He has a powerful presence and a deep,very expressive voice.His calm is admirable.Hiroyuki Sanada can be a very likeable gentle person or a very intimidating,frightening villain.Very few actors have that ability-his eyes are piercing and intense..
I've known him for almost 40 years, in films, since my childhood. Definitely one of my favorite Japanese actors. He and Shinichi Chiba are THE top martial arts duo in Japanese film landscape.
Hiroyuki Sanada is a boss and an absolute champion at what he does. So glad to see him cast as Scorpion in the new Mortal Kombat movie cause hes perfect for that role.

I red the story of Fusjisawa Shuhei and "TSOGARE SEIBEI" is great story and I am very happy to see this by movie and he acted Seibei was great!! Nobody can act "Tasogare Seibei" like he does! I use to watch a young Hiroyuki back in the 80's. He was a top martial arts actor out of Japan and starred in several iconic martial arts films in the 80's. I wonder what happened to him. When I saw him in the Last Samuria I did not know he was the same guy, looked older, totally different from his 80's movies. He definately aged well and brings an intensity to films....much better than during his youth.

It either becomes "Mr." or you just leave it out. Some advice for you from someone who worked as Japanese translator for some time ;) Best wishes
Mr. Sanada hurts me a lot in this interview. he was a child actor, but he didn't have a childhood. I have the impression that at that time he was unhappy, you can hear it in his voice. I also think that the role of the twilight samurai had a big impact on him.
