The rhythmic language of Luizão Maia - Class 1 - (Eduardo Brasil)

A Linguagem Rítmica de Luizão Maia is a series of three classes where I talk about peculiar and recurrent rhythmic ideas in the groove of one of the most influential bass players in Brazilian music.
After transcribing and analyzing some songs recorded by Luizão, I created these classes to help music students who want to delve deeper into the rhythmic language of samba conduction. In the classes, I approach excerpts from the levadas, explaining the context in which they are inserted, highlighting some rhythms so that the student can use them in the development of exercises in order to enrich their bass lines.
This series is intended to make a small cut on Luizão Maia's samba tracks. We do not intend to exhaust the subject of Luizão Maia's levadas, but to open the way for a discussion and studies about samba and the masters of the double bass.

Eduardo Brasil has been a professional musician for over 20 years, graduated from the Tatuí Conservatory and Master in Music from UFMG.
