Dear Dan, love your videos. As I may have said, I’ve just been to Arrowtown in NZ. The old Gold Town. I also visited the historic Chinese Miners Village. Those men were restricted to the tailings by the other miners. They lived in little (tiny!) self built stone cottages, grew vegetables and had their own community just beside the town. They worked SO hard, it must have been bitterly cold in the winter. They sent all their money home to family in China, they stayed years, many dying in NZ. Their bones were boxed and sent home for burial. Heartbreaking. Gold prospecting is a special “career” and takes a special person! I could probably manage a couple of days! 😊

That area is highly recommended for anyone interested in gold and history. Between the bullion pit mine, the town of likely, the fishing on Quesnel lake and then hitting the back road to Barkerville for a few days is a wicked experience. Great video BTW:)

I read a book about the Quesnel gold rush. I think it was called "Caribou gold". Its the history of the early days of the rush in that area. There's a story of the barbershop in Barkerville that was run by an African American from Los Angeles who was smiling all the time and was a friend to everyone. He was murdered in his barbershop and they never found out who did it. I could be wrong in the details of the story, but not the story itself. Its been fifteen years since I read the book. I remember a lot of stories from that book because it was such an awesome read that I read it many times. Thanx for the video Dan and Mark.

There's places in the Appalachians that have great gold. Head south into easten Tennessee. Stay away from land between the lakes. You shouldn't have much problem in the Appalachians in Kentucky and In North Carolina either. Just learn a bit about the geology of the spot your looking and talk to the old people, they know things.

I have never panned for gold but looking at these vids i cant help to wonder if it would not be faster to just do a rough shake in the pan and when u have a scoop full left dump in in a bucket. Then at bring that home to put it in a gold sluice. Ofc doing prospecting as you are today it makes sense to do pans!

40 years ago, lived in Quesnel for 15 or so years. My mother-in-laws’ boyfriend, who was about 80 at the time, used to pan the Fraser, the Quesnel, and up towards Barkerville. Hiked all over, always came back with gold. He had old tobacco cans with 1/2 inch of flour gold in them. Heavy! Don’t know if he ever sold any, or what happened to them when he passed.

It's funny that everybody is always diggin behind rocks. Jeff Williams has a flowmodel of a river and Gold also drops out in front of rocks, maybe even more. You also know the Dutch had a 300+ meters model of the Rotterdam new waterway for testing in the 60's? You can still visit it as a ruin. Even kingfishers there.

    • @Danhurd
      @Danhurd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes I talk about this in many videos, you can often find the bigger pieces in front of the rocks in small numbers, and the smaller behind the rocks in large numbers. But that is only a generalization, anything can happen.

    Hi Dan
It's been awhile since I've made any commitments on your video's
You make me so jealous 😂
I'm really loving watching you explore the same area's I grew up prospecting, hate to say it but that was 50 years ago 😢
I'm over on the Similkameen River at the Similkameen falls and I know you have worked this river a lot and was hoping you might have a suggestion on where you had the the best luck
I have 10 cells to explore with massive amounts of bed rock lots and lots of gravel bars
The only thing is I've only found a little bit of fly poop in 2 weeks
I won't have an excavator till sometime next summer and really believe there is gold here
This claim hasn't been touched in at least 15 years
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Love your videos and recommend them to anyone who asks about prospecting
