I first saw this man in a Japanese movie made in 1980 called Shoguns Ninja he is a very good fighter and actor he also sings the opening songs in the movie

He has a powerful presence and a deep,very expressive voice.His calm is admirable.Hiroyuki Sanada can be a very likeable gentle person or a very intimidating,frightening villain.Very few actors have that ability-his eyes are piercing and intense..
Hiroyuki Sanada is a boss and an absolute champion at what he does. So glad to see him cast as Scorpion in the new Mortal Kombat movie cause hes perfect for that role.

When I saw him in the Last Samuria I did not know he was the same guy, looked older, totally different from his 80's movies. He definately aged well and brings an intensity to films....much better than during his youth.
I also love his way to speak English and amazing his way of speaking English is so natural! I become Big fan of him after see the Twilight Samurai. I red the story of Fusjisawa Shuhei and "TSOGARE SEIBEI" is great story and I am very happy to see this by movie and he acted Seibei was great!! Nobody can act "Tasogare Seibei" like he does! I am proud of him!! Thank you!!
I agree his performance was the best in that film. He can express so much in his facial expressions. It was so disappointing that his character was killed off so soon....
+Vanessa rose (newyorkgirl24) Just a little heads up, it's either sanada san or sanada sensei, not sensei sanada san, that's too much ;) Also while a get that though you were trying to express your respect for him, you might be interested to know that when translating japanese to english, you never keep the "san". It either becomes "Mr." or you just leave it out. Some advice for you from someone who worked as Japanese translator for some time ;) Best wishes
Mr. Sanada hurts me a lot in this interview. he was a child actor, but he didn't have a childhood. I have the impression that at that time he was unhappy, you can hear it in his voice. I also think that the role of the twilight samurai had a big impact on him.
