Yeah the metal was rough and uneven, brush painting thick clumpy black paint over it just exaggerated its roughness. He could’ve got a much more even finish had he completely dismantled it and used a spray gun. Wrong choice of paint for the wood too, looks like a gloss. I don’t see how using a heat gun to burn small circles into the wooden seat makes it look “aged” either lol.
@Moms B trippin man top notch attention to me would look like this: disassemble it into single individual pieces, removing rust and other top layer ugliness, deep cleaning the individual pieces with multiple steps, renewing only what absolutely needed renewal, applying protection coat to the metal pieces, applying similar colors to the wooden elements, and assembling the parts back into the original model Just my opinion
By painting it, you hide that the wood is truly old. Someone could say it's all new wood and just a copy of an old sled. I don't know. I wasn't impressed with the final product. The metalwork should have been painted white imo.
Nice. It would have been nicer if the side details would have been painted in white and the frame remaining red as it is, the seat and the entire front just in the middle part (under it too) in white too. Still, nice work! :)

I don't know anything about restoration but I would have thought you would have spray painted all of the red first even if it got onto the black area. And then you could still paint the black areas over top of the red. Yes I realize one is wood and one is metal. But couldn't you have taped over the metal areas to protect them from red paint and then spray painted the entire thing red? And then added the black paint?

I am a contractor, I restore historical wood structures, as well as build new housing. He is going for a rustic look which is fine, I assume he is under direction to make it look a certain way for what ever they are filming. However he should have used a shellac based primer on the wood before painting. Other than that, for what it was intended to be used for it looks good.

Agree. There's no increase in value of the sled. Someone else said "sloppy", which I thunk sums it up well.
