Yup. Its classic late stage capitalism enshitification. Get people to use product (in this case youtube) then once they're super used to it, transition the users into the product (sell their videos ad spaces to advertising companies) whilst telling them they are the ones benefiting since they get some of the ad revenue, then you make it so the users have to appeal to set criteria to get the advertisers on board, whilst they tighten the reach of your content so you have to do more of what they/the advertisers/investors want to get the same revenue you got to start with. And then the demonitise for more & more things whilst keeping all the ad revenue until you're nothing but a dried up husk hoping for a little fix. And they forget the last step which is always collapse of the original product. But it happens eventually.

My first tattoo was actually a smiley face but the story is really cute. My boyfriend went in for a consultation and my mental health wasn't great, the artist noticed and ask if there was anything she could do. We jokingly said a free tattoo but she said "well I can't do it for free as my boss is in but I can do one for half price" so I now have a little smiley face on my hip and it always reminds me that no matter how bad things are, there is always someone who cares and wants to help. :)

The irony is we decided to get them after i was explainjng to her how my cousin wanted a matching tattoo with me, but we had agreed on everything except on what to get tattooed. So now i have a fox in black ink on my arm, and still trying to arrange with my cousin when to get our matching tattoo.
When the needle first touched my skin I just said "oh" because it felt like a mild scratch that didn't break the skin, the other tattoo artists thought i was in pain but i was just unimpressed, then the artist tattooing responded to my saying "i thought it was going to hurt" by whispering in my ear "that's because I'm very good at my craft" and I feel respect for that woman.

The thing is, that modern fashion girlies are interesting for advertisers, as they buy their stuff from various shops that might make other shops want to give youtube money to put their ad on the video, while it is much harder for youtube to get money from handcrafting and sewing things, not promoting to buy from shops that might want to advertise on your platform.
Honestly, I think there are some people that put effort in shitting on wholesome peoples content, and claiming 'indecency' on a lot of content, and depending on how much money youtube makes from the creator in particular, they act on it or don't.

When I started working on Minecraft, I spent the first week doodling different animals that could be added to the game (none of them have been) and one was a Box Tortoise. My partner and I were also struggling a ton with our mental health and we'd often find ourselves "sped up" and not taking time to breath and process. So they suggested we both get that tortoise tattooed as a reminder to slow down.

I got my first tattoo almost 3 months ago! I actually got it the day BEFORE i went to my state's ren faire lol.
I'd been thinking about getting this tattoo for 5 or 6 years now. It's the corona of the total solar eclipse from 2017. It's kinda color-inverted so the rays of light are in black and gray while the moon in the center is empty, negative space. It's hard to explain well in words, but it turned out amazing and I really love it.

I only have one tattoo, thus far, but the story is sweet.
My mom turned 60, I turned 30, I was leaving my homecountry, loads of other things and my mom got dementia. So we decided to celebrate our love for eachother and get reminders. So now if my mom forgets who I am (or if I develop dementia too later on) we will have a reminder that we love eachother.
So in one weekend, we went to a rave, my mom got my friends drunk, and both my mom and me got tattoos. It is two words in our language and basically translates to both "I love you" as well as "you better take care of yourself". My moms tattoo is written in my handwriting and my tattoo is written in my moms handwriting and we both got it around 15cm*3cm (aroud 6x1 inch) big on our sides, "close to the heart".

My first tattoo is a memorial tattoo for my grandmother that's a crescent moon behind a cloud, because she always said she'd sit on the clouds edges to watch us whenever she passed away. And I would describe the feeling as if you took a lead pencil and scratched it against your skin quite roughly, something along those lines.

I only have 2 tattoos so far, but I have many more planned! My first was an ankh, about two inches high, on my right shoulder blade. I asked the artist how it would feel. I figured it would be kind of dumb to ask IF it would hurt, so I just asked how it would feel. He said, "Like a warm cat scratch." I think I wanted to do something that I knew my ex-husband (we'd just recently divorced) would not approve of and getting a tattoo seemed to fit the bill. My second is on the inside of my left arm and I had a great time watching the artist do it. Now I just want more because I like them.
I've never heard of the picture books you mentioned! Are those accessible through museum collections online or something like that? I do industrial machine embroidery as my actual job and I'd love to digitize some historical designs based on ACTUAL historical designs. I learn so much from you and the other costuming TH-camrs, and I'm eternally grateful you all have chosen to share your knowledge with us :) I'd be just as thrilled as the people in the video to run into you at a Faire. But I'm in the dead center of California so that's not likely to happen lol
The demonetization stuff is garbage and it's getting out of control on here, unfortunately. You have every right to rant about it, no apology necessary. TH-cam makes a ton of money off of creators like you and they should put at least some effort into not driving good people off of their platform.

My first tattoo was a butterfly on my left shoulder in 2003, when I turned 23. The pain was a never-ending cat scratch. Since then I've gotten 4 more tattoos; each time the pain is less/ I handle it better.
I want to get a bouquet of poppies "under" the butterfly

As for tattoos, I'd say it felt kind of electric, but also kinda like a small bite. My first one was over the inside of the forearm and some sections I didn't even know if she was getting, but we also started right on that tendon that runs down the arm connecting to the middle finger and damn that was so much more spicy.

I got mine in the very early days of covid before things were shut down in my state. Yes it did feel like a cat scratching after a bit. I didn't cry but i nervous talked the whole time 😅 my husband held my hand during the whole thing. Getting this symbol has become a tradition of sorts for some people when they get official, but i was a huge chicken so i waited. My first tattoo was a Tudor rose. My Mum and I got matching tattoos on my 17th birthday (17 years ago). She pulled me out of school early, on a very cold and rainy day in October. What she didn't know when she made the appointment, was that the owner/artist was an addict. Yay.
She was an hour late, so we had to stand outside the shop with no cover from the wind and rain while my Mum called the shop again and again. We could hear the phone ringing from outside. Her toddler ran around the shop in nothing but a diaper the whole time. At one point, she left for almost an hour to go up to her apartment and get her fix. We got the tattoos and told everyone to avoid that place. It's gone, now

Regarding the feeling of getting a tattoo, it really depends on where you are getting it. The two on my lower leg were fine. My back (which has a lot of shading) burned like the devil, my wedding ring on my finger hurt very bad due to how bony my fingers are, but it was a short-lived pain, and my inner wrist was a bit sensitive as well. My only "interesting" tattoo story is my latest (the wrist one) that I got out of spite from my sister. Probably not the correct use of the term but I was just really pissed off about something she said and went and got a tattoo to make my stance VERY clear (LGBTQ+ support).

I have 12 separate tattoos but two of them were gone over twice, so technically 14 sessions, and one of them took three sessions to complete. So I've been in 'the chair' 15 times. My first was two butterflies for the 'butterfly project' with significant lyrics which I felt were fitting for my battle with depression and coming out of it at the time. My best friend wrote the lyrics so I have his handwriting immortalised (I just liked the way he wrote, a beautiful cursive, and he was more than willing to help me out). It's even more special now because he's no longer with us, and I will always have that love from my best friend with me forever. That particular piece was inked on me at midnight on my eighteenth birthday, by a family friend who'd been a tattoo artist for years and had never done a midnight session before, but agreed to do it for me that time and it was an amazing, fun, meaningful experience 🖤 my others are a mix of band related art for music that's affected my life in a significant way, such as the first band I went on tour with as a concert photographer (fulfilling my life's dream to be behind the lens, I'm also slowly going blind so it was a bucket list experience for me for sure. I turn up to concerts with my guide dog in tow and have become moderately successful over the last five years, a fact that I am eternally grateful for 🖤) all of my tattoos have a special meaning, including the runic initials of my son who is no longer with us (9 years today) and a long piece on my index finger, the one I use to guide my white cane/guide dog's harness handle, with her name (Olive) and an olive branch with nine leaves which I had inked on her ninth birthday. I believe tattoos are a beautiful way to commemorate things in your life that have meaning, and a way to carry them with you forever 🖤
This has become a bit of an essay, but if you've read to the end, thank you 😅🖤 I love your tattoo idea and will definitely be considering medieval woodcut art for my doggos when the time comes 🖤

My first tattoo was a tattoo of my cat. Just like you said, I wanted a memorial tattoo (and intend on only getting "memorial" ones to limit myself ahaha), but realized I would not be in the mood for it when she would pass away. My cat had been having kidney issues for 5 years and in her last year her state was more unstable (basically she had between a few months to a couple years). So I figured, I'll have a tattoo before she does pass out. It helped tremendously grieving but also preparing for it. Each time I'd feel alone and miss her, she was right on my forearm ! I also have a history of memory issues and a history of abuse (and my cat grew up with me through that, and passed away when I finally reached independence and total safety), and it helps me feel like I have agency over myself. Like this is *my* skin and *my* tattoo and each time I doubt myself, I look at it and feel warmth from the memories with my cat. She passed away 4 months after the tattoo, but even before that, if I were uneasy outside of my home, looking at it made me feel safe because my pets are my home.

As it healed it morphed slightly and got quite…phallic. I had to go to my friend’s cousin to get it fixed, I still have some scarring there and can sort of see the original tattoo. At the time I was a little sad, but now, at least I have a story.
Side note: I’m a little disappointed you aren’t getting a memorial tattoo (though VERY glad there is no call for it now) I’m working on my final master’s project and taking oral histories about people’s memorial tattoos. I find it fascinating who gets memorials, what they memorialize, and why.

I truly appreciate the level of snark in which you two went to! ❤

Rant away! Demonitizing historical images is ludicrous.

Hey Morgan. Congrats on your first tattoo! You never forget your first :) My first was an 18th birthday present to myself. I got a phoenix on my hip, and I got it done by the same artist who had done tattoos on both of my parents. It was really special.

love your new dog friend--great call on getting the tattoo now! i had the same idea, wanted a portrait of my dog but knew i wouldn't be in the right mindset when she actually left. well she passed a few weeks ago and i'm so glad i went through that before she left.

Yay, historic manuscript art tattoos! I have bass and treble clef dragons inspired by the Book of Kells. For a long time before actually getting them I knew wanted musical dragons on either shoulder. But, both because I was concerned that Asian style tattoos were light cultural appropriation, and because I am naturally contrarian and the style is very common, I looked to the knotted animals of Celtic manuscript art instead. (Not that I'm not a dork for Chinese and Japanese art and culture like most other nerds) I think I created something more unique, and more personal in what I feel is an underutilized art style for tattooing. P.S. Boo to the demonetization. And maybe next time the "naughty" and "nice" prizes could be pastries, perhaps?

My first tattoo was a memorial tattoo for my late husband -- a wolf and polar bear that he drew while I was deployed. My most recent tattoo, however, memorializes me being elevated to the order of the Laurel! It features my SCA name in a bindrune, encircled by a laurel wreath and a "stained glass" border. I loves it. If you want more work done, I can highly recommend my dude Matt Khan, at Saints and Sinners Tattoo in Hooksett, NH. :-D (Still hoping to see you at an SCA event around here sometime!)

I think of tattoo pain as sort of like scratches on a sunburn. I love the idea of memorializing the living - I also recently decided to get a tattoo of my living fur babies because I love my cats so stinking much. It turned out beautiful, and spooky, and it gives me so much joy that I can carry their faces around with me when I'm away from them!

I have only one tattoo (so far), which I got in 2018. It is of an eye from the video game sunless sea, and it happily lives on my inner left ankle as a subtle nod to a series of unfortunate events. I love that you also have greyhounds, I have one of my own and they are this perfect blend of historical, noble, and DEEPLY silly. And there are so many wonderful medieval woodcuts of them! Congratulations on your new Heraldic Beaft tattoo!
