  • (Scroll down for English) Indrukwekkende beelden van Operation Anger.
Impressive footage of Operation Anger. Operation Quick Anger was a military operation to seize the city of Arnhem in April 1945, during the closing stages of the Second World War. It is occasionally referred to as the Second Battle of Arnhem or the Liberation of Arnhem. The operation began on 12 April 1945 and proceeded to plan, as the three infantry brigades of the 49th Division leapfrogged each other through the city. Within four days Arnhem was totally under Allied control, allowing the Canadians to advance further into the Netherlands.

The pictures at 0:35 looks to be Nijmegen, with the destroyed Waal River railroad bridge in the back ground. At 1:16 is the village Westervoort, a few km south east of Arnhem situated on the east bank of the IJssel River. A railroad dike is seen at the right, leading to the IJssel Bridge further ahead, being part of the railroad line from the German border to Arnhem. If Operation Market Garden had been successful it would became the task of the 1st Polish Airborne Brigade to capture Westervoort and the bridges there to take the final major river crossing between Arnhem and the German border. The comment at 1:17 is incorrect, British soldiers didn't reached Westervoort in 1944, no fights took place there during Market Garden. At 2:38 troops of the British 49th West Riding (Polar Bear) division at the Utrechtsestraat (further ahead being named the Utrechtseweg) The smoke explosions marks the spot (as a kind of meeting point) nearby the Gemeente Museum, the farthest point British airborne troops came from the opposite direction in the early morning of September 19th, 1944 during their last desperate attempt to reinforce John Frost's unit at the Rhine bridge.

Interesting to see the two different helmet designs used by the British Army towards the end of the war.
Six years later the Glorious Glousters would stand-up to 10000 Chinese infantry with only 650 men.
