Man I wish there was a high quality version of this "beat it" performance. What strikes me here is the energy and the high pitched voice (maybe due to quality)... him singing in this high key is rare during his later tours. And of course Eddie Van Halen, priceless... and the choreography is much different than in the later tours. HIStory's "beat it" cannot be compared to Victory, Bad and even Dangerous. 5+
How can you say OLD??? It is one of the greatest songs ever made!!! by maybe the greatest singer of all times!!! the 80's were the music greatest era!!
Eddie is an amazing guitarist. Apparently he done the solo for this song in one take. He seemed to completely lose his timing for a moment in this tho. I think Michael put him off when he said "Eddie you got it Eddie". His great improvisation and technique spared him blushes in the end.
@gilbet Mj composed the track at home, listen to his demos, all Eddie did was add a solo. Again and again, Mj demo proves it, he brought it to Quincy and Quincy showed Eddie once the track was done. Mj was an amazing composer, and did grow up listening to Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, and other rock n roll kings. He said so himself he listened to them, i am sure he had a rock side of him too, since he himself did play Guitar, Piano and drums and used it to compose his tracks
It hurts me that I never really got to see MJ in his prime. I was born in '95 and I saw the negative media attention in the last 14 yrs. But I love him, and I know the media was all wrong about him.
Unbelieveable performance! This is a piece of history captured. May not be the best quality due to the era, but extremely rare. The King of Pop with the EVH the guitar guide.
eddie vanhalen and michael work well together. i think that the solo compliments the awsome singing of michael. i wish i could have seen the pair in action on stage. thanks for posting such a rare video.
Hey... I was NOT that bad. Thats the first and only time that I played with that very talented musical family. We did not rehearse or anything. I was on tour at the time and I got a call from Michael and he wanted me to join them. I was honored and glad that I did the show. Michael was a genius and he is a legend. Bigger than Elvis. I'm glad I got to perform with him. He will be missed dearly. I just wish I got to know him better outside of music. Rest in Peace Michael. GOD Blesss!
Ed Anderson (VH's director of security) stated that someone messed with the tuning of Ed's guitar before he went on and that's why he's off a little...but still had the skill to pull of the song on the fly.
little known fact: Eddie contributed his music for absolutely no royalties from Beat It, and still to this day it remains the same. ROCK ON EDDIE, RIP MJ.
Unbelievable that this is the best quality video that exists of this historic performance...This wasn't filmed with a home video camera...someone out there MUST have a better quality copy of this...
if this video was a baseball card how much would a video like this be worth. I mean MJ in his prime a live performance with Eddie at his prime. Wow what a gem of a find!
omg this is awesome. i have seen a shorter clip of just the actually song solo but not the whole things b4 and even tho the quality is poor and the sound i had to really crankup i think this is an awesome video 5* -thanx. I love EVH and MJ :D
you do know there's more than just eddie playing the guitar besides it fit pretty good with the song why not fit his beast ass guitar shredding in with the progression!!!!!!!
the thing about Eddie is that his playing is VERY distinct. He has that feel. You can flip through the radio and instantly know when it is a VH solol. And I think that makes a great guitar player where ONLY YOU can play ur stuff otherwise it just sounds fake. He had great feel.
hay dios mio yo no savia que el poderosisimo eddie van halen tocavan la de beat it con razon me gusta esa rola los dos grandes musicos juntos que padre los recordaremos besos
deadly!!! One KING and One Guitar GOD on One stage!! WOW!!
man.......i so wish to have seen this concert. imagine! eddie and mike on the same stage! things like that dont happen these days anymore.........
The quality may not be great, BUT this is history right here!!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have loved to be there... but I was 6 years old.
Great version!!!!!
Legend of the rock with the Legend of the pop what an iconic song!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"You got it Eddie.. Eddie, Eddie !"
I love that !
still looks like a great performance even this quality
thank you for this post. You have preserved, an era in his tragically short life.
Have a lot of memories of the song. It came out when I was five, and remember hearing it on the radio. I always thought it was cool.

Yes! This performance is on fire!
2 of the greatest legends on stage at the same time!!
Damn that solo was amazing!!

How can you say OLD??? It is one of the greatest songs ever made!!! by maybe the greatest singer of all times!!! the 80's were the music greatest era!!

Wow I never thought of that. That would have been cool if EVH was at the memorial.
R.I.P Eddie Van Halen!
This song... just screams epic. One of the gods of metal and the King of Pop. Please, I'm about to cry from the sheer epicness.
Does anyone have a better version of this performance? I LOVEEE MJ during these years...
Who knew at that time how much this performance would go down as one of the best in history!
Classic!!And to think Eddie played this solo on MJ's album for free, thus intensifying the feud between him & DLR.
Eddie is an amazing guitarist. Apparently he done the solo for this song in one take.
He seemed to completely lose his timing for a moment in this tho. I think Michael put him off when he said "Eddie you got it Eddie". His great improvisation and technique spared him blushes in the end.
michael was getting into the music
2:43-3:26

WOW!!! Michael Jackson and Eddie Van Halen on stage together? Absolutely incredible!!!!
the quality of this song is so good, i might cry

Eddie Van Halen and the Jackson 5. I am glad I lived to see these guys in their prime.
a great song + a great solo = fantastic music....
It hurts me that I never really got to see MJ in his prime. I was born in '95 and I saw the negative media attention in the last 14 yrs. But I love him, and I know the media was all wrong about him.
