Same thing with trans kids in school. They're trying to hide so many things that they're secretly doing to indoctrinate and deceive the population, and they want it all to remain secret until it's too late. I'm half white (my dad is Scottish Highlander, fair complexion, one blue eye, one green eye) and half Mexican (on my mother's side). I, however look Mexican, (olive skin, dark eyes, black hair). My father introduced me to sports at an early age and I played baseball and football, lettering in both in high school. I got scouted by the Cubs and the Royals but I felt the call to follow my father's footsteps and joined the US Navy instead of playing baseball for a living. I learned a lot about life in the years I was in the US Navy having been to 5 of the planets 7 continents and seeing combat on 4 of those continents. What does any of this have to do with DEI? Well, the fact is when I played sports like baseball, I was part of a team. No one on that team cared what your skin color was. The same is true with the small boat unit I was assigned to in the US Navy. No one cared how much melanin was in your skin. All that mattered was that I had your back and you had mine. If you really want racism to end, STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. My friends that I have today are a combination of high school and military men and they all range in skin tones. My best friend is a Jew, and we play golf every weekend (weather permiting) with 2 of our friends, one guy is black, and the other guy is hispanic. We don't care about our skin color, all we care about is each others character.

And it occurred to me the other day, back when we were all kids, playing video games and Dungeons and Dragons... Not ONCE did my ethnicity come up! Not once!!! They simply took me in, since I had moved cities after my Mum remarried... And that was that!
And now, some 30 years later, we all catch up in our annual reunion as if Time has stood still! Sure... Now that we are adults, we do talk about race among other things... But back then... Race simply wasn't a problem!
I'm all up for identity and all that jazz but, I personally think that identity has been radically overplayed! To the extent that it is now causing more harm than good!
I'd rather be with a bunch of people, in which my identity as a Black Man is largely irrelevant! My identity is important to me! But I don't feel the need to make my identity important to them also! Especially when they have their own identities to deal with!

I grew up in an all white neighborhood and all white schools. When growing up my father did not seem to care one way or another about race, but my mother in retrospect was very racist. I remember even repeating racist remarks to neighbors - that were white - only because they moved to our neighborhood from a black neighborhood and were not keeping up their lawn to "neighborhood standards." At a young age I had no idea what any of this meant, but it came directly from my mother. It wasn't until I went to college and developed friendships that I realized how wrong my mother was. One day, we were sitting in the shop eating our lunches and reading our newspapers. At this point, I had known Sly for about two years. I happened to look up from my paper and took note of Sly, and thinking what a good man he was, when I noticed something about him for the first time. Sly was black! How had I never noticed this. Upon reflection I realized that Sly had never done or said anything to draw attention to his race. I had to ask....
    "Hey, Sly."
    "Yeah?"
    "Why aren't you black?"
"There is no value in it, so I don't need it."
Sly, went on to say that he was raised in a very black neighborhood. He found he had to act our his "blackness" just to survive. When he was old enough to live on his own, he left the hood far behind, along with anything having to do with "blackness". Sly said he dedicated himself to being a good person and a good man, and not a black person or a black man. He did it so well, that I never noticed his skin color for two years!
I told Sly that I believed he had solved the race issue. He said he hoped so. Sly went on to say that the fires of racism would burn out as soon as everyone stopped throwing wood on the fire.

There are so many great comments here. I just want to take a moment to thank you for standing up against the DEl trends that seem to be draining the fun out of so many things we enjoy-movies, series, video games, and even children's toys. It's exhausting to see quality sidelined simply for being white, straight, male, or part of a traditional family, in favor of others chosen just to check certain boxes. Let's bring merit back.

I was the only individual with the guts to both in-person and online question the validity and usefulness of the propaganda I was being subjected to. I did this in a very fair, respectful manner, I will add. The very well paid, higher up admins -- a white man and black woman -- who led the "Collegial Conversations about Race" workshop were stunned and nearly silent, unable to respond in any honest, legitimate, meaningful, research backed manner to my questions. (Thank you, Thomas Sowell!) I tendered my resignation at the end of my second full year teaching AP Science classes (Biology and Environmental Science).
