I’ve heard Jeff Jarrett Tell that Bash at the Beach story quite differently. He said that lay down and take the pin gimmick was out of frustration that Hogan had so much pull in the company to say who and when he’d drop the belt. That’s why after that Russo came out talking about Hogans power behind the scenes. I think in this case JJ even said this wasn’t even Russo’s fault it was all Hogan and his ego.
I heard the same thing but it doesn't really matter which is true. Honestly it's probably a little of both.
