The older I get the more I love and appriciate Adult Swim and Toonami. They gave us experimental, they gave us scary, they gave us weird and fuckdd up, they gave us anime, they gave us visual drugs, they really did the most and let creators have fun. It was an honor to grow up with them.
As a Boston resident, I'm gonna chime in on the 2007 bomb scare situation because this video is honestly the best video I've seen about it. only the cops and boomers took it seriously, like everyone under the age of 50 knew it wasn't serious. I was in middle school at the time and if you knew what Aqua Teen Hunger Force was, you were laughing your ass off to the local news channel that day. The lost episode is is also fucking hilarious, 10/10.
As a Stoner who was often awake at the 4am block, a lot of these really messed with me. I remember the first time I saw the remixed slapchop commercial, my friend and I could not believe what was happening. We laughed so hard that we missed a good amount of the show that came on afterwards.
I really wish, out of all the shows, they'd bring back Moral Orel. Maybe it was a bit too much at the time, but in current year, on current [AS]? It would be perfect! And there's so, so much good music to discover in Season 3 specifically, along with it being the most important season (although you'll get less from it if you only watch Season 3 without 1 or 2).
tbh with you i enjoyed that show but i personally miss metalocalypse a bit more, just recently found it through the website streams adult swim has running and forgot how funny i found it at times, not to mention the music that i used to not be a huge fan of back then is a total bop for me now.
Moral Orel was really ahead of it's time and we just weren't ready for it. If anything the satire of it is even more relevant and funnier now than it was when it aired.
Adult Swim is the only cable channel that is run like an internet community. They nailed how to manage a TH-cam fanbase years before TH-camrs figured it out. It's the same vibe right down to the playful antagonism that all TH-cam channels with good fanbases and creative engagement have.
Random story, but the night adult swim first premiered I didn’t think my mom would let me watch it. When I told her about it she said she didn’t care. I watched almost every new show that premiered that night, and the next day a bunch of the other kids in my class talked about it I remember being so glad I didn’t miss out on it after that. I grew up in the 90s so adult cartoons weren’t new, but seeing an entire block of them for the first time was something else, especially on Cartoon Network

Growing up in the 90s and 2000s, I’ve loved Space Ghost Coast to Coast since I was a kid and it’s still my favorite show to this day. That show was a pioneer for adult animation in the 90s as it helped launch what became Adult Swim before Adult Swim existed and to this day still has a cult following.

Wish you would of brought up the Danger Doom album, a hip-hop tribute of sorts to adult swim featuring Space Ghost and AQHF characters voiced by the actual actors on the show, as well as references to other shows. Also, on the song where he argues with Space Ghost about how he deserves a show more than him, when he is talking to Brak he actually asks Brak if he "has enough oxygen for this toxic flem". I swear, they aired Saved by the Bell for longer than two weeks. They easily must've aired for a few months, because the episodes just kept airing and airing. They also aired PeeWee's Playhouse for what felt like a few years in 2006-2008. I honestly love that period; there was so much weird shit airing.

One of my biggest regrets when it comes to Adult Swim is not saving my DVR recording of the "Aqua teen Movie premier" when Adult Swim showed it in the corner. Mostly because there was a hilarious moment that synced up perfectly and nobody else seems to remember it. During the "Drunken Irish Dad" song from Family Guy that aired that night, a human male character (I believe he was black) popped up on screen and began dancing in time with the song. If I remember correctly, it was during the line "We Irish lads are all infirm and our moods infect us like a germ!" It was so damn funny and to this day I have no idea if it was intentional or it just worked out that way. If anyone has footage of this, I'd love to see it again. If for nothing more than to prove to myself I didn't dream this.

Well to me Somewhere 2000's in old shows they never put Toonami Saturday night until [adult swim] anime without Toonami Tom. By til then Toonami becoming [adult swim] in 2012 now those are true Saturday nights in [adult swim] not Cartoon Network Saturday night.

I’ve heard people say that Boston’s response to the Mooninite signs was purely for political spectacle. Elections were coming up and at the time it was popular to appear as tough on terrorism cause it was Bush era xenophobia peak season. There were already signs like that up for up to 2 weeks in other cities. I’ve heard many people say that the Boston gouvernement wanted to appear strong and responsive to voters so even though they knew it most likely was completely nothing, they went out of their way to try to make it something. Definitely on brand for America at the time.

There has only ever been one bumper to scare me. It's a little girl running down what seems to be a school/hospital hallway. She suddenly stops to look at a figure that I cant remember what they looked like but the girl was just staring, then it just cuts to the girl in a bathroom, shes looking in a mirror painting on her face what seems to be blood but in a very barbwirey jesus way around her head and chanting/singing an omnius creepy song. It cuts and its over. It's the only bumper I cant find.

The best way I can describe the life cycle of adult swim is, it was a group of animators who gathered and all had sick and twisted minds due to constant psycadelic abuse and created some of the best late night programming in history. Nowadays, it’s a bunch of wannabe’s who’ve done a handful of psycadelics in their life and are just trying to copy what they’ve seen from the og people in charge of things. Iykyk. There’s an authenticity in the early AS stuff that’ll make you sit and question if you’re still tripping or not. Modern AS just tries too hard and it’s more cringe than mind bending
Still in the middle of watching and got to "was Regular Show an AS pitch?" and I distinctly remember hearing Rigby say "Benson's gonna be PISSED!" in the first episode (later changed to "ticked") and my brother and I being like "oh shit, they just said "pissed" in a CN show!"
I was so confused when I first saw, Too Many Cooks. I thought it was a new show until I saw it was nothing but a bunch of, what looked like, sitcom intros… until all the carnage… I was not expecting that! It was weird, but awesome. Btw, no one ever mentions the anime, Trigun! That was one of the best animes. Vash the stampede, Meryl and Milly, the insurance agents, Wolfwood, the priest with the gun that looks like a cross… so awesome.

The night they ran the rick and morty season premiere I was hanging out with friends at the local coffee shop, all getting kinda bored, trying to find something to do. I pulled out my phone, decided to checkout the [as] app, and realized what was on. I told them, turned it off and we all went to the dollar general, bought snacks, and then watched the next airing of the premiere out in the parking lot of my phone.
Honestly, a bunch of friends chilling in a parking lot watching the Rick and Morty season premiere sounds like an awesome night. Hopefully, you all had a great time!

At the time, I was too young to stay up late and watch all my favorite adult swim shows, so I learned how to program my VCR to record all my favorite TV shows so that I could watch them after I got home from school the next day. I remember the day I watched the previous night's recording of my favorite adult swim shows and was perplexed as to why these strange mustaches were being drawn on all of the characters in the shows (sometimes the characters also got accompanying glasses too). Little did I know that I was watching adult swim's first ever April Fools joke. I am honored to have experienced it.

Growing up in the 90s and 2000s, I’ve loved Space Ghost Coast to Coast since I was a kid and it’s still my favorite show to this day. That show was a pioneer for adult animation in the 90s as it helped launch what became Adult Swim before Adult Swim existed and to this day still has a cult following.

I swear, they aired Saved by the Bell for longer than two weeks. They easily must've aired for a few months, because the episodes just kept airing and airing. They also aired PeeWee's Playhouse for what felt like a few years in 2006-2008. I honestly love that period; there was so much weird shit airing.
To be fair, the Adult Swim wiki could have totally lied to me. Maybe Saved by the Bell aired for longer than two weeks. Omg I remember when PeeWee's Playhouse used to air on the network. Adult Swim between 2005 and 2010 was so strange, yet super enjoyable to watch.

My dude I grew up with Sailor Moon, DBZ, and Ruroni Kenshin on Toonami. Then when I was a bit older Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, Paranoia Agent on Adult Swim.
I cherish these memories of staying up extremely late playing PS2 to catch new episodes during the summer.
I remember when adult swim first launched. I’ve actually been thinking about all of the weird shorts and little side sketches in cartoons that used to come on and I for the life of me can never remember any of the names so I’m really happy this video exists now
Likewise. I used to watch O Canada and The Bob Clampett Show on Sunday nights on CN before Adult Swim premiered. Most things are at their best in the very beginning because they're new experiences for the person enjoying them.
One of my biggest regrets when it comes to Adult Swim is not saving my DVR recording of the "Aqua teen Movie premier" when Adult Swim showed it in the corner. Mostly because there was a hilarious moment that synced up perfectly and nobody else seems to remember it. During the "Drunken Irish Dad" song from Family Guy that aired that night, a human male character (I believe he was black) popped up on screen and began dancing in time with the song. If I remember correctly, it was during the line "We Irish lads are all infirm and our moods infect us like a germ!" It was so damn funny and to this day I have no idea if it was intentional or it just worked out that way.
If anyone has footage of this, I'd love to see it again. If for nothing more than to prove to myself I didn't dream this.

I’ve heard people say that Boston’s response to the Mooninite signs was purely for political spectacle. Elections were coming up and at the time it was popular to appear as tough on terrorism cause it was Bush era xenophobia peak season. There were already signs like that up for up to 2 weeks in other cities. I’ve heard many people say that the Boston gouvernement wanted to appear strong and responsive to voters so even though they knew it most likely was completely nothing, they went out of their way to try to make it something. Definitely on brand for America at the time.

There has only ever been one bumper to scare me. It's a little girl running down what seems to be a school/hospital hallway. She suddenly stops to look at a figure that I cant remember what they looked like but the girl was just staring, then it just cuts to the girl in a bathroom, shes looking in a mirror painting on her face what seems to be blood but in a very barbwirey jesus way around her head and chanting/singing an omnius creepy song. It cuts and its over.

I remember discovering FLCL watching Adult Swim late night on a trip to one of the Cayes in my country of Belize since we use to get a lot of American TV and I fell in love with the show and later rediscovered Toonami... early this year from an anime guy in my country I found an old FlCL manga from 2003 and bought it when he advertise it...still one of my top favorite and impactful animes of all time

I was conflicted on whether to put those entries in layer 1 or layer 4. Then I decided to shove them towards the bottom because I didn't want to just summarize those videos since so many people have seen them. Instead, I wanted to spend more time discussing the theories and interpretations behind those shorts that fans have created. Again, it was a conflicting decision haha. The best way I can describe the life cycle of adult swim is, it was a group of animators who gathered and all had sick and twisted minds due to constant psycadelic abuse and created some of the best late night programming in history. Nowadays, it’s a bunch of wannabe’s who’ve done a handful of psycadelics in their life and are just trying to copy what they’ve seen from the og people in charge of things. Iykyk. There’s an authenticity in the early AS stuff that’ll make you sit and question if you’re still tripping or not. Modern AS just tries too hard and it’s more cringe than mind bending

I pulled out my phone, decided to checkout the [as] app, and realized what was on. I told them, turned it off and we all went to the dollar general, bought snacks, and then watched the next airing of the premiere out in the parking lot of my phone.
Honestly, a bunch of friends chilling in a parking lot watching the Rick and Morty season premiere sounds like an awesome night. Hopefully, you all had a great time!

At the time, I was too young to stay up late and watch all my favorite adult swim shows, so I learned how to program my VCR to record all my favorite TV shows so that I could watch them after I got home from school the next day. I remember the day I watched the previous night's recording of my favorite adult swim shows and was perplexed as to why these strange mustaches were being drawn on all of the characters in the shows (sometimes the characters also got accompanying glasses too). Little did I know that I was watching adult swim's first ever April Fools joke. I am honored to have experienced it.
