I feel the RRP is fine when you look at the competition, plus I payed £560 the year in May...... Well..... Another £80 for a strap code bracelet but I absolutely love my 'ghost' alpinist❤️
I keep returning to this video. This watch has a certain charm in spite of viewers calling it a "ladies' watch." I keep thinking it's nice to have one smallish watch in the collection. This one ticks all the boxes if you'll forgive my cliche.
I agree with Rob and others who say this looks like a great one-watch or a Daily, but I would recommend for people with wrists in the 6.5-inch ballpark.
Beautiful. It's my favorite one. But, my eyesight is not so good and the dial seems barely legible. Could you confirm if there is difficulty in viewing in low light?
I have the cream/black leather strap version and I absolutely adore it. All versions of the 2020 Alpinist look fantastic👌 The Cyclops is barely noticeable, the black print is subtle and not as 'in your face' than on the black dial. As soon as I can get a signed crown I may upgrade, I did fit a strap code super oyster bracelet which completely changes the look for the better. I have a trick to get the bezel to lign up perfectly too if anyone is interested.
yes, and quite bad ones as i managed to bend one very easy. had to be very careful when i push them back when i sized the bracelet. i would take pin and collar any time
Question from a relative newbie: When you say these are "trading for around 550," what does that mean? Are you talking about used ones or the gray market? I'm just wondering where would be the smartest place to look for watches like this. Thanks
I like the last one, can get it new for 500€ shall I get it? Can this watch increase in value or at least not be sold for less than half the price when I will sell it in second hand?
Need to get the bracelet on my Seiko diver sized. Is it "safe" to take a pin and collar bracelet to a typical mall establishment to get this done? Will they know what they are doing?
Definitely can be hit and miss. I would suggest learning how to do it yourself. Once you have a technique it's extremely easy and cost-effective. Otherwise, I would recommend taking it to a jeweller that actually knows what they're doing. Unfortunately I learnt this the hard way with my first Seiko diver and vowed never again. Good luck 🍀
Marc from long Island watches has a tutorial vid on his channel, vid is 'watch and learn'. The vid carries a great detail on how to do it. It may be quite useful to have a look on that one.
@@ralphus555 No worries, TH-cam is a sensational resource. Plenty of good videos, including Marc's. DIY was the best decision I made. Having done over 15 P&C bracelets without damage or failure, it's very simple once you've got a system you're comfortable with.
The best part of the 017 was the green dial. It is still a cool understated watch, but without the green dial and the added price jump it is a pass for me.
Mines running +5 a day consistently. My previous generation Alpinist was all over the place one day it would be +18 and another day it would be -5. I like this watch much better in every aspect
Compared to what? I feel the price is about right for what you get and considering Seiko has been super generous with their watches any price rise seems unjustified but really its cool. I picked up mine in May this year from a certified retail store for £560, what else can you get for that price with a cream dial? and don't say Hamilton...... Not a cream dial🤣
A local online retailer has one, I thought I'd look at a review before purchase. When I saw that the N was in centre, but the W E and S are way off. Thats a big pass from me.I was looking forward to this also. But not if they can't even align a compass Fk em. Seiko may have aligned your chapter ring on your diver at 12, but they have never ever ever aligned the 4 or 5 . (Seriously look at turtles at 5 not 12)...... Cheers!!
😂 ladies watch????!!! My grandfather who was in the army during WW2 was a watch collector & never wore anything bigger than a 38mm watch. Meanwhile, keyboard warriors of today with their 6.5 inch wrist really out here wearing 44mm watches & think they’re manlier than men who wore smaller watches but faced death daily for work. 😂
This would be my one watch collection... One day for sure...
I understand the hate for the cyclops, but as you get older you grow an appreciation for it. Wish my discontinued version had one.
I love the cyclops!!
Yep 😁
Could you imagine this watch with a high-end Seiko movement? Throw in some GS quality and this would be the best watch in the Seiko collection.
+1
You could say that about almost any watch Seiko makes. Their high end SLA watches never disappoint...unless you can't afford it
An Alpinist + Spring Drive with a really cool dial like the Lake Suwa and thats a dream
Grand Seiko has a plenty great watches
@@shogiforalltv6372 But, not an Alpinist with a GS movement with quality construction and finishing.
No doubt this is a good looking watch! Affordable and has some Character

Great watch, such a great size. Wish it had half links though, only complaint

Don’t do it. You will not keep it
@@RandomRobReviews you just saved me 700 dollars

I disagree, I'm a slim guy with a 7.5 wrist and the 39mm looks absolutly perfect, on a 6.5 it may look a little big IMO
@@M82RKY Good to know. Such a great looking watch for everyday wear.
Old video, but this or the Hamilton Khaki Field?
I have the champagne that I bought at a good price from Sakura watches in Japan. If the cyclops turns you off, it will definitely grow on you.
I agree, especially in the cream dial which I have, that being said the cyclops can be removed.
Beautiful. It's my favorite one. But, my eyesight is not so good and the dial seems barely legible. Could you confirm if there is difficulty in viewing in low light?
No issues with legibility. It’s my favorite watch.
I got one. I just wish it had a signed crown and no display case back. Damn nice watch. Poor mans Explorer.

Lovely watches, the green alpanist is definitely the fan favourite though!
I had the OG green at one time.
Had the green won’t go back to it to many ocd things with it for me
I have this watch and it's actually standard pins and not pin and collar.

Yes. Used and or new or grey market. Trending around 550 is me saying expect to pay about 550 for this model.
Awesome, thanks!
I dont know if i should get this or the spb169j1 green dial.. price different is only $140
Price is high for now. Does have a classic look that would work anywhere, anytime. Nice review.
I like the last one, can get it new for 500€ shall I get it? Can this watch increase in value or at least not be sold for less than half the price when I will sell it in second hand?
Hi Rob! Can you also make a video about the SARB013 aka the Unicorn Alpinist?
The clasp just needs better fine adjustment and it would be perfect. I have the same one on my Presage and it's the only drawback.

Oh and be careful guys, there are a lot of Chinese Alpinist clones floating around on eBay and the like
Nice watch
Could you wear this as a dress watch?

Why did seiko drop the alpinist branding?
No idea man. Seiko can be weird asf sometimes
How accurate? That retail price seems high.

I've never been a fan of The alpinist. Not sure why maybe it has to do with the smaller size.
At 39mm? Hardly a small watch uess you have 8"wrists

Im not a fan of the cyclops though. But love it otherwise
Removable and you get to live with it, barely notice it especially in the cream dial.
One of the least legible watches I've ever tried. Wanna love it but I can't because of exactly that.
Almost love it, just wish there was no cyclops.
Just torch it for a few seconds and it will come off.

well done. your special.....
Hahaha its a girls watch.
