts car ALH that was wrecked, I'd like to wire it up standalone so I can build something cool. ALH TDI buggy? Yes!

@@DoWhateverfilms ill have to dig my harness out and look it over again. i think i need the dash side of the harness / fuse box. been told the gas cars from 99-04 are roughly the same but cant confirm

In the Haynes and Bentley they look like the same fuse box between gas and diesel.

That was actually very helpful as I'm about to put my Alh into the back of an old vw sandrail. I have both the Bentley books but Haynes book for the win.

Thank you! Too many people try to keep it a secret so they can charge to do it for you. The alh really a pretty easy harness.

@@DoWhateverfilms I did a turbo diesel swap in my Samurai few years back and now that engine is tired I was looking for a replacement but only ones I can find in supply are the electric controlled engines. Your video really helped to take some of the worries out of possibly going to that style of engine. Thanks for sharing!!

@@DIYWilly that's gotta be a fun swap! Imagine it with a tuned up tdi in there with 150 hp and 350 torque.

I usually keep the engine harness 100% stock and just add to the big ecu plug power ground key relay accelerator obd and that's it...
Stall(dead accelerator) is only for brake switches not conected.

That's awesome, I've done it this way so many times I haven't tried another way. I think my next swap will be a mk1 golf, and I'd like to try to make it more of a sock style wiring job.

@@DoWhateverfilms to me the mk1 golf/rabbit tdi is one of the most economical fun reliable and fast daily car you can get.

By connecting the brake switch wire does that mean to ground or to 12v? Thanks

Rocketchip or Malone. I like to stick with known good ones. Rocketchip has retuned an ecu for for 50 bucks after I fried it with power right on the battery terminal . He's awesome.
