To vote, add your thoughts to ONE of the 5 comments below that best describes how you feel about the newer, 1941 version of Axis & Allies and give a thumbs up to only THAT comment. A 5 Star means you love everything about it. A 3 means they're about even, and a 1 means you much prefer the original edition of the game.
Classic A&A will always give me nostalgia. I like the look of the old sculpts (especially how sturdy they are compared to the newer ones, i.e. the submarines), but I also really like the unique designs for each nation in the newer A&A games. The Classic board is beautiful, but the boards in the newer A&A games feel like they give you more options.
@@zacharyclark3693 I think I have to join Zachary on this thought. Hardcore nostalgia for that original version. Well... the original Milton Bradley version, as there was also a 1981 Nova version that predates the MB 1984 version. ;-)
Foe me which one would I rather PLAY is generally Original, however the caveat being that if I where introducing some one to this genera then it would be '41 which is titles in my mind as "My 1st Axis and Allies or Axis and Allies Jr." as it is striped down to make for a simpler game. '41's lack of money, battle strip, and carboard chip are just cost cutting measures which though I do not care for, does make it easier to purchase this game as a trainer game then if it had them and then was say even 25% more expensive, probably more. Though paper money as lost it's desirability once I made my own poker chips (before Renegade) and am moving onto 3d printed "Industrial Production Chits" a ingot style token.
I'll preface this that I'm coming from a nostalgia bias for the old version, which I think was high quality for the time. The newer 1941 version (which is not the only other version of A&A out) probably has better quality, but is still pretty cheap by today's standards. The rules for the 1941 version, as I recall, are a bit different, having incorporated more of the expansions that came after the original was released. All that being said I have a work colleague who never had any experience with the old version and loves the new 1941 version. So once again, I'm probably speaking with a bias, but to be hones today, I'm not really captivated by either version as I think I've moved on to other types of war game mechanics. But, the 40th anniversary edition out now has piqued my interest.
I know rules were changed and made better but give me the original every time. From the coffin box to the much better plastic. The styrofoam inserts were great to give to each player. Tech action was kinda lame in how you attempted it but was still fun to get. I also prefer the colors of the original. The cardboard chits are lame compared to the original plastic chips. Lastly give me the cash ( yeah even paper money ) over a track It just felt great to save up a stack of cash to buy like crazy in a round. And just the tactile feel of the money over a track.
